As the destined wielder of the Wangshu Sword, Han Lingsha's constitution was undoubtedly of the yin attribute. Daniel Davis speculated she was likely born during a yin year, yin month, yin day, and yin hour, resulting in her extremely yin-based physique. However, this was just his guess; the exact details remained unclear to him.
"Are these things targeting me because they think I'm easy to bully?" Han Lingsha's frustration was evident as all the restless spirits charged toward her. If Daniel could sense the issue, naturally Han Lingsha and Liu Mengli had also noticed.
"Lingsha, have you ever experienced something like this before?" Liu Mengli asked.
"This is the first time. I've explored countless tombs, but nothing like this has ever happened," Han Lingsha replied. Having dealt with restless spirits and vengeful ghosts in the past, she found their specific targeting of her highly unusual.
"It seems like your constitution has awakened," Daniel thought to himself.
"Lingsha, stay in the middle for safety," Liu Mengli suggested.
"Lingsha, my dad always said that boys should protect girls. We'll protect you," Yun Tianhe added confidently. By "we," he naturally meant himself and Daniel. As it turned out, Han Lingsha and Liu Mengli hadn't needed to lift a finger so far—Daniel and Yun Tianhe had handled every threat.
"You protect them. I've recently mastered the Five Elemental Immortal Arts, so leave the rest to me," Yun Tianhe declared. His mastery of the Five Elemental Immortal Arts was not surprising given his extraordinary innate talent. Born immune to water and fire, Yun Tianhe's potential in this world of cultivation far surpassed even experts like Xuanxiao or Murong Ziying. The only problem was that Yun Tianhe had little interest in cultivating.
The Five Elemental Immortal Arts Yun Tianhe knew were those Han Lingsha had casually taught him during their time at Stone Stream Cavern. Remarkably, he had learned them after hearing them explained just once—a feat even Daniel couldn't manage. Of course, this was partly due to the top-tier cultivation techniques Yun Tianqing had taught Yun Tianhe, which were likely of Qionghua Sect origin. If Yun Tianqing had also taught Yun Tianhe sword flight techniques, Yun Tianhe wouldn't even need to join the Qionghua Sect to learn to fly.
"It's strange. Why are there so many restless spirits and vengeful ghosts here? Wasn't the King of Huainan supposed to have achieved immortality?" Yun Tianhe's question broke the silence as the group pressed forward. After Daniel took over, Yun Tianhe, Liu Mengli, and Han Lingsha no longer needed to fight.
The ghosts in the King of Huainan's tomb were no ordinary entities. With their eerie nature and formidable strength, any ordinary martial artists who ventured here would have faced heavy casualties. But unfortunately for them, the group of four exploring the tomb was anything but ordinary. Daniel, not wanting Yun Tianhe to rely too much on the Wangshu Sword, had stepped in to handle the ghosts himself.
"This path is blocked. Let me handle it!" Reaching what seemed like a dead end, Han Lingsha examined the surroundings and quickly located a mechanism. After a bit of tinkering, she opened the path, and the group proceeded further into the tomb.
"This room seems to have no ghosts," Liu Mengli noted as they entered a chamber.
The room was relatively small compared to others in the tomb, but "small" was a relative term—it was still grand by ordinary standards. As the main burial chamber of the King of Huainan, it naturally wasn't lacking in splendor. The room also had secondary burial chambers, which contained a variety of burial goods. Han Lingsha, unable to resist, helped herself to some of the more valuable items.
At the center of the chamber stood a raised platform. On it were two stone pedestals, each holding a jade toad—one yellow and one red. Between the pedestals sat an extravagant golden throne.
"Lingsha, there's no exit here either," Yun Tianhe observed as he looked around.
"I know. I'm looking for the mechanism. A room with no ghosts must be important. There must be a hidden switch somewhere," Han Lingsha said as she began investigating.
"These two toads look interesting," Yun Tianhe remarked, his attention drawn to the jade toads.
