Chapter 4292: The Story of the Past
In the ancient chaos, there stood a figure towering, vast in power a Heaven Earth Supreme.
But he had no face, and the instant after Lin Moyu beheld him, he forgot it altogether.
The Dao's power was overwhelming it erased all traces that this being had ever existed.
Yet it could not erase the records within the Catastrophic Scepter; only, after looking, Lin Moyu could not retain them in memory.
Such was the Dao able to bend thought, crush one's Dao Heart, shatter the soul. Lin Moyu once more felt its terrible might firsthand.
The faceless man held the Catastrophic Scepter, his voice booming through the chaos:
"So, within the chaos, there was yet such a one."
"All the better. I thought I had no road forward; it seems there is still a path."
"I have fought heaven and battled earth and now I have one more target. Let me see, how strong are you? Are you worthy to be my opponent?"
With that, he swung the Scepter, splitting the void, tearing through the mist the chaos qi drew back.
In the broken void, a colossal eye appeared.
At once he became a giant tens of thousands of li tall, and smashed the Scepter down upon it.
But in the next instant his body exploded apart, flesh and blood scattering across billions of li, to drift through the chaos.
The flesh of a Supreme contained limitless power; merging with chaos, it detonated again, beginning to evolve into domains and worlds.
From his own flesh, the man was reborn, Catastrophic Scepter once more in hand but his aura was far weaker, almost fallen from the Supreme realm altogether.
Though Lin Moyu could not see his expression, he felt the man's deep fear.
The giant eye seemed to step through space and came before him; he flung the Scepter away, sending it slicing into the void, disappearing and in that same moment, he was shattered to nothing.
A mighty Heaven Earth Supreme, slain under the two eyes of the Dao like an ant.
And all records of his existence erased even his closest bondsmen would not remember him. It was as if he had never lived at all.
The vision shifted the ancient aura had thinned; much time had passed.
Again someone appeared, the Scepter falling into his hands.
Compared to the first Supreme, this one's aura was much, much weaker.
Lin Moyu knew this was the later Catastrophic Supreme, who, at the time he acquired the Scepter, had not yet reached the Supreme realm.
From it he gained the information left behind by the erased Supreme seeming to realize something, yet not daring to speak it aloud.
He sought out two friends and shared the matter with them.
Their method of sharing was strange they did not speak, merely let the other hold the Scepter.
Even their discussions occurred through the Scepter.
Those two friends were the green robed and white robed elders neither of them Supremes at the time.
What they discussed, Lin Moyu could not tell; likely the memory of it was erased on the spot, leaving no trace even in the Scepter.
Afterward, the three roamed and explored the chaos together.
There were many mysterious places there; they experienced countless marvels.
In time, all three reached the Heaven Earth Supreme realm and their strength soared.
But they did not stop they split up to continue exploring. Meanwhile, the Catastrophic Supreme did many other things things Lin Moyu could not understand, each seemingly ordinary, yet somehow imbued with deeper meaning.
Following him everywhere was an attendant; Lin Moyu could tell it was the Heavenly Void Son.
The Heavenly Void Son journeyed widely with the Catastrophic Supreme, undertaking many tasks, and eventually himself reaching perfection in the Chaos Realm.
In that time, the Catastrophic Supreme also acquired several top treasures the Ferry of Tribulation among them.
Then it was only a spherical pearl. He refined it and reshaped it into its current form, building within it this palace and his own statue.
Countless years later, the Supreme, with the Heavenly Void Son, met again with the green and white robes.
After conferring, they began their plan in earnest.
By now, the Catastrophic Supreme grasped the Scepter far more deeply, and his combat power exceeded that of the previous Supreme.
If there was a difference, it was that he had reached the very peak of the Heaven Earth Supreme stage no further to go.
The erased Supreme, by contrast, had room to grow, though he had not realized it and thus, by rushing, he had died quickly.
The Catastrophic Scepter, as a treasure beyond chaos, would not forgive such recklessness challenging the Dao without maximizing one's own strength and mastery of the Scepter was courting death.
The later Supreme was far more cautious, preparing for years; everything seemed in his design.
The green robe, white robe, and Heavenly Void Son all withdrew this part he would do alone.
He swung the Scepter; the Soul, Balance, Elemental, and Domain gems all flared, and four avatars split from him.
Only the Hongmeng Gem stayed inert Lin Moyu did not know why.
Each avatar gripped a Scepter of its own but these were mere copies, lacking the Hongmeng Gem.
The Catastrophic Supreme fought to the end of chaos, just as his predecessor had, shattering it to draw the Dao forth.
When the giant eye manifested, he struck first.
Once more the Dao's power revealed itself he could not close the distance but his tactics were beyond its expectations.
Using himself as bait, he self‑detonated, riding the force of that detonation to smash the Scepter down.
His four avatars also self‑detonated the Scepter hurtled into the eye with overwhelming might.
The eye cracked, and something fell out.
"The Chaos Pearl!"
"So it was the Catastrophic Supreme who snatched it."
Lin Moyu recognized it instantly.
The real Supreme came in the Ferry, snatched the Pearl before the eye, and struck it a heavy blow with the true Scepter.
The eye loosed myriad beams into the Ferry, blasted it away damaged, and struck the Supreme a grievous wound.
Because of the Ferry's protection, the Dao did not kill him instantly giving him a chance.
He cast away the Pearl, the Scepter, and the Ferry into the chaos, sending them far.
Then he faced the Dao calmly, knowing he could not escape so he did not try.
The final scene Lin Moyu had already seen once before: the Supreme dying in an instant.
But it was not without a fight he had even wounded the Dao before falling.
And in that, he had gleaned much.
The Dao erased him yet something went awry, and it failed to wipe him entirely.
Lin Moyu guessed it might have been because it, too, was injured.
At the very least, some of the Supreme's arrangements persisted to this day.
The vision faded, his consciousness returning. Lin Moyu let out a long breath. "Truly… far from easy!"
