Chapter 235 - Spoils

Chapter 235 Spoils

Following Rebel's directions, Aleshia pulled out the fur, claws, and gem from the Kobold that Ren had stored in the bag. As she looked for a place to lay out her items, Rebel noticed her struggle and asked Daniel to clear a space on the table. Although he did so reluctantly, given the number of papers he had to move, he complied. Once the table was clear, Aleshia placed the harvested materials there and then retrieved the fangs and body, adding them to the pile.

Rebel and Daniel examined the items closely, whispering to each other as they did. After what felt like a thorough examination, they announced their findings. Rebel spoke first, offering praise. "Whoever did this harvesting did a good job avoiding any nicks to the skin or the pelt. However, I do have some questions about how it got charred. Aleshia, I heard you cast some magic on me—could you have accidentally burned the pelt?" Rebel asked, stroking the burnt edges.

Aleshia immediately provided a pre-prepared explanation. "A mysterious force caused an event to occur around us. We were shielded and obscured by whatever defeated them. We took the spoils. To be clear, no one was hurt, and there was no one else present when we discovered the bodies."

"Alright then, I'm not sure what's changed in that area. Do you know of anything like this having happened there, Daniel?" Rebel asked.

"I haven't explored that area much lately, and no, I haven't heard any rumors similar to what she described," Daniel said, looking puzzled.

Before they delved too deeply into the rabbit hole, they changed the subject to something more rewarding. "I assume you also gathered some horned rabbits in that bag. They are rather small, but they should provide us with some good meat, depending on whether we sell all of it to the guild or just the inedible parts." Daniel said, eagerly awaiting a response.

Aleshia provided them with the horned rabbits they had requested, and even she was surprised by how much Ren had caught now on the desk. In total, there were three rabbits and a small kobold lying before them.

After an initial assessment, Rebel commended, "This all looks pretty good and well caught. There's no doubt these will fetch a good price at the guild. However, they might question where we got the Kobolds. Given our situation, they might chalk it up to slum business." She lamented regretfully.

"Now that the verification is taken care of for the moment, I believe we can set off for the Adventurers Guild in about an hour. You are all excused while I deal with some paperwork," Daniel bid them farewell and returned to his desk to file paperwork, quietly urging the rest to leave the room.
