Chapter 61 - Chapter 61: Morning Jog

Alix enjoys her bath and sleeps peacefully through the night. She wakes up early the next morning as usual and gets ready to take a jog around Pesinwok. It would be the perfect opportunity to explore her once hometown while also getting a decent warm-up in the morning.

She decided to let Mo sleep but does bring Trouler along. He snorts excitedly as he and Alix leave the room. Alix enters the eating area of the tavern and notices that Hedgie is also already up.

"Wow! Up this early, huh? Kent normally can't get up till the morning's already gone! Sit down for a second, I fix you up some breakfast." Alix shook her head.

"I would prefer a snack and some water, actually. I plan on running this morning so I will eat more once I return." Hedgie smiled warmly.

"For sure, sugar. I'll get ya just that." Hedgie walked into the kitchen and within seconds came out with an apple and a waterskin. Alix graciously accepted the supplies.

Hedgie then knelt down and gave Trouler an apple as well. Trouler immediately popped the fruit into his mouth and began munching on it. "I didn't forget about you, with yo' cute self." Alix watched the woman play with Trouler recalling the previous nights events.

"By the way, do you happen to know any place that I can earn some money? Some of my future activities require more funds than I currently possess." Hedgie placed a one of her hands on her chin and thought deeply for a moment.

"I do happen to know this one place that's willing to take on a girl of your type. It's this nice little tavern down in the Port of Filth, that's where all the pirates hang honey. Anyway, the owner is a bombshell and looking for fellow bombshells to work with her part time.

That sound up your alley?" Alix smiled as the woman clearly hinted at wanting her to work here. Alix cleared her throat.

"I see, this sounds like the opportunity of a lifetime. I will definitely do my best despite also attending school." Hedgie shook her head.

"That's what's so great about the position. You can work anytime that you're free! No restrictions! The owner is incredibly kind ain't she?" Hedgie smiled cheekily at Alix.

"She surely is. I would be glad to work there Hedgie. It sounds perfect for me!"

"Oh trust me, the position was almost made for you! It was supposed to be for someone else but that fool didn't even blink before sayin' no! That's why I can't stand young men!" Alix couldn't help but laugh.

She knew exactly who Hedgie was talking about though, she actually had not seen the boy since their first interaction.

Alix finished her witty banter with the woman and left on her run with Trouler. He had managed to finish the entire apple before they even left. Alix ran from the Port of Filth to a street called "Seakeeper Avenue".

It was located on middle layer of the city which locals called the Sea-Level. It is the place where most residents stay so it is home to the most businesses. Alix ran through the streets at a steady pace.

As she passed the few people that were up she overheard some conversations.

"Did you hear, the Suvel Fog was split a few months ago?"

"Really, how?"

"I don't know, but the paper said after it split open a monster came out of it."

"That has to be some sort of bad joke. You don't happen to be a follower of Daligo by any chance?"

"HEAVENS NO! I could never associate myself with those freak jesters! I'm devout to the Path of Redemption and Renewal. May her lady Zina guide us to redemption."

Alix continued running with Trouler clopping beside her. She was scanning each of the buildings she was passing. She was looking for store that would sell magic related items or that she could sell that Ogre skin.

Though she wasn't expecting much as it had been two weeks since she fought the monster and she had no way to preserve the skin to be used. Honestly, she should just learn how to make the catalysts herself.

'It would be much more efficient and cost-effective.' After running around for an hour Alix decided that it was time that she finished her run. She hadn''t found any notable shops during her search so that was somewhat disappointing.

Trouler snorted to get Alix's attention. When Alix looked down to Trouler his eyes shimmered with joy, as though he was saying, "This was at heck ton of fun! Can we do this again sometime? Please!!" Alix felt bliss looking at her cute companion.

"We will be doing this everyday Trouler. You have nothing to worry about." He jumped for joy clicking his little heels together while doing so. This warmed the girl up even more.

While she was distracted by her companion Alix accidently ran into someone and knocked them to the ground. The person grunted as the hit they ground quite hard.

"Pardon me." Alix half-heartedly apologized but didn't stop running for even a moment. The person turned to Alix and shouted after her. "Rude brat! You should apologize properly!" Alix ignored the person.

It took another fifteen minutes for her to get back to the Pirate's Worst Nightmare. The name was honestly beginning to feel welcoming to Alix. She walked into the tavern and greeted Hedgie for the second time that day.

Hedgie put a uniform in Alix's hands and told her that whenever she worked she would need to wear it. Alix nodded and went to take a quick post-run shower. Once clean, she changed into the same outfit as yesterday but freshly washed as Hedgie had cleaned it the previous night.

"Where did you two go this mornin'?" Mo questioned as Alix finished changing clothes.

"We went on a run. You're free to join us but I am quite sure that fish evolved without legs so that they could be more lazy."

"The hell's that supposed to mean!?"

"All you do is float around all day, sleep all morning, and you are completely useless in fight. I would say that you are quite lazy." Mo scoffed.

"I'll have ya know that some predatory fish actually prefer to wait for their prey. Sometimes waiting hours on end for one catch. That shows patience and dedication!"

"No, that shows that they were so lazy that they do not even bother looking for their own food, so they wait for it to come to them like obese lords. Which actually describes you perfectly!" Mo frowned.

"That I'm predatory?" Alix shook her head picked the fish bowl up.

"That you are an obese lord. Now we should go eat before Hedgie gets lonely out there." Mo was stunned into silence by Alix's blatant insult. He was quiet the entire time that everyone else ate breakfast and even when Alix left for school.

Alix sighed. She was beginning to regret her previous joke.

'Mo, I apologize for my joke. I meant no harm by-"

'HAHA! Looks the lord's servant regrets her actions. I guess that you really do revere me, Lexi."

...

I take back my regret.
