"That must be the Demon-Subduing Sword. As expected of Feipeng's weapon, it's truly powerful."
Watching the Shu Mountain Sect's young man wielding the Demon-Subduing Sword and engaging in a fierce battle with the Heavenly Demon Emperor in the sky, Daniel Davis couldn't help but feel a sense of awe.
The Heavenly Demon Emperor had previously overpowered five of the Shu Mountain Sect's elders single-handedly. If the fight had continued, Daniel Davis was certain that the Heavenly Demon Emperor would have emerged victorious. However, now that the Heavenly Demon Emperor was facing the young man with the Demon-Subduing Sword, he was momentarily unable to gain the upper hand.
This certainly wasn't because the young man's strength far surpassed that of the five elders. Rather, it was due to the power of the Demon-Subduing Sword in his hands. Indeed, this was the case.
The Shu Mountain Sect's notoriety among demons and monsters was largely due to the Demon Locking Tower, but the Demon-Subduing Sword was another significant factor.
The Demon-Subduing Sword had a tremendous suppressive effect on demons. If the Shu Mountain Sect's disciples were stronger and could fully unleash the sword's power, dealing with the Heavenly Demon Emperor would have been a trivial matter.
However, as things stood, the young disciple of the Shu Mountain Sect, relying on the Demon-Subduing Sword, could only hold his own against the Heavenly Demon Emperor for a short time. If the battle dragged on, the young man would inevitably exhaust himself and fall to the Heavenly Demon Emperor.
"The Demon-Subduing Sword... It doesn't seem appropriate to snatch it now."
Daniel Davis naturally knew that Feipeng's Demon-Subduing Sword was in the Shu Mountain Sect. However, since it was kept in the place where the sect's leader secluded himself, Daniel Davis hadn't considered taking it.
Strictly speaking, the Three Divine Artifacts—Fuxi's Sword, the Shennong Cauldron, and Nuwa's Blood Jade—were more valuable than the Demon-Subduing Sword. However, precisely because of their immense value and the fact that the Shu Mountain Sect couldn't fully utilize their power, they were stored in the sect for safekeeping.
In contrast, the Demon-Subduing Sword, while less valuable, was highly effective against demons, making it the most suitable weapon for the Shu Mountain Sect. As a result, it had essentially become the personal weapon of the sect's leader.
The Demon-Subduing Sword had fallen from the sky, leading the Shu Mountain Sect to believe it was a gift from the heavens. In reality, the sword had accidentally fallen to the Shu Mountain Sect during a battle between Feipeng and Chonglou.
Logically, a weapon of this caliber should have been reclaimed by the heavenly realm. However, for reasons unknown, the heavenly realm seemed indifferent to the Demon-Subduing Sword.
Originally named the Zhaodan Divine Sword, the Demon-Subduing Sword was forged by the Heavenly Emperor Fuxi using the essence of the Zhaodan Divine Spring and meteoric iron. It was specifically designed to counter the beast race created by Shennong, exerting a powerful suppressive effect on them. It was later bestowed upon Feipeng.
At first, Daniel Davis found this strange. But considering that the Three Divine Artifacts were also in the Shu Mountain Sect and the heavenly realm hadn't reclaimed them, it made sense that they wouldn't bother with the Demon-Subduing Sword either.
This was somewhat similar to the Infinity Stones in Marvel—some would go to great lengths to collect them, while others couldn't care less.
Now that the Demon-Subduing Sword was right before his eyes, Daniel Davis could easily take it using the spatial exchange ability of the Op-Op Fruit.
"Forget it. The Three Divine Artifacts are more important."
After some consideration, Daniel Davis decided to leave the Demon-Subduing Sword for now. After all, the Three Divine Artifacts were far more valuable. If he took the Demon-Subduing Sword now, the Shu Mountain Sect would undoubtedly focus their attention on him, making it much harder to obtain the Three Divine Artifacts later. Moreover, the Demon-Subduing Sword was currently a crucial weapon in the fight against the Heavenly Demon Emperor.
Although Daniel Davis had no particular fondness for the Shu Mountain Sect, he didn't want them to lose to the demons either.
Having made his decision, Daniel Davis immediately stopped paying attention to the battle between the Heavenly Demon Emperor and the Shu Mountain disciples. Instead, he descended toward the Shu Mountain Sect and headed for the Xuanguang Hall.
The Three Divine Artifacts were stored in the Xuanguang Hall. Fortunately, the Heavenly Demon Emperor and the other demons were focused on the Demon Locking Tower, drawing most of the Shu Mountain disciples to that area. This left the interior of the sect largely unguarded. Combined with the chaotic spiritual energy caused by the battle, Daniel Davis was able to infiltrate the Xuanguang Hall with ease.
