Chapter 59 - Touch of the Divine

"Mi-lord?" Mirabelle managed to ask. "Yes it's me" he answered. "Help me ple-ase" Mirabelle said before a series of coughs escaped her mouth followed by blood.

Sebastian's eyes followed the trail of blood steeping down her mouth, he bit the insides of his mouth as he felt his predator vampire instincts kick in and ready to pounce. Mirabelle on the other hand gasped for air and passed out.

Sebastian's eyes widened but he didn't fret because he could still hear her heart beating, faintly but still beating.

He walked out of the room and saw Nolan waiting at the door. "Try to calm down Nolan, she'd be fine. Let's investigate what happened first okay?" Sebastian coaxed, with a hand on the man's shoulder leading him away from the room.

Sebastian was seated, attentively listening to the accounts of each person. Mister Nolan had also told Sebastian his view on things. Now, it was Helena's turn.

Trembling, she said "Your majesty, I really don't know what happened. All I did was assist senoir Maria in making the cookies. That's all".

Sebastian squinted his eyes, observing the girl's every move and most especially paying attention to the fast beating of her heart. Perks of being a vampire.

"So why didn't any of you go to meet the physician?" Sebastian questioned.

"We didn't think it was really serious milord, it started as a slight cough. We apologise your majesty" Esther said.

"What's so important about her anyway? She's just a gardener's daughter milord, so we didn't take it seriously" another maid admitted.

Sebastian's lips lifted in wicked smile, amused but not surprised. This is one of the reasons he hated humans.

"You dare question the king?" Sebastian stared directly at the maid with a loose mouth.

Sebastian turned to Benjamin who had arrived few minutes ago and Benjamin understood the look, he nodded slightly at a guard who quickly walked up to the center of the fuss and handed the king a dagger.

Sebastian stood up, taking the dagger. He walked towards the maid who was already pleading for forgiveness.

"I apologise milord, it was my mistake, I wasn't wise enough to pick my words carefully, please spare me!" She pleaded.

She grovelled and performed all kind of acts of pleading but the guards quickly held her down to the ground.

Sebastian bent towards her ear and whispered "She's so important because soon she'd rule this kingdom alongside me. But you won't be alive to see that day". With that, Sebastian plunged the dagger deep in her chest. Not once but twice. No one dared say a word.

A loud thud reverberated the large living room as her head landed on the marble floors. Her blood adding another deep crimson color to the floors.

Sebastian gave the dagger back to the guard and Benjamin handed him a kerchief. Wiping his hands clean of the blood, Sebastian said "I will not spare anyone who dares speak without thinking and for whoever is responsible in any way for what happened to Lady Mirabelle" he paused.

"Will wish he or she was never born to begin with" he concluded.

The body of the maid was being dragged out of their midst as the questioning continued.

After some minutes, a physician was already attending to Mirabelle and everyone had been dismissed. Though, Sebastian had ordered Benjamin to continue investigating.

"Milord, my wife would nearly lose her mind if she finds out our jewel was hurt like this. Your majesty I honestly think she was poisoned, I don't not intend to command the crown but I speak only out of love and genuine concern and I'm begging that the whole kitchen be investigated thoroughly" Mister Nolan said.

"Don't worry, it would be taken care of. You may go see her now" Sebastian said and Nolan jolted out of his seat.

"Thank you Milord" he bowed before quickly going to the guest room. Mirabelle was sound asleep but she seemed stable.

Sebastian also went to see her current state only after minutes of Nolan going.

Entering the room, the physician was speaking to Nolan.

"Your majesty" the young man who looked strikingly beautiful greeted. It was the physician. He was such a fine young man that one would wish to fall sick repeatedly just to see his pretty and also handsome face.

Sebastian nodded, accepting the greeting. Nolan stared at the physician and then back at the king. They both shared striking features. If there was anything like a competition for the most handsome man in Denver, the winner will definitely be the king followed by this physician, though it would be a very close call and then Benjamin.

Nolan began wishing his daughter could see again, hoping by chance she could win the heart of this physician, breaking the curse and having beautiful children. Mirabelle was stunning in her own way and her genes with the doctor's would certainly bring beautiful offsprings. Nolan thought.

But the king and this man didn't only share striking features but they exuded almost the same aura.

"I was just explaining to mister Nolan that I've examined lady Mirabelle and found out that what happened was a reaction to something she ate." The physician explained.

"Like an allergy? Or poison?" Nolan questioned.

The physician paused and shared a glance with Sebastian before answering "Something of the sort, she's still under observation but do not fret, she's in stable condition now and should be awake by dawn".

"Nolan, I'd like to speak to the physician alone" Sebastian said. Benjamin and Nolan went out of the room, leaving the two men with Mirabelle.

"Arch Raphael?" Sebastian asked and the physician smiled confirming his suspicion.

Sebastian sighed in slight disbelief. "What do you want?".

Raphael faked a gasp and chuckled. "What do you mean? I healed this lady for you. She was poisoned, though not deliberately. She would wake up in the morning perfectly healthy, you should be happy".

"Perfectly healthy? Does that include her sight?" Sebastian questioned hoping for a positive answer because she had encountered the Divine and her blindness should be been gone too. He thought.

"Unfortunately no, her curse was allowed by father for a reason. It can only be broken by love" Raphael explained.

"That's cliché. But I'd help her see again" Sebastian thought to himself.

"I thought you hated all humans?" Raphael questioned.

"Stop listening to my thoughts!" Sebastian gritted his teeth.

"Besides, I don't hate this one and her family for some reason. I'm keeping her" he continued with his eyes fixated on Mirabelle and a silly smile appeared on Raphael's face.