"They're made of yellow jade and red jade, representing the sun and the moon," Han Lingsha explained while continuing her search. "They symbolize the Sun Sovereign and Moon Sovereign—the deities of celestial yin and yang."
Though Han Lingsha often dismissed Yun Tianhe as clueless, she still found herself explaining things to him whenever he didn't understand. Unfortunately, no matter how detailed her explanations were, Yun Tianhe often looked as if he hadn't comprehended a word.
Suddenly, Han Lingsha pressed her hand down on the red jade toad. A red beam of light shot upward, startling her. At the same time, Yun Tianhe, standing near the yellow jade toad, accidentally triggered it as well, releasing a yellow beam. The two beams of light intertwined in the air, forming a glowing taijitu.
As the taijitu materialized, a hidden door opened in the corner of the chamber. The yellow and red jade toads were the key to unlocking the passage.
"So that's how it works," Han Lingsha muttered, her expression brightening. "I was mistaken earlier—these aren't ordinary jade pieces. They're Yin-Yang Zi Que."
"Yin-Yang Zi Que? I know about that! You can eat them. I wonder if they taste good," Yun Tianhe said, eyeing the jade toads eagerly. It seemed he was seriously considering taking a bite.
"You wild man, what would you know?" Han Lingsha scoffed.
"My dad told me about it! He said that eating Yin-Yang Zi Que would make you stronger," Yun Tianhe insisted.
"Hmph, you're actually half-right this time," Han Lingsha admitted begrudgingly. "But only Yin-Yang Zi Que that's been buried underground for 2,000 years is edible. These ones have only been underground for 1,000 years."
Han Lingsha explained the origins of Yin-Yang Zi Que. After 1,000 years underground, the jade forms into what is considered an invaluable gemstone. If left buried for another 1,000 years, it transforms into jade essence, at which point it becomes edible. The essence is said to have miraculous effects, but eating it requires both the yin and yang essences to be consumed together—otherwise, it could be harmful.
For this reason, while many pieces of Yin-Yang Zi Que existed, most were used to craft jade artifacts rather than consumed. Few had ever eaten the fully matured essence.
Han Lingsha's gaze lingered on the jade toads with a hint of disappointment. If these had been 2,000-year-old jade essences, she could have taken them back to her clan to help her people.
"Let's move on; the path is open now," Han Lingsha said after her explanation. However, she noticed Yun Tianhe playing with his Wangshu Sword, seemingly sizing up the jade toads for some reason.
"Tianhe, what are you doing?" she called out.
"You're not calling me a wild man or bumpkin anymore," Yun Tianhe remarked, noting the change in her tone. Han Lingsha's nicknames for him seemed to vary daily, perhaps influenced by Liu Mengli always addressing him as "Young Master Yun."
"Well, these need another 1,000 years to mature, right? I thought I could take them outside and bury them somewhere safe," Yun Tianhe explained innocently.
"Can you live another 1,000 years to eat them? You'd never live that long. Taking them would just be a burden. Let's go!" Han Lingsha said impatiently.
Though Yin-Yang Zi Que was incredibly valuable, Han Lingsha valued their potential benefits more than their monetary worth. She wasn't inclined to take them when they were far from their full potential, especially given the current situation with the tomb.
"I can live a thousand years," Daniel suddenly said. Before anyone could react, two flashes of cold light gleamed as he swiftly severed the jade toads from their pedestals and stored them in his bag.
"What are you doing?" Han Lingsha, Liu Mengli, and Yun Tianhe stared at him in surprise.
"Why are you all looking at me like that? While I can't bury them for another thousand years, leaving them here would just be a waste," Daniel said nonchalantly as he secured the jade toads.
Unlike Yun Tianhe, Daniel had no intention of waiting 1,000 years for the jade to mature. With his own lifespan and capabilities, he wouldn't need something like Yin-Yang Zi Que by then. However, he had other uses for the jade.
"Fair enough. Let's keep moving," Han Lingsha said, dropping the matter.
The group passed through the hidden door and entered another grand chamber. In the center stood a massive alchemy furnace atop a high platform.
