Wensday Lunch Break
The cafeteria buzzed with conversation as students filled nearly every table.
Near the large windows sat the usual group.
Max Dove,Calvin Brooks,Nathan Reed,Luke Carter and Fred Matthew.
The five boys occupied their usual table, trays of food scattered between them while they talked about everything and absolutely nothing.
"...and then Coach made us run laps for forty minutes," Nathan complained.
Luke laughed.
"That's because you skipped practice."
"I was busy."
"You were sleeping."
"Still busy."
Across the table, Max leaned back lazily in his chair.
"You complain too much."
Nathan pointed a fry at him.
"Easy for you to say. Coach likes you."
"Everybody likes me."
The table immediately groaned.
"Here we go again," Fred muttered.
Just then Angel and Miley appeared.
Miley dropped into the empty seat beside Fred while Angel sat opposite Calvin.
"Good afternoon, peasants," Angel greeted dramatically.
"You're late," Max replied.
"It's lunch."
"Exactly."
Angel narrowed her eyes.
"You sound annoying today."
"You sound annoying every day."
"Fair."
Miley laughed.
Calvin smiled slightly.
"You got demerits today."
Angel leaned into her seat, then she turned toward Max.
"How do you know that?"
Max smirked.
"I have sources."
"You mean gossip."
"I mean sources."
Angel pointed her fork at him.
"Mind your business."
"No."
"Max."
"No."
"You're unbearable."
"And yet here we are."
Nathan nearly choked trying not to laugh.
Before Angel could throw something at her brother, two familiar figures approached the table.
Ariana Randen.
Molly Hayes.
Both girls wore matching pink outfits that looked like they had been planned weeks in advance.
Angel immediately made a face.
Miley hid a laugh behind her drink.
"Oh look," Angel muttered. "It's the Pink Panthers."
"Angel," Miley whispered.
"What? Just stating the obvious."
"Sigh"
Ariana ignored her completely and sat beside Calvin.
Meanwhile Molly immediately slid into the seat beside Max.
Far too close for Angel's liking.
"Hi Max," Molly said sweetly.
Max glanced at her.
"Hey."
Angel watched suspiciously.
Molly had dated Max for two year, before the relationship ended in a spectacular argument that Molly cheated on Max the entire school still talked about it.
For some reason Molly hadn't gotten the memo that they were over.
"Anyway," Max said, looking around the table.
"You guys should come over later ."
Nathan looked interested immediately.
"For what?"
"Games."
"I'm in."
"Same."
The boys agreed.
Molly shifted in her seat and smiled brightly.
"Can I come too?" She asked sweetly.
Max shrugged.
"If you want."
Angel groaned.
Across the table Calvin glanced at Angel just for a second.
A small smile tugged at his lips.
Angel didn't notice.
But Max did.
And so did Nathan.
Nathan immediately kicked Calvin beneath the table.
Calvin nearly choked on his drink.
"What was that for?" he hissed.
Nathan's grin widened.
"Nothing."
Max narrowed his eyes suspiciously.
The table continued talking, but Calvin suddenly found himself paying less attention to the conversation.
And more attention to the blonde girl sitting across from him.
Which was exactly the problem.
Because everyone knew Max Dove had one rule.
No one dated his sister.
