For Sunday to interrupt him at this moment, William knew it had to be something serious. Handing the car keys to Jesse, he said, "You drive. My team just reported an unexpected situation."
"Okay," Jesse replied simply. Smart enough not to pry further, she opened the car door, got in, and started the engine. Glancing over, she noticed William sliding into the passenger seat, a sleek, high-tech, frameless monocle resting over his left eye.
William began watching the video that had just been transmitted. It only took about ten seconds for his expression to freeze in shock. Onscreen, two individuals were shown being electrocuted by his spider robots until they disintegrated into ash.
Still processing what he saw, Sunday provided a detailed report. "Sir, this outcome was the result of over ten spider robots discharging electricity simultaneously. However, I suspect these two were not humans. A normal person would collapse after being struck by four spider robots, yet these two managed to continue moving until more than ten units were attached to them.
After one minute of sustained electrical discharge, their bodies began emitting blue electrical arcs and sparks before completely disintegrating into ash."
"F***," William cursed inwardly. These two entities were clearly not ordinary humans. Watching their disintegration, he couldn't shake the suspicion that they were vampires.
Picking up his tablet, William began typing commands to Sunday. "Priority directive: Launch a thorough investigation into the presence of any rumored vampires in London, Oxford, and New York.
Produce 1,000 spider robots equipped with self-detonating UV bombs, and create ten Black Hornet drones with ultraviolet warhead capabilities, along with their carrier platforms."
"Understood, Sir. The priority task is now underway, and production is expected to be completed within 24 hours."
Manufacturing some extra spiders and drones wouldn't cost much, and it was better to be prepared just in case. Given that the world he lived in resembled a movie universe, William wasn't particularly surprised by the possible existence of vampires.
Normally, he rarely ventured out past midnight. But tonight, it was already nearing 2 a.m., and being in New York—a city that always seemed to get destroyed in movies—he couldn't help but feel a spark of curiosity about what vampires were truly capable of.
Still, any further investigation could wait until after he had his time with Jesse. After half an hour of driving, they arrived at Jesse's apartment. As soon as they stepped inside, they instinctively fell into each other's arms.
The rest of the night was a workout of a very different kind. When William realized during the process that Jesse was indeed experiencing her first time, a sense of tenderness for her grew in his heart.
The next morning at 11 a.m., William was still sound asleep, with Jesse nestled in his arms. He faintly felt someone kissing him and didn't need to open his eyes to know it was Jesse. Smirking, he lightly swatted her rounded backside and muttered, "Let me sleep a little longer."
"Then I'll go make lunch. What do you want to eat?" Jesse asked with a smile.
"Anything, as long as it fills me up," William replied, opening his eyes to see Jesse's face, her brows relaxed and radiant. "Good morning, darling."
"It's almost noon," Jesse said playfully. Hearing William call her "darling," she couldn't help but plant a kiss on his lips. "You keep sleeping. I'll call you when lunch is ready."
"Mhm," William murmured, burying his face back in the pillow. But having already woken up fully, he got out of bed a few minutes later, pulled on some clothes, and stepped into the living room to take a look around.
By a small bookshelf, he noticed there weren't many books, but there was a substantial collection of DVDs about wine. It seemed Jesse was indeed quite clever—if she found reading difficult, she compensated by watching and listening instead.
Finding nothing of particular interest, William wandered into the bathroom. As he brushed his teeth, his mind drifted to the $4 billion issue in Paris. Spitting out the toothpaste, he asked Sunday, "Did those two assassins, who were undercover members of the Paris Interior Ministry's special operations unit, make it back to Paris?"
"They've arrived, Sir. Based on video footage transmitted by the spider robots, the two are preparing to report on the situation in New York to their superior."
"Good. Once you identify their superior, keep close surveillance on them. I want to know their every move."
"Understood, Sir," Sunday replied. After a brief pause, she added, "Sir, shortly after you and Miss Jesse left last night, someone visited the site where the two suspected vampires turned to ash."
Exiting the bathroom, William pointed at his phone on the bedside table. "Pull up the footage."
"Yes, Sir."
A holographic projection appeared above the phone. The moment William saw the figure in the video, he was certain vampires were real.
Dressed in a leather trench coat and carrying a sword on his back, the individual was unmistakably Blade, the vampire hunter.
After a moment of thought, William instructed, "Contact this guy. Offer $5 million for a live vampire. Then, prepare a high-security, fully enclosed containment chamber at the Yellowstone base. Once the vampire is delivered, conduct comprehensive research to uncover its weaknesses and develop devices capable of detecting vampire traits on the spot."
"Understood, Sir."
After another pause, William asked, "How much tearing and biting force can my Mark suit withstand?"
"Sir, I doubt any creature could pierce your titanium alloy suit with teeth or claws. The suit can withstand even a Barrett sniper rifle, leaving only a tiny dent. Additionally, its shock absorption system ensures you're protected against any form of impact."
"Still, run tests to be sure. I also want to know if these damned vampires can use magic," William added. The realization that vampires existed had left him feeling uncertain. Until he was fully prepared, he had no intention of engaging with those creatures.
"Understood, Sir. Testing protocols are now in progress. Construction of the containment chamber is expected to be completed in three days."
"Darling, lunch is ready," Jesse called out, interrupting William's thoughts about how to handle vampires. She stepped into the living room wearing his oversized shirt, carrying a plate with a smile.
Setting the plate down, she climbed onto William's lap and teased, "Would you like lunch first, or me?"
Feeling the warmth and softness of her on his lap, William grinned and scooped her up. "How about both at the same time?"
By 4 p.m., William, now dressed and ready, held Jesse's hand as they prepared to leave. Taking her bag, he tossed it onto the couch and said, "You only need your passport. We'll buy everything else in Paris."
"My God, are you really taking me to Paris?" Jesse asked, her voice a mix of excitement and worry. "What if the paparazzi catch us together and find out about my background? And aren't you afraid of your two girlfriends causing trouble for you?"
Before she could say more, William silenced her with a deep kiss. After some time, he finally released the breathless Jesse and said, "All I know is that I don't want to be apart from you right now. Besides, you love wine and know quite a bit about it. I've been meaning to buy a vineyard, and maybe this trip to France will bring some surprises."
"Are you serious?" Jesse gasped, covering her mouth in disbelief. "Darling, if you're joking about this, I swear I'll bite you to death."
"Then you might as well start biting me now," William replied with a smirk.
