Chapter 14 - Chapter 13: The Aftermath II

The rebellion had ended, and Robert Baratheon, the Storm Lord, now sat upon the Iron Throne. The realm was weary from war, and the new King faced the monumental task of restoring peace and stability. But even as the celebrations of his coronation echoed through the halls of the Red Keep, a dark cloud loomed over Robert's triumph. The fate of Princess Elia Martell and her two children, Rhaenys and Aegon, was shrouded in mystery. They had not been found among the burnt ruins of the bed chambers they were thought to have died in, nor had they been captured. Instead, they had vanished without a trace.

King Robert's initial reaction to this revelation was disbelief and fury. "How could they have escaped?" he demanded of his council, his voice a thunderous roar that shook the walls of the Great Hall. His advisors were as baffled as he was, for the chaos of the sack of King's Landing had allowed secrets to slip through the cracks. Even Varys could not tell what happened as he was too occupied with ensuring he stayed alive and kept his position.

No one could have known that within the Northern camp where the members of House Aurelius were set up, the Princess and her two children, who everyone was searching so desperately for, were living in hiding disguised as commoners. The last place they'd think to look is within the camps of the men under the banners of the King's brother in all but blood.

As the dust of war settled, King Robert began to reward those who had fought alongside him. The Great Hall of the Red Keep was filled with lords and ladies, each eager to receive the King's favor. House Aurelius was among those honored, their loyalty and bravery earning them high praise.

"Lord Tharren Aurelius," King Robert proclaimed, his voice carrying through the hall. Hearing his name called, Tharren stepped forward and kneeled before the throne as Robert nodded and continued, "Your house has shown unparalleled courage and loyalty. I grant you a reward of 50,000 gold dragons for your service."

"Thank you, your grace, for your generosity to our house," Darren replied calmly as he accepted the reward, which came in the form of a chest full of gold dragons, which he had his warriors take. As the reward ceremony continued, he stood back up and walked back to stand with the other Lords.

Following the ceremony, Tharren and his knights returned to their camp, where Princess Elia and her children awaited them. The Princess, though weary and anxious, expressed her gratitude. "You have saved us," she said in her emotion-filled voice. "I cannot thank you enough for your kindness in ensuring the safety of me and my children, even at the cost of you and your men's lives; I will surely remember this favor and repay it tenfold in the future if I have the chance."

Tharren shook his head. "It is not kindness, Princess, nor is it my duty. It was my son who took an interest in you for reasons I know not and had his knights sneak into the city to rescue you all. We will see you safely to the North, where you can find refuge. But even I do not know what my son has planned for you yet. I can tell you that no harm shall come to you. I swear on my honor and house."

Elia was perplexed by what Tharren had just told her about his son being the one who orchestrated her rescue and her subsequent delivery to the North. The more she thought about it, the more puzzled she was as the child shouldn't even know about how young he was, but what concerned her more was what he was bringing them to the North for. Elia could only resign to her fate and hope that Tharren will keep his promise that no harm will come to her and her children.

Time passed, and everything went as it did in the books/show, with Ned taking a few men and riding for the tower of joy to save Lyanna and meeting the rest of the King's guard before having a battle that would cause the deaths of William Dustin, Martyn Cassel and Theo Wull along with the three members of the King's guard. He would go on to find Lyanna already on the brink of death as she held her newborn in her arms. Seeing him coming, she used her last moments to make him promise to protect the newborn so that he may live a peaceful life, to which Ned agreed with tears as he witnessed his sister draw her last breath. Taking the newborn, who decided to pass off as his own, he left the tower, had the rest of the men take the remains of all the fallen, and returned to Kingslanding to tell Robert the news of Lynda's passing.

--------------------------------------

As Ned solemnly approaches Robert with the heartbreaking news of Lyanna's passing, Robert's initial reaction is disbelief. His eyes widen in shock, and his breath catches in his throat as he struggles to process the information. The news hits him like a physical blow, and for a moment, he cannot speak, his mind reeling with a flood of memories and emotions.

As the reality of the situation sinks in, grief washes over Robert in waves. His shoulders slump, and his features contort with sorrow as he grapples with the loss of the woman he loved so deeply. Lyanna's face flashes before his eyes, her laughter echoing in his ears, and he feels a deep ache at the thought of never seeing her again.

Anger soon bubbles to the surface directed both at the circumstances of Lyanna's death and at the cruel hand fate has dealt him. Robert's fists clench at his sides, his jaw tight with frustration and sorrow. He curses the gods for taking her away, for robbing him of the chance to spend a lifetime with the woman he believed to be his one true love.

Amidst the tumult of emotions, a profound loss settles in Robert's chest. He feels like a part of himself has been torn away, leaving a void that can never be filled. Memories of Lyanna flood his mind, each one a dagger to his already wounded heart, and he struggles to come to terms with the finality of her passing. Finally Robert looked at Ned who had lost his sister as well but couldn't find the words to console him so he reached for his goblet o a table beside instead downing the contents in one motion hoping the alcohol would numb the pain. "I'm sorry Ned but i need to be alone." he finally managed to utter the words out.

Ned could only nod and turn to leave, as he, too, did not know how to console his best friend. Yet his mind could not dwell on it much, as he had another situation to take care of the new baby that Lyanna left in his care.