"This must be the pill room!" Han Lingsha's eyes sparkled with excitement. For someone like her, whose purpose for coming to the tomb was to find immortal pills, this was the ultimate discovery.
"Here's the Jade Cauldron's alchemy inscriptions," Liu Mengli said as she picked up a bamboo scroll lying near the furnace. She began to
read aloud:
"We consumed the Supreme Immortal Mist Pills and ascended to the heavens…"
Hearing this, Han Lingsha's excitement grew. "I knew it! There's a way! There has to be a way! Mengli, is there a recipe for the Supreme Immortal Mist Pills on the scroll?"
"No… the recipe isn't complete," Liu Mengli replied after carefully examining the scroll.
"That's impossible! Mengli, look again—there has to be more!" Han Lingsha grew frantic.
"Lingsha, please calm down…"
Before Liu Mengli could finish, Yun Tianhe suddenly drew his Wangshu Sword and stepped protectively in front of Han Lingsha and Liu Mengli.
"Careful. There's killing intent," Yun Tianhe said, his eyes fixed on the chamber's entrance.
Han Lingsha was about to scold him for overreacting when she noticed a sinister black mist emerging from a red porcelain bottle. The air grew colder, and her words caught in her throat.
With a flick of his finger, Daniel sent the porcelain bottle flying. As it flew, the black mist pouring from its neck also dissipated. Suddenly, a blue-faced, sharp-fanged figure materialized from the lingering mist and laughed ominously.
"At last, I am free! Hahaha!"
"Who are you?" Han Lingsha demanded, her expression darkening. "You're not… the King of Huainan, are you?"
"Indeed, I am the King of Huainan. Who dares disturb my rest? Are you disciples of that treacherous Taoist?"
"You… weren't you supposed to have ascended? Why have you become like this?" Han Lingsha stammered, her face pale.
"It's all because of that treacherous Taoist! Back then, I diligently pursued immortality and virtue. But that Taoist deceived me! He tricked me and eight other sages into consuming the Supreme Immortal Mist Pills. Instead of ascending, we perished! He sealed us inside crimson jade bottles to cover up his crime. Now that I am free, I will rend that Taoist limb from limb!"
"If that's true, why did you leave behind inscriptions claiming you ascended?" Han Lingsha retorted, her voice sharp with anger.
"How dare you, lowly peasant! How dare you question me!" the King of Huainan roared, his face contorting in rage. Raising a blackened hand, he sent a ball of black fire hurtling toward Han Lingsha.
"Lingsha, watch out!" Yun Tianhe cried, stepping forward to intercept the attack with his Wangshu Sword.
"Let me handle this," Daniel said calmly. Summoning his mastery over earth-elemental techniques using the Earth Spirit Pearl, he conjured a stone shield to block the black fire.
"It's been hundreds of years since your death. That Taoist is likely long gone," Daniel remarked.
"If he's gone, then I will slaughter all Taoists in the world to avenge myself!" the King of Huainan snarled, his black aura intensifying.
"You idiot! There are Sword Immortals outside who would cut you down the moment you show your face. Do you think you stand a chance against them in your current state?" Daniel mocked.
"Silence! I will kill you!" the King of Huainan howled, raising both hands. From his claws emerged two massive spectral hands, the "Nether Ghost Claws," which surged toward the group.
Daniel sensed the King of Huainan's power and evaluated him as a formidable opponent. "His strength isn't bad. Even Huai Shuo and Xuanji might struggle against him," he thought.
Just as Daniel prepared to counter, a brilliant blue light streaked through the air. It pierced through the ghostly claws and struck the King of Huainan, shredding his spectral body.
The blue light faded, revealing the Wangshu Sword floating behind the King. It spun around and struck him again before returning to Yun Tianhe's hand.
"No… impossible! I was meant to reign for eternity! To live as long as the heavens!" the King of Huainan cried out in despair as his body dissolved into nothingness.
But against the Wangshu Sword, even the vengeful spirit of a once-mighty king was powerless.
