Chapter 36 - Max returned.

The film's early scenes were intimate, a couple kissing passionately in a luxury hotel room. Julia blushed, stealing glances at Max. His eyes remained fixed on the screen, but his grip on her hand tightened. The romantic atmosphere intensified their connection.

All these made Julia's heart race as she clutched Max's hand, her palms sweating profusely. She couldn't bear to let go, embarrassed by her own reaction to the romantic movie. The dimly lit theater seemed to close in on her, the passionate scenes on screen making her face flush with excitement. Max, too, was taken aback by the explicit content, regretting his decision to bring Julia to the cinema. He had hoped for a lighthearted evening, but instead, the movie was testing his restraint. As they watched, Julia's anxiety grew, her grip on Max's hand tightening. She tried to distract herself with popcorn and drinks, but her eyes kept drifting back to the screen. Max, sensing her discomfort, whispered reassurances in her ear, his warm breath sending shivers down her spine. Despite their mutual unease, they couldn't help but be drawn to each other, their hands entwined as they navigated the movie's intimate moments. As the credits rolled, Julia's face still burned with embarrassment, but she couldn't deny the spark that had ignited between her and Max. The movie may have been torture, but it brought them closer together.

As the credits rolled, they stepped out into the night, still hand in hand. Julia's happiness warred with anxiety. William's threat loomed, and she wondered how it would impact their lives. For a company like Darius Group, lawsuits against any company employee could spell disaster.

Max, ever the optimist, leaned down and kissed Julia's forehead. "No matter what happens," he said, "we'll face it together."

Max wasn't a wealthy man, and his surname Wellington was quite common. Julia's anxiety grew as she thought about the recent encounter with William. "How could Max have known that William was trouble?" she wondered. Max seemed unfazed, taking her to the cinema and buying popcorn and drinks as if nothing had happened. Julia's worries persisted, "What if William sues Max? What if he goes to jail?"

Just then, Max noticed the worry etched on Julia's face and reassured her, "You don't have to worry Julia, we didn't break the law. I stood up for my wife, who was being harassed, and that's self-defense." Julia remained concerned, knowing that William's twin sister was a lawyer. Max tried to calm her down, "I have lawyer friends too. Let's enjoy our movie and not let others ruin our moment." Julia nodded, but her mind raced with thoughts of resolving the conflict to protect Max's future. As they watched the romance movie, Julia felt their relationship deepening. Max held her hand, as she felt a rush of excitement. She thought of the movie's passionate scenes, and it made her face flush, but Max remained calm, holding her hand tightly. Julia's love for Max grew, but her anxiety about William lingered, threatening their happiness.

Julia's anxiety persisted. " And then she said softly," It's not that simple," she murmured. "We're not legal experts like they are. Willow, his twin sister, is a lawyer. If he goes for a medical examination and starts a lawsuit, we'll be in trouble."

Max's mood remained surprisingly upbeat. "Trust me," he said. "I'd love to file a lawsuit against him for sexual harassment as well. Besides, I have lawyer friends too. Then again, today is our first movie date. Let's not let anyone ruin it."

As they emerged from the cinema, Julia's eyes locked onto the police officers approaching her and Max, their faces stern and unyielding. "Mr Wellington, you're under arrest for bullying, bodily harm, and threat to life," one of them announced, their voice firm and authoritative.

"This is absurd!" Julia exclaimed, her voice trembling with anxiety. "It was William who had attacked me unprovoked, not my husband!"

The officer's gaze remained unyielding. "Ma'am, we have evidence. The victim's injuries were severe, and the surveillance footage clearly shows your husband's involvement."

Julia's eyes flashed with indignation. "Evidence can be misleading! My husband was simply defending me from William's harassment."

Max's calm demeanor was a stark contrast to Julia's distress. "Julia, don't worry, I'll sort this out. Go home, and I'll be back soon."

Julia's eyes pleaded with him to reconsider, but Max's expression remained resolute. "This is a farce, Max! You can't just let them take you away like this!"

The officer's voice intervened, "Ma'am, please step back. We need to take Mr. Wellington in for questioning."

As Julia watched, helpless and distraught, the officers led Max away, the sound of handcuffs clicking into place echoing through the air.

"This can't be happening," she whispered to herself, her mind reeling with the implications. "Max, don't go! Please don't let them take you away, she wailed!"

But her words were lost in the chaos, as the police car drove away, leaving Julia alone and frightened, with only her thoughts to keep her company.

As she stood there, frozen in shock, Julia's thoughts raced back to the events that had led to that moment. William's sinister grin, his taunting words, and Max's valiant defense of her honor, it all seemed like a distant memory now. But the consequences of that fateful encounter were all too real. Julia's heart was heavy with worry, she wondered what the future held for William, for their relationship, and for the truth that seemed to be distorted beyond recognition.

The police car's sirens faded into the distance, leaving a stunned Julia standing on the sidewalk. Panic surged through her veins as she fumbled for her phone and quickly dialed Samantha's number, the one person she knew who could help.

"Samantha, it's urgent," Julia said, her voice trembling. "Max has been taken away by the police."

Samantha's initial reaction was disbelief. "Julia, what are you talking about? There's no way Max could be arrested."

"It's true, Samantha. Max got into a fight with William, and now William's claiming serious injury. They're saying William might go to jail. Do you know any good lawyers?"

Samantha's anger flared at the mention of William. "That William is a despicable villain. He provoked Max until he snapped. Max knocked out one of his teeth, and now William's playing the victim. But don't worry, Julia. I'll make some calls. We'll get Max out of this mess."

"Thank you, Samantha," Julia said, her voice barely above a whisper. "I don't know what I'd do without you."

Julia couldn't sit still when she got home. She paced the living room, clutching her phone like a lifeline. The waiting was unbearable. Finally, she called Samantha again.

"Samantha, do you know anyone at the police station?" Julia asked, her voice tinged with desperation.

"Julia, calm down," Samantha replied, trying to soothe her friend's nerves. "I know you're worried, but trust me, everything will be fine. Let me make a few calls and see what I can find out."

"Okay," Julia said, her voice small. "Please hurry."

Samantha hung up and immediately began dialing numbers, her mind racing. She knew that Julia had no idea about Max's true identity, and if she did, she'd realize there was nothing to worry about. But for now, Samantha needed to get to the bottom of this.

Julia's restlessness finally got the better of her. She grabbed her keys and drove to the police station, her heart pounding in her chest. Even if she couldn't do anything, she needed to be there.

Inside the station, the atmosphere was cold and unwelcoming. Julia approached the front desk, trying to steady her voice. "I'm here to see Max Wellington. He was brought in a little while ago."

The officer looked at her with a mix of boredom and suspicion. "And you are?"

"His wife," Julia said, her voice firm. "I need to see him."

The officer sighed. "Wait here."

Julia's heart raced as she waited, the minutes stretching into what felt like hours. Finally, the officer returned. "Follow me."

Julia was led down a dimly lit corridor to a small room. Through the glass, she could see Max sitting at a table, looking weary but composed. The sight of him brought a rush of relief and tears to her eyes.

"Max!" Julia exclaimed as she entered the room.

Max looked up, his eyes softening as he saw her. "Julia, I didn't want you to see me like this."

"Don't be ridiculous," Julia said, her voice breaking. "We're going to get you out of here. Samantha's making calls. We'll find a way."

William reached across the table, taking her hand in his. "Thank you, Julia. But there's something you need to know."