As the hall where the Three Divine Artifacts were kept, the Xuanguang Hall should have been guarded by Shu Mountain disciples. However, due to the sheer number of attacking demons, there wasn't a single disciple guarding the hall, allowing Daniel Davis to slip in unnoticed.
"The Three Divine Artifacts are all here. These must be the portraits of the Three Sovereigns. How interesting—they even have a portrait of Nuwa. Yet, the Sword Saint treated Ling'er so poorly. He really deserves a beating."
The interior of the Xuanguang Hall was a small palace. At the front were three stone platforms, each holding a palm-sized cauldron, a round jade, and a sword. Surrounding these items was a golden glow, likely a protective formation.
Behind the three stone platforms hung three portraits, presumably of the Heavenly Emperor Fuxi, Shennong, and Nuwa.
"The Shennong Cauldron."
After glancing at the Three Divine Artifacts, Daniel Davis immediately approached the stone platform holding the Shennong Cauldron. He carefully reached out with his right hand toward the cauldron.
Although Daniel Davis had entertained the idea of taking all three artifacts, he knew that time was of the essence. He was still within the Shu Mountain Sect, and even though the disciples were preoccupied with the demons, there was always the risk of being discovered.
In such a situation, hesitation and greed were dangerous. Daniel Davis had always had good self-control. Otherwise, with his current strength and wealth, he could have easily lived a life of debauchery, indulging in the company of celebrities and models.
"This must be the so-called Three Sovereigns' Illusion."
As Daniel Davis's hand touched the golden glow surrounding the stone platform, he immediately felt his surroundings change. He was now in a dark, boundless void, with golden light forming a maze-like pattern beneath his feet.
Daniel Davis wasn't alarmed by this change. He had known beforehand that obtaining the Three Divine Artifacts wouldn't be easy and that the Three Sovereigns' Illusion would protect them. He just hadn't known what form the illusion would take.
Boom!
Daniel Davis immediately threw a powerful punch into the void. The space around him trembled violently, but unfortunately, it didn't collapse.
"It seems brute force won't work. Then I'll have to try this."
Realizing that brute force wouldn't break the illusion, Daniel Davis stopped attacking. Instead, he began drawing symbols in the air with his right hand. As he did so, black rats and eagles materialized and scattered in all directions.
If this was a maze, there had to be an exit. For someone with poor directional sense, finding the way out could take a long time. But for Daniel Davis, this wasn't a problem. He didn't even need to use shadow clones to solve the puzzle.
By combining the Thousand Arms Technique, Super Beast Imitation Drawing, and Shikigami Summoning, Daniel Davis had created his own version of the Thousand Arms Technique. If he continued to refine it by incorporating the talismans of this world, he might even develop the Thousand Immortal Arms Technique.
Daniel Davis chose not to use shadow clones for two reasons: first, it wasn't necessary, and second, he wanted to conserve his strength. He had no idea what challenges lay ahead.
"Thankfully, I have enough numbers. Otherwise, escaping this maze would have been a nightmare."
With the help of his summoned creatures, Daniel Davis eventually found the exit to the maze. He breathed a sigh of relief. This maze was different from traditional ones with walls. The void surrounding him and the three-dimensional structure of the maze made it feel like a mathematical spatial model.
"The end of science is divinity, and the end of divinity is science. In some ways, this is true."
"I didn't return to the Xuanguang Hall. It seems this is a连环 illusion."
After escaping the golden maze, Daniel Davis found himself not back in the Xuanguang Hall, but on a high platform surrounded by beautiful scenery.
After observing his surroundings, Daniel Davis immediately headed toward the top of the platform.
"The Three Sovereigns' Altar is forbidden to trespassers."
As Daniel Davis reached the highest point of the platform, a cold voice echoed around him. A shadowy figure materialized in front of him.
Although the figure's features were indistinct, Daniel Davis could see that it was tall and muscular, clad in what appeared to be animal skins and wielding a large wooden club.
"Shennong? No, this must be an illusion of Shennong." Although only an outline was visible, Daniel Davis recognized the figure from the portrait behind the Shennong Cauldron in the Xuanguang Hall.
"My apologies, senior."
As the illusion of Shennong swung its club at him, Daniel Davis's right hand turned pitch black, and he met the attack with a punch. Since this was the Three Sovereigns' Illusion and Daniel Davis had no idea what was happening outside, he needed to end this quickly. Close combat was the only option.
