Chapter 45 - Chapter 45 – Eraño as a Witness

Third-person POV

In the streets of Shinjuku, Shu had just finished a horde of 20 zombies with his assault rifle and katana and one flashbang. He did so in 2 minutes and 10 seconds. A squad of the government soldiers were in awe when they saw this "insurgent" of Gen was fighting his own parasites. "This person…" one soldier muttered.

Feeling like being watched, Shu looked at them and pulled up his balaclava. "Oh, buenos tardes, I wasn't like them. I was wearing their attire as a symbol of my atonement of a crime I regretted committing, and to wear this for vibes."

"Sir, is it true Gen-san's organization had stopped attacking and became quiet now?" another soldier asked.

"Yes, sí, evet," responded Shu while glancing at the ruins of the district for a bit, "they realized what they have done and stopped their evil work, working hard to regain their humanity and to redeem themselves. Also, that happened shortly after I had committed this horrible crime against Gen-san. That left me a void I was still filling to this day. Have a good day, sir."

He then pulled back his balaclava and his red-tinted visor.

The squad were stunned and wondered what drove him to commit that crime against Gen, but they were unaware that the YKY managed to acquire a ceasefire with the Japanese SWAT thanks to Eraño's intervention.

Meanwhile, back in his headquarters, staring at a small flat screen in his office, Gen was watching the ending of the zombie movie "World War Z". "It wasn't fair…" he muttered while taking a sip of tea, "…to use a pathogen as a camouflage against the zombies and no cure? It felt incomplete. I really hated this movie."

He then left a bad comment on that YouTube video of a movie and deleted it from his watch history.

Shu arrived back while taking off his helmet and balaclava. "Hey, I'm back…" Gen then looked at him. "Oh, welcome back, how's the situation in Shinjuku?"

"3 blocks were cleared," Shu responded, "Ichiro-san took care of another 2 with Nato-san and his squad. Also, a squad of soldiers were looking me almost like a terrorist. I stated my purpose on wearing this and left a vague detail on my regretted crime against you, amigo."

Gen was surprised at his effort on keeping his own regretted crime against him a secret and nodded. "Wow, thanks."

Shu then smiled at him, and he went into his room. There he revised the script for tonight's 'Peace Treatment'. He added a part where Gen put a blindfold on him before shooting him with that silenced submachine gun and stabbing him with a dagger 5 times. He also prepared a plain shirt and pants for that treatment. At the same time, in another room, Eraño did a Baptist prayer for Shu's safety and peace when he will undergo the black medicine tonight and what it will contain.

Dinner happened at 7 p.m., and by 8 p.m., the ritual happened in the basement. Eraño managed to secure a spot on a secluded corner with a glass partition in front of him. He sat down on a metal chair and took private notes like a closed off journalist. The On the Brink of Death Serum was injected into Shu's arm as a start. As said in the script, Gen wore his organization's red and dark grey attire and gas mask, and he put a blindfold on Shu's eyes. Shu walked around a bit before a flashbang exploded.

Bang!

Shu was disoriented by it but managed not to fall down and then embraced this feeling.

Gen then shot him with a silenced submachine gun like a predator, before lunging at him with a dagger to stab him 7 times.

Shu felt peace behind the blindfold.

Eraño held his breath; his pen was held firmly.

The next set of tonight's rituals was being prepared by Hayate, who was loading an M249 light machine gun with a box magazine of zombie virus-laced bullets, an unexpected genius move by Shu to save up regular bullets for shooting the zombies. Ichiro, meanwhile, was sharpening his katana with a whetstone.

Shing! Shing! Shing!

The sensory sound provided relief for Shu.

Eraño was a witness to this ritual.
