The morning sun had barely risen when Ella's eyes fluttered open. She remained lying on the bed for a while, listening to the soft rhythm of the breathing around her. Harvey was still fast asleep beside her while their son lay peacefully between them, one tiny hand resting on Harvey's chest. Across from them, Salvador had unconsciously wrapped an arm around Felix during the night, both men sleeping as though the worries of the world had never existed.
A faint smile curved on Ella's lips.
Moments like these were rare.
Peace had become a luxury they rarely enjoyed, and she wanted to hold onto it for as long as she could.
Carefully, she slipped out of bed without waking anyone. The cold marble floor met her bare feet as she walked quietly towards the window. She drew the curtains apart and rested both hands on the wooden frame.
The gardens stretched beautifully beneath the morning light.
