Chapter 738: Teacher Qing Yanjing
Xiao Ze gazed at the faintly glowing figure before him, immediately recognizing that this was not a living person. It wasn't even a remnant soul merely a fragment of will attached to the token, preserved through sheer force of determination.
The commander before them must have been an exceptionally powerful battle array master in life, possessing extraordinary mental strength. This was likely why his will had endured within the token despite the passage of time and the corruption of demonic energy.
"Greetings, senior. My companion and I were fortunate to slay the Devouring Demon and found this token in its sealed domain," Xiao Ze explained respectfully.
"Excellent! Well done!" The armored figure slammed his thigh in approval, his voice brimming with satisfaction.
"In that sudden, catastrophic battle, my army suffered devastating losses. We were ambushed by that damned Devouring Demon, and my troops were massacred. If only I could have flayed that beast alive!"
The commander's voice was filled with rage, his tone heavy with grief and hatred.
"But alas, you two have avenged me, and I can rest easier now. Unfortunately, I am but a lingering will, incapable of offering you a reward worthy of your efforts."
"Senior, please don't worry about compensation," Xiao Ze quickly replied. "The extraterrestrial demons are the sworn enemies of the Great Thousand World. Destroying them is our duty."
"Haha! With such noble heirs, the Great Thousand World is truly blessed!" the commander said with genuine joy.
His gaze fell on the token, his expression sharpening as he noticed subtle changes in its condition.
"This token… it's been repaired. Are you a spiritual artifact craftsman?"
The sudden question caught Xiao Ze off guard. "I'm not a spiritual artifact craftsman, senior. However, I do have some expertise in alchemy, and I was able to use related principles to repair the token."
The commander's expression lit up with renewed hope. "If that's the case, could you fully restore it? This commander token is connected to the Radiance Hall of the Chaotic God Palace. If you repair it completely, it will guide you to the Radiance Hall. With fortune on your side, you may even inherit its legacy."
"This token has such a function?" Xiao Ze murmured in astonishment. His eyes swept over the token again, now with greater appreciation for its significance. "But much of the original design has been eroded by demonic energy. I wouldn't know how to restore it accurately."
"Haha! Don't worry about that. Who could know this token better than I do?"
The commander's laughter echoed as he lifted his hands, and with a flicker of energy, he conjured a perfect replica of the token out of thin air. Its intricate details shimmered for Xiao Ze to examine.
"This is all I can do to assist you," the commander said, his voice tinged with relief. "I hope you will find the Radiance Hall and perhaps gain its blessings. The Great Thousand World is in dire need of protectors like you."
As his words faded, the faint figure dissolved into nothingness. Xiao Ze and Qing Yanjing both bowed deeply toward the spot where he had vanished, paying their respects to a warrior who had fought and fallen for the Great Thousand World.
Without wasting time, Xiao Ze used the replica token as a reference to carefully restore the original. His hands moved with precision, and golden flames danced as he repaired the damaged sections.
Qing Yanjing stood to the side, her eyes gleaming with intrigue. She had not expected Xiao Ze to possess such talent in alchemy. His skill and concentration were remarkable, and the token quickly regained its former brilliance.
Before long, Xiao Ze injected spiritual energy into the restored token, and a faint guiding sensation tugged at his consciousness.
"It seems the senior's lingering will played a crucial role in making this token functional again," Xiao Ze remarked with gratitude.
"This is incredible," Qing Yanjing said with a hint of excitement. Then her expression shifted as she turned to Xiao Ze. "Wait you're an alchemist?"
Xiao Ze smiled lightly. "I come from a lower plane. Back there, alchemy was my livelihood. My skills as a battle array master were only developed after arriving in the Great Thousand World."
Qing Yanjing's eyes widened in astonishment. "A lower plane? Can you tell me more about your journey?"
Xiao Ze chuckled, storing the chaotic crystals they had collected and handing half to Qing Yanjing.
"Of course. We can talk on the way."
They left the fragmented space and entered the chaotic storm, once again holding hands and using the protective shield formed by their chaotic crystals to withstand the storm's pull.
As they traveled, Xiao Ze recounted his experiences. Qing Yanjing listened intently, her mind racing as she absorbed his tales of struggle and triumph.
"After arriving in the Great Thousand World, I was fortunate to receive help from the Lord of the Daluo Territory. I repaid her with my alchemy skills while learning the ways of spiritual arrays and battle formations. I eventually gained the inheritance of Qing Danzi in the Fallen Battlefield, which helped me ascend to the Earth Sovereign realm."
Qing Yanjing couldn't suppress a gasp of admiration. Compared to Xiao Ze's arduous path, her own journey now seemed uneventful and ordinary.
"Wait," she interjected suddenly, her brow furrowing. "You're a spiritual array master as well?"
Xiao Ze nodded, smiling. "I am, though my skills in spiritual arrays lag behind my battle arrays. I haven't managed to acquire a proper grandmaster level array yet, so my abilities are limited."
Qing Yanjing's eyes lit up. "I have grandmaster level arrays! I can teach you!"
Xiao Ze hesitated, rubbing the back of his neck. "Those arrays are incredibly valuable. I can't accept them without giving something in return."
"Don't be ridiculous!" Qing Yanjing huffed. "Your help earlier was worth far more. What good is an array to me if I'm dead?"
Seeing her determination, Xiao Ze relented with a sheepish smile. "In that case, I'll have to trouble you… Teacher Qing Yanjing."
