"You really are quick, aren't you?"
As the spirit of the King of Huainan dissipated into thin air, Daniel Davis turned to look at the Wangshu Sword in Yun Tianhe's hand and shook his head slightly. He had initially wanted to test the King of Huainan's strength, but Yun Tianhe had taken him out in an instant.
"Lingsha, are you alright?"
Just then, Liu Mengli's worried voice came from the side. Daniel and Yun Tianhe turned to see Liu Mengli supporting a pale-faced Han Lingsha.
"I'm fine, just a little tired," Han Lingsha said, pressing her hand to her forehead and waving at Liu Mengli to signal she was okay.
"Let's take a break for now. This place is still relatively clean," Liu Mengli suggested as she helped Han Lingsha over to a nearby staircase to sit down. Yun Tianhe, looking concerned, followed them.
While the others rested, Daniel inspected the area. He examined the remaining porcelain bottles and bamboo scrolls scattered around but found nothing particularly noteworthy. Though some of the scrolls contained alchemy knowledge, they were all related to using pills to ascend to immortality—a method that, while not impossible, was far more difficult than other paths, like achieving ascension through the Five Elemental Orbs. Unless one had access to a miraculous pill like the Nine-Turn Golden Pill, it was virtually impractical.
After scouring the room, Daniel's attention turned back to the massive alchemy furnace. Placing his hand on it, he muttered silently to himself, "It seems like this alchemy furnace might be the most valuable thing here."
As the primary tool used by the King of Huainan to craft supposed immortality pills, the furnace was undoubtedly extraordinary. Though it couldn't compare to the legendary Shennong Cauldron, it was still far superior to the furnaces Daniel had seen in other worlds, such as the one used by Yun Zhongjun in Qin's Moon. However, with Yun Tianhe and the others present, Daniel decided to wait for another opportunity to retrieve it later.
Staying with Yun Tianhe's group was part of his broader plan. Not only were they the protagonists of the story he had once loved, but sticking with them was also the best way to gain access to the Qionghua Sect, which wasn't actively recruiting disciples during the current chaos of the Phantom Nether Realm's resurgence.
"You don't understand! I'm doing this to save people—the villagers!"
Han Lingsha suddenly stood up and shouted at Liu Mengli, her voice trembling with emotion. However, midway through her sentence, her tone softened, and she stopped speaking altogether.
"I'm sorry, Lingsha. I didn't know," Liu Mengli said, standing as well.
"Lingsha, you're amazing! Just like my dad said—saving people from suffering is the most admirable thing anyone can do," Yun Tianhe chimed in, clearly unaware of the deeper issues at play but offering his genuine admiration nonetheless.
His sudden praise caused Han Lingsha's face to flush slightly, and she replied somewhat awkwardly, "You wild man, don't suddenly say such serious things."
After Yun Tianhe's heartfelt comment, he turned his gaze to Liu Mengli and asked, "Mengli, didn't you once say that if someone seemed agreeable to you, you'd want to marry them?"
Taken aback by the question, Liu Mengli nodded and said, "Yes, that's true."
With Liu Mengli's confirmation, Yun Tianhe then looked at Han Lingsha and said with complete sincerity, "Lingsha, I think you're very agreeable. Why don't I marry you? Then we can play together, search for things together, and save people from suffering together."
Liu Mengli: "…"
Han Lingsha: "…"
Yun Tianhe's unexpected declaration left both women stunned. Nearby, Daniel couldn't hold back and burst out laughing.
Daniel's laughter snapped Liu Mengli and Han Lingsha out of their daze. Han Lingsha, now red-faced with a mix of embarrassment and anger, shouted at Yun Tianhe, "You pig-headed idiot, you wild man! What are you even thinking? Marry me? I wouldn't marry you in a million years!"
"Pfft—hahaha!" Daniel couldn't help but laugh harder at her words. Even Liu Mengli, who was usually reserved, couldn't suppress a chuckle. However, her laughter was much more refined compared to Daniel's unrestrained amusement.
Realizing what she had just said, Han Lingsha's face turned an even deeper shade of red. She immediately turned her frustration back on Yun Tianhe. "This is all your fault, Yun Tianhe! You've completely confused me!"
Unable to contain her frustration, she stood on tiptoe and smacked Yun Tianhe on the head. Yun Tianhe, now rubbing his head in confusion, protested, "Ow! Lingsha, what was that for?"
"You're blushing. Are you feeling unwell? I told you not to get angry so often—it's bad for your health," Yun Tianhe said earnestly, noticing Han Lingsha's flushed cheeks and slightly labored breathing.
"Ridiculous! I'm not blushing!" Han Lingsha retorted vehemently.
"Yun Gongzi," Liu Mengli began, attempting to address Yun Tianhe's confusion. However, before she could clarify, Yun Tianhe turned to her and said, "Mengli, I think you're very agreeable too. Why don't I marry you as well? Then we can all play together and look for things together."
