"Danger?" Griselda scoffs, pulling her hand away. "They were trying to rescue me, Aidan, don't you understand?! The danger is you in the first place! You're the one who kidnapped them, who locked them away in a cell!" Her anger slowly rising as she looks at him.
"Please calm down, Culver. We've gone through this numerous times, please."
Aidan says stepping closer to her, but she takes a step back. The room feels smaller now charged with her anger.
"Please, Griselda. The dungeons are not as bad as you think. They are not what the stories say. They are not tortured, but are kept safe. I just want them to be out of the way, to not get involved in this mess."
Griselda stares at him, trying to read his expression. She doesn't know if she can really believe him. Every instinct she has screams that he's a liar who has done nothing but cause her pain. But a small part of her, the part that remembers the way he looked at her when he held her, when she healed him, wants to believe him.