Sword immortals primarily relied on sword techniques to attack their enemies, but when facing opponents of equal strength, close combat was often the key to victory.
For example, the battle between the Qiong Hua Sect's Supreme Pure Elder and Chan You, as well as the current fight between the Shu Mountain disciple with the Demon-Subduing Sword and the Heavenly Demon Emperor, were both close-quarters battles.
Even the battles between Feipeng and Chonglou were primarily fought with close combat techniques. Long-range attacks were less effective unless used against large enemies or when the opponent was immobilized.
"Quite weak. But then again, it's just an illusion. So, what's this? The exit?"
After three punches, Daniel Davis shattered the illusion of Shennong. As the figure dissipated, a massive golden Tai Chi Bagua formation appeared at the edge of the platform.
"Supreme Pure Cloud-Splitting Sword!" Facing the stationary Tai Chi Bagua formation, Daniel Davis summoned a massive sword shadow using the Qiong Hua Sect's sword technique and destroyed the formation with a single strike.
As the formation shattered, countless beams of light shot out in all directions. Daniel Davis stood his ground, using his protective energy barrier to block the incoming light.
"Somewhat similar to Kizaru's Yasakani no Magatama." Although the scattered beams of light were powerful, they posed no threat to Daniel Davis in his current state.
"The cauldron... the Shennong Cauldron. So, this is the real Shennong Cauldron."
After destroying the Tai Chi Bagua formation, Daniel Davis expected to find an exit. Instead, a four-legged cauldron emerged. Unlike the palm-sized cauldron he had seen on the platform, this one was over a meter tall—a normal-sized cauldron.
"Long Ming, I wonder if you'll thank me or resent me. If I ever get the chance to meet you, I might help you out."
Long Ming's Yaksha Tribe needed the Shennong Cauldron. Now that Daniel Davis had taken it, Long Ming would have to return empty-handed. While this might seem unfair to him, it also spared him from his tragic fate—not just his, but also that of the Shu Mountain female disciple who had feelings for him.
"In my heart, you may not be more important than the Yaksha Tribe, but you are certainly more important than my life." Given the lifespan of demons, Long Ming and Long You were already alive at this time. In terms of longevity, humans couldn't compare to demons or gods.
It had to be said that Chinese Paladin was filled with tragic love stories, which Daniel Davis disliked. If given the chance, he wouldn't mind changing some of them.
"Speaking of which, Murong Ziyun is quite pitiful." Thinking of the various tragedies in Chinese Paladin, Daniel Davis suddenly realized how unfortunate Murong Ziyun was. In other Chinese Paladin series, the second male lead usually had a female companion, but Murong Ziyun didn't.
As for the speculation that Murong Ziyun had feelings for Han Lingsha, Daniel Davis had once thought so too. But now he was certain that Murong Ziyun only saw Han Lingsha as a friend.
"I hope you achieved immortality in the end." There were many theories about whether Murong Ziyun achieved immortality, but that no longer mattered. With Daniel Davis here, even if Murong Ziyun hadn't become immortal, extending his lifespan wouldn't be a problem.
After shaking his head slightly, Daniel Davis reached out and grabbed the Shennong Cauldron. Instantly, his surroundings changed again. The high platform disappeared, and he was back in the Xuanguang Hall, holding the palm-sized Shennong Cauldron in his right hand.
"Truly a divine artifact—it can change size." Looking at the Shennong Cauldron in his hand, Daniel Davis smiled with satisfaction. He then stored the cauldron and turned his attention to Nuwa's Blood Jade and Fuxi's Sword.
"Nuwa's Blood Jade it is."
After a moment of hesitation, Daniel Davis decided to take Nuwa's Blood Jade as well. In terms of power, Fuxi's Sword was undoubtedly stronger. However, even if Daniel Davis obtained it, he might not be able to fully utilize its power. Moreover, using it could lead to the same fate as Yun Tianhe.
After all, in terms of rank, Fuxi's Sword was undoubtedly superior to Houyi's Sun-Shooting Bow.
In this situation, choosing Nuwa's Blood Jade, which had auxiliary functions, was a wise decision. Power should be gained gradually, and Daniel Davis had a long journey ahead of him. There was no need to rush.
Of course, there was another important reason for not choosing Fuxi's Sword: while Shennong had likely disappeared and Nuwa was in a weakened state, the Heavenly Emperor Fuxi was at the peak of his power.
If Daniel Davis took Fuxi's Sword, there was a risk that the Heavenly Emperor might sense something through it. While someone from this world could wield Fuxi's Sword without issue, Daniel Davis taking it posed too great a risk.