As if that wasn't shocking enough, Yun Tianhe then turned to Daniel and continued, "And you, A-Fei. I think you're agreeable too. Why don't I marry you as well? Then the four of us can play together."
If Yun Tianhe's earlier statements were surprising, this one left the group completely speechless.
Han Lingsha froze for a moment before exploding. "Yun Tianhe, shut up right now!" she yelled, smacking him on the head again with a resounding smack.
"Lingsha, why did you hit me again?" Yun Tianhe asked, utterly perplexed.
"Yun Gongzi," Liu Mengli interjected, her tone calm but serious, "only women can get married. Men cannot marry; they can only take wives."
"Really? Then that's so unfair to men!" Yun Tianhe replied, looking genuinely aggrieved.
His naive response made both Liu Mengli and Han Lingsha burst into laughter again. After a moment, Liu Mengli regained her composure and clarified further, "Men don't get married—they take wives. That's the proper term."
"Oh, I see. Then I'll take you all as my wives," Yun Tianhe said matter-of-factly. He paused, then asked, "But what about A-Fei? What should I do about him?"
Han Lingsha looked like she was about to collapse from frustration. "I can't take it anymore!" she exclaimed.
Finally, Liu Mengli managed to explain the concepts of marriage and relationships to Yun Tianhe. She also clarified that relationships between men were strictly platonic in this world.
Daniel smirked slightly at this but chose to remain silent, knowing that trying to introduce the concept of "true love" between men would be far too shocking in this setting, especially for someone as traditional as Liu Mengli.
"Alright, let's head out. We've already wasted too much time here," Daniel suggested.
"Yes, let's go," Han Lingsha agreed. After witnessing the King of Huainan's tragic fate, she had no desire to linger in the tomb any longer.
As they proceeded through the tomb, they came across a broken wall near the end of a corridor. Han Lingsha's face darkened when she saw it.
"Whoever broke in here has no understanding of feng shui! No wonder the flow of energy in this tomb became so chaotic," she muttered angrily. "This is the work of an amateur!"
"Will the ghosts and spirits from here harm the townsfolk if we leave it like this?" Liu Mengli asked, her concern for the nearby residents of Shouyang County evident.
"Lingsha's so skilled—can't she just fix the feng shui?" Yun Tianhe suggested innocently.
"Fixing feng shui isn't as simple as eating a meal, you idiot! If it's done poorly, it could lead to divine retribution!" Han Lingsha replied, exasperated. While her knowledge of feng shui was impressive, it wasn't enough to repair something as severely damaged as this tomb.
After exiting the tomb, the group continued their journey, eventually descending from Bowl Hill. In the distance, they caught sight of Chenzhou's towering city walls. Han Lingsha began explaining the city's history to her companions.
"Chenzhou is said to be a sacred place along the Huai River. It's believed that the celestial deity Fuxi set up the Pre-Heaven Eight Trigrams Array here. No demon or monster dares cause trouble in this area. That's why this city has been prosperous for generations."
At the city gates, the bustling crowds left Yun Tianhe speechless. Chenzhou, as a capital city, was far grander than anything Shouyang County could offer.
Even Liu Mengli was taken aback. Though she had read extensively, the reality of seeing Chenzhou in person far surpassed anything described in books.
"Chenzhou was built on the site of the ancient capital of the State of Chen from the Spring and Autumn
period," Han Lingsha explained. Rarely did she get to show off her knowledge, and she seemed particularly pleased with herself.
However, when she turned to check on Yun Tianhe and Liu Mengli, she realized they had disappeared.
"Where did they go?" she asked, frowning as she looked around.
"They ran off to see some commotion over there," Daniel said casually, pointing in the direction they had gone. "I didn't bother stopping them."
"Ugh! That wild man even dragged Mengli along!" Han Lingsha grumbled, her face darkening. Her mood worsened when a passing scholar's dog began barking at her.
"What kind of dog is this? So cowardly!" Han Lingsha muttered irritably.
"And what kind of woman has such a bad temper?" the scholar retorted before quickly fleeing with his dog, leaving Han Lingsha fuming.
"Damn it, Yun Tianhe!" she yelled, blaming him for her sour mood. "You go book our rooms at the Shengping Inn. I'll go find them!" Without waiting for Daniel's response, she stormed off.
At the Shengping Inn, Daniel booked four separate upper-class rooms. He had no intention of skimping, especially when they had enough money.
"Boss, is my wine ready?" A silky voice interrupted Daniel's thoughts. Turning, he saw a slender black-haired woman holding a tobacco pipe. Behind her stood a tall, masked man whose face was obscured.
"Ah, Lady Suxin! It's ready!" The innkeeper greeted her warmly, quickly placing two jars of wine on the counter.
"Suxin?" The name caught Daniel's attention, and he instinctively glanced at the woman and her towering companion.
