I woke up with a realization that I hadn't eaten dinner, or lunch for that matter..
I would get up to make breakfast, as the treehouse even had a fully stocked fridge. How do they have these appliances if this world is supposedly still in a near-medieval era? Don't ask me.
Anywho, waking up felt like leaving heaven. I sluggishly sat up from my curled-up position on the large mattress. And then proceeded to lazily walk to the kitchen.
Making breakfast was a bit difficult. Now, trust me. I can cook, but I haven't I haven't in a long time. So don't blame me for being a little rusty.
The food turned out good. I just made some rice porridge as I was too afraid to accidentally burn the tree if I messed up with the oven.
Lying in soft pillows after taking a warm bath is almost therapeutic, a deep sigh left me. Not one of annoyance but of content.
"Wonder what I should do first.."
I pondered to myself, what should I do? I mean sure I have missions but those don't start for another few months. Unlike before, I have time on my hands.
"Maybe start with the intruders outside miss.."
???!
I was momentarily shocked before recognizing the small androgynous child to be the 'guide' I was to have here.
A Guide is a genderless creature that is made to assist others. Although you shouldn't mistake them for slaves, Guides have free will. And are only bound through a mutual contract. Meaning; that if they don't like you, no guide for you.
Another thing about them is that they are extremely powerful and also extremely intelligent. Tricking them is nigh impossible and forever binding them is impossible.
As beloved children of Gelyk more known as Balance, they are protected by the natural order of this world.
Enough of that though, why is this one so small?
He's fairly similar to me, but that's expected as guides usually appear similar to their hosts. The only difference we share is the color of his eyes, they're a beautiful sapphire color. They almost look like the gem itself.
I looked at the little one and cleared my throat before smiling slightly
"Hello. I am Leilani. What is your name, dear one?
The small guide continued to stare before nodding and introducing themself.
"Ka is Kanggie.. Miss should call him Ka.."
He was rather aloof no? But he's adorable!
I nodded before asking what he meant by intruders.
"What intruders are here Ka?"
He looked down at his hands and began to furrow their brows as if thinking hard.
"Ka remembers! Two humans.. A mouse-human.. And four Elwe."
Elwe..? Oh. Those wretched elf-like beings.
They appear to be elves but they only compare in appearance. I don't have any personal grudges but I dislike how they sometimes trick people into doing unforgivable things.
Well, no time to dwell on that.I go to get changed and get some different clothes for the small guide
"Come with me Ka."
I smile sweetly at him and they nod a bit before taking my hand.
As we make it outside after changing, holding their hand switches to me carrying them after they say their legs are tired.
"Stop right there!"
The larger human yells as we greet them at the stump of the tree.
"I believe I should be asking you to do so, this tree is my home."
He looks at me incredulously, before the small mouse-human comes up beside him and whispers in his ear.
He comes to a realization rather quickly.
"Oh. My apologies miss…"
An apology? What a sweet boy.
"It's alright! Now come inside you lot, have some tea!"
I'm very intrigued by these people.
Especially that larger human. They all have such interesting personalities, not to mention they have huge magic potential.
""Tea?""
In unison, they ask, which leads to Kanggie giggling a little, I just nod before heading back into the treehouse.
I'm already in the kitchen making tea when i seeI see Kanggie run inside the kitchen to whisper in my ear
"We need a cover.. What if they find out Ka is a guide..it will be very bad.."
I realized they were right, we do need a cover but I just couldn't think of any that would work..
The group comes in while I'm pondering. Serving the tea I sat down in one of the chairs around the round table with Kanggie on my lap eating cookies.
"Um..miss.."
The silence is broken by one of the Elwe.
"Yes?"
I raise a brow
"May we know your name?"
I chuckle a bit before setting my glass down and patting Kanggies head.
"Of course you may, but I must know your names in return."
They look at me with mild interest and a little fear. I wonder why?
"Leilani, I am Leilani. And they are-"
I was cut off by Kanggie himself
"Ka is Kanggie, Her son."
Oh. It seems he already came up with a cover for us. Ahh this isn't so bad! I've always wanted a child so it'll be fine.
A small sigh escaped my lips and i moved my eyes from Ka to look at the group.
"Huh?"
They were all looking at me with a confused expression. I wonder why..?
Mm anyway..
"A-ahem. my name is Alcer."
it was the bigger human that said this. he was bold and strong but was intelligent aswell.. great qualities to have i suppose.
I asked the two elwe what their names were and wasn't much impressed.
"I am Celesbi," the girl
"he is Celebrian." she motions to the younger boy. siblings? i thought twins but the boy would have introduced them if they were. As when opposite gender twins are born in Elwe or Elven culture the boy will have more authority.
i nodded and looked at the semi nervous mouse boy.
"Uh.. I am Pluto"
..Pluto? what..oh. OH.
"PLUTO!??"
