Chapter 663 - Chapter 663: A Desperate Twist

Holding the visibly excited Nissa, who was still elated by her newfound strength, William closed his eyes briefly, sensing the situation. Then, he opened a portal linking the robot warehouse in his base to the underground levels of the Scottish castle.

"Clank, clank."

The sound of heavy footsteps echoed as 50 fully armed reserve combat robots marched into the castle's underground tunnels.

Meanwhile, in the dim underground passage, Marcus, who was fiddling with a key to open the ancient lock, froze in alarm as the sound of footsteps—deliberately amplified on William's command—reached his ears.

His hands trembled as he transformed into his vampire state and quickly glanced over his shoulder, straining his ears to gauge the distance. After determining that the robots were still some distance away, he cursed under his breath while hastening his efforts.

"Damn it! These damn machines! How do they always find me? Why is it that the moment I arrive, they follow right behind me?"

Finally unlocking the stone door mechanism, Marcus hurried into the chamber where the Lycan progenitor was imprisoned.

After weaving through a series of narrow turns, he came face-to-face with a towering metallic cage—a rusted, two-and-a-half-meter-high metal coffin.

Closing his eyes, Marcus focused briefly and confirmed that his brother was inside the metal prison. With the heavy footsteps growing closer and closer, he had no time to hesitate.

Gripping the bronze key in his hand, he inserted it into the lock on the metal coffin and twisted.

"Click, click, click."

A series of mechanical sounds reverberated down the tunnel.

"Roar!"

As soon as the coffin unlocked, a towering, silver-haired werewolf—over 2.3 meters tall—emerged, snarling aggressively as it approached Marcus.

"Wait, wait! William Corvinus, it's me! Marcus, Marcus!" Marcus shouted in a panic.

Hearing this, the enormous silver werewolf's icy eyes flickered for a moment. Lowering its head, it sniffed Marcus cautiously. After a few seconds of silence, the werewolf unexpectedly nuzzled its head against Marcus's face in a rare display of affection.

"Yes! Yes! I knew you'd recognize me! Hahaha!" Marcus burst into jubilant laughter, overjoyed by the werewolf's reaction.

But with the "clank, clank" of approaching footsteps growing ever louder, he had no time for brotherly bonding.

Turning to the giant wolf, he said urgently, "Let's break out of here together!"

"Howl!"

The silver werewolf let out a thunderous howl before dropping to all fours and charging ahead.

"Wait! Wait!"

Seeing the werewolf rush off recklessly, Marcus knew things were about to go wrong and hurried to follow.

Before long, the sound of intense gunfire erupted.

"Rat-a-tat-tat! Rat-a-tat-tat!"

Rounding several bends, Marcus was greeted by the sight of his brother being mercilessly gunned down by five combat robots, all marching in unison and wielding M416 rifles. The werewolf's massive frame shuddered under the relentless barrage, with blood spraying everywhere.

Furious, Marcus let out a roar, spread his bat wings, and flew up into the air, aiming to dive into the line of robots just ten meters away.

But as he ascended, he saw rows of combat robots—ten rows in total, five robots per row—spaced a meter apart, forming an impenetrable phalanx that blocked the tunnel.

"Rat-a-tat-tat! Rat-a-tat-tat!"

Before Marcus could close the gap, the third and fourth rows of robots opened fire, aiming directly at him.

"Thud, thud."

Bullets pierced into Marcus and his brother, creating a symphony of blood splatter and pain.

Marcus quickly realized that if he charged the formation head-on, not only would he fail to survive, but his newly awakened brother, whose strength was still diminished, would also perish.

Shielding the werewolf with his wings, Marcus dragged him back into the confinement chamber.

Letting out a guttural cry, Marcus forced his body to eject the bullets embedded in him. Then, scanning the chamber, his eyes fell on the massive metal coffin.

With a roar of anger, he grabbed the coffin and heaved it upward with all his might.

Straining to lift the heavy, multi-ton coffin, Marcus slowly began dragging it into the tunnel, intending to use it as a battering ram to break through the robot phalanx.

But just as he managed to move into the tunnel, he noticed something strange—the robots, which had been steadily advancing, were now retreating rapidly.

"No! No! No!"

Carrying the enormous coffin, Marcus struggled to move just a few meters before his strength began to wane.

"Argh!"

Frustrated, he planted the metal coffin upright in front of him as a makeshift shield against the relentless gunfire. Exhausted and enraged, Marcus glared down the corridor at William, who stood tauntingly at the far end.

"Damn robots! Damn Devonshire! I swear I'll kill you and your entire family!" Marcus bellowed in fury.

"Ha," William smirked, curling his finger mockingly to beckon Marcus forward.

The silver werewolf, already driven to madness by the storm of bullets, roared and charged out of the chamber again, only to be met with another barrage that forced it to retreat, howling in pain.

Chuckling, William turned to Selene and Nissa. "Looks like we don't even need to get involved."

The two vampiric women, still buzzing with the power of their recent evolution, silently watched the robots. Their precise coordination, flawless timing, and disciplined formations left them feeling an unexpected sense of helplessness. They exchanged glances, then looked at William's back. Despite their relief, they couldn't help but feel a twinge of pity for Marcus.

Slowly, they lowered the M416 rifles they had been holding at the ready.

Through the smart glasses William wore, he observed the scene carefully. Each time Marcus lifted the metal coffin, the robots retreated. The moment he showed signs of exhaustion, they advanced and resumed firing, even lobbing grenades occasionally.

After several attempts, Marcus had only managed to advance about 20 meters down the 50-meter-long tunnel. Each successive effort left him moving shorter and shorter distances. By the third attempt, he had covered three to four meters less than the first.

Although Marcus had extraordinary regenerative abilities, his strength was entirely dependent on his blood. The more he bled, the weaker he became.

Selene rolled her eyes at Marcus, whose growing fear and desperation were now evident. Turning to William, she said, "William, just end it already. I'd rather see you cut his head off directly than watch you toy with him like this. He's only staying because of his brother."

William shrugged, about to order the robots to advance, when he noticed Marcus retreating with the werewolf back into the chamber. There, Marcus dropped the coffin and began desperately feeding his blood to the silver werewolf by slashing his own wrist.

Seeing this, a sudden thought struck William, bringing to mind a creature—a half-werewolf, half-vampire hybrid, jet-black and monstrous in form.

"F**k!" William cursed, spinning around to open a new portal. He quickly barked orders to Sunday. "Arm the remaining 20 combat robots in the warehouse with Gatling guns. Equip them with armor-piercing rounds if we have any. Do it immediately."

"Understood, sir," Sunday replied.

"What's wrong, darling?" Nissa asked, clutching his hand as she noticed his sudden change in demeanor. "Isn't this almost over?"
