Chapter 4289: The Fifth Gemstone
After countless years of waiting, the wisp of will left behind by the Catastrophic Supreme finally reached its conclusion.
As that will was about to disperse, there was no sadness in it rather, there was a sense of relief. Lin Moyu also felt neither joy nor grief.
He knew the Catastrophic Supreme likely still had remnants of consciousness elsewhere. This game was huge the information had been broken apart and scattered like a shattered puzzle. He would need to piece it together bit by bit.
Once the Catastrophic Supreme's consciousness faded, a square stele half the height of a person floated forth. On its front face appeared the characters for "Ferry of Tribulation."
This was the core of the Ferry. As long as he refined this stele, he would gain complete control over the Ferry and become its master. At that point, if he didn't want to call it the Ferry of Tribulation, he could rename it as he wished.
His soul sank into the stele and began refining. For Lin Moyu, the process was not difficult with the Chaos Ancestral Tree supporting him, he had no worries about exhausting his soul force.
Ten Great Dao sublimations, repeated purifications of the soul these had elevated the essence of his spirit, and now the benefits of that were clear.
In a mere hundred days, the Ferry of Tribulation had been fully refined.
At that moment, Lin Moyu learned all of the Ferry's details, finally understanding its level as a treasure.
It was a Chaos Extreme Treasure among Chaos Realm treasures, there were generally three levels: low, high, and extreme.
Low and high grade treasures could be naturally formed or forged by people. But an Extreme Treasure was different Chaos Extreme Treasures were all conceived within chaos itself, and could never be forged by mortal hands.
So it was with the Ferry: it was born from chaos. However, it did not originally look like this it had been altered into this form later by someone else.
If he wished, Lin Moyu could also change its form, but it would take a great deal of time, and he couldn't be bothered.
"The Catastrophic Scepter is a supreme treasure that surpasses chaos, and the Ferry is a Chaos Extreme Treasure both are things it cannot destroy. Furthermore, the Catastrophic Scepter can even threaten it.
"It seems its limits lie here perhaps a little beyond that, but not much more.
"The Chaos Pearl is likely also a Chaos Extreme Treasure, which is why it seeks it to compensate for its own flaws…"
Lin Moyu thought about it and realized that the Catastrophic Supreme had been right "the Dao" was not unbeatable. He absolutely had hope.
Even the Catastrophic Supreme back then had had a chance only he had failed.
But all of this, for Lin Moyu, was still far in the future.
With a thought, he appeared in the palace at the core of the Ferry.
The palace had no name; it was exquisitely built, yet despite the beauty there were many signs of damage.
The Ferry of Tribulation had clearly been through a great battle massive forces had entered here, causing destruction. That force had even wounded the Ferry's body, leaving it with flaws.
Because of that, the Fifth Generation Heavenly Void Palace Master had been able to infiltrate chaos qi here. If the Ferry had been intact, he would never have had a chance.
Scattered throughout the palace were ornaments each one a fine treasure in its own right. At least in terms of material, they were all Chaos Realm grade; used for forging, one could make many fine implements.
When the Ferry was conceived in chaos, it should have been empty inside. Later, when it was acquired and reshaped into the Ferry of Tribulation, these contents had been added statues, palaces, and so on.
Lin Moyu wasn't interested in these materials or in admiring them. With a whoosh, the Wings of Chaos unfurled.
They beat slowly, stirring a breeze and in that wind, flames blazed.
The scattered treasures brushed by the wind ignited, burning in the flames and melting away very slowly, before being drawn by unseen power into the Wings of Chaos.
The intricate patterns on the wings lit up, as though absorbing the strength.
Lin Moyu could feel the wings growing stronger the materials of these Chaos Realm treasures could all be merged into them to enhance their power.
In moments, the palace was a sea of fire; anything that could be refined was burning.
The palace itself was unaffected it had been moved here after being refined by the Catastrophic Supreme, and was a high grade Chaos Treasure, beyond the current refining ability of the wings.
The same was true of a few other treasures present.
At its current strength, the Wings of Chaos could only refine and fuse low grade Chaos Treasure materials.
That was already enough to satisfy Lin Moyu this was a generous inheritance from the Catastrophic Supreme; such treasures were not easy to come by.
Suddenly, the corners of Lin Moyu's mouth twitched. "Don't tell me he planned for this too?"
Thinking about it, that was unlikely if the man could have calculated even the arts Lin Moyu would possess, the Catastrophic Supreme should never have lost back then.
The refining continued the flames roared on. This would take time; it could not be hurried.
Lin Moyu moved to the deepest part of the palace, where there was a massive rupture.
The crack yawned like the maw of some monstrous beast, fissures spreading in all directions until vanishing into the void.
This was where the Ferry had been struck and damaged all those years ago. To damage a Chaos Extreme Treasure to this extent not even a Heaven‑Earth Supreme was necessarily capable. The culprit was obvious.
Even after countless years, remnants of that battle lingered here. Careful sensing revealed to Lin Moyu a terror beyond all things.
It startled him this level of power had not faded even after ages.
As he studied the rift, a glimmer of light appeared within. The residual power there suddenly coalesced into a single point of light.
The Dao's lingering force, after all these years, had not dissipated rather, it had birthed an obsession.
Lin Moyu's arrival roused it; the light point surged in strength, turning hostile toward him.
Without a thought, Lin Moyu raised the Catastrophic Scepter and smashed it down.
Bang! The light point was shattered to nothing.
Against the Scepter, even the Dao's remnant could stir no waves.
Inspecting the rift a while longer, Lin Moyu was certain the Ferry could not be repaired. Born of chaos, these Extreme Treasures were mighty, but once damaged, they were nearly impossible to restore.
Even so, the Ferry remained a defensive treasure. As long as he stayed inside, even a Heaven Earth Supreme would struggle to harm him it was still the best tool for saving his life.
But another notion came to him if his Wings of Chaos grew strong enough to refine the Ferry itself…
Then he could possess its abilities intrinsically; the difference between that and relying on an external object was like heaven and earth. If that could be done, the damage to the Ferry wouldn't matter.
He looked to the top of the palace. There, the fifth gemstone of the Catastrophic Scepter glimmered with a dim gray light.
Flying over, Lin Moyu brought the Scepter to it.
The Scepter shone, all four other gems upon it glowing faintly as they bathed the fifth in light.
"Return to your place," he said quietly.
The gem flew into the Scepter of its own accord, settling into its rightful slot.
In an instant, the Catastrophic Scepter blazed with dazzling brilliance, illuminating the entire palace.
