Chapter 15 - Chapter 15

[15:My Shot]

Man, these morning classes are so boring. Thank goodness I get a break by going to Recovery Girl's clinic for my little part-time gig. Oh, speaking of that, doesn't this mean All Might won't be weakened, or even more weakened, since he didn't have to fight the Nomu? Hmm…can't wait to see how that plays out, if it even does. Oh, and Midoriya also isn't injured, and Aizawa as well. Recovery Girl and I did a quick check-up on all of them, and I helped fix Aizawa's eyes a little, so he didn't need constant eye drops. According to Recovery Girl, Thirteen is going to be all right, maybe even better because of the medical nanobots.

Technology truly is impressive.

After leaving Recovery Girl's office and eating lunch, it was time for the homeroom, which meant doing student council stuff and needing to be there extra early for some reason. But the people spoke and imposed upon me this great duty.

I entered the classroom, and I was the only one there. The others should be arriving soon enough. Let me get this stuff over with. I'll mark everyone as here, since that's expected. I'll mark the cleaning as done, since Koji is really on top of this stuff; the classroom is sparkly. The other positions don't have anything to do right now, so non-applicable there. Blah, blah, blah, and done; didn't even take 5 minutes. Yeah, this is nothing compared to the paperwork I had to do in my last life.

Alright, just set that on the podium, and done.

Just then, the door opened, revealing Momo.

"Ah, my vice-president, how are you? Are you doing fine after what happened at the USJ?" I greeted her.

"I'm fine. Sorry for arriving late. Do you need help with anything?"

"Nah, I finished everything already."

"So fast?"

"Yeah. I have, uh…some experience in this stuff, and it's not like we have much to do anyway. We're not in charge of some big event…yet."

"Do you know something?" Of course she caught on. But I wasn't really trying to hide it.

"Nope. Let's just wait for everyone else to arrive. Oh, um, did you see anything…graphic during the attack?"

"No. That drone swarm you sent out didn't let us get a good view when they came down in the area I was in."

"I see, I see. That's good. Have you seen Hound Dog?"

"Yeah, I think most of us have. I didn't expect him to be as helpful as he is. I should know better than to judge by appearances."

"Listen, if you're still worried, make your hands busy. I know it sounds weird, but trust me, it works better than you think it does. Relax, I have a feeling we'll get news to lift our spirits up."

"I hope so."

We took our seats and waited for everyone to arrive, which didn't take long. I kept a close eye on Yuga. I know I rattled him up because he acts off when I'm around him. Whenever I look at him, he looks away. He tenses up when it looks like I'm going to talk to him. Good, good, I'll exploit this later if I have to.

Once we were all here, Aizawa walked in. This time, he looked completely fine, not covered in a bunch of bandages like a mummy. He looked a bit better. He still had those eye bags, but the eyes themselves were nice and right. It was a weird contrast from how the rest of his face looked.

"Good afternoon, class. I hope you used your time wisely, because we have something important ahead of us. It's the sports festival."

I covered my ears because the class went into an uproar about this. Everyone was excited. Eijiro was screaming about manliness, Mina was her bubbly self, Midoriya was already panicking about the whole thing, some were way too serious, someone was a tad bit too violent—Bakugo. Some were brooding—Fumikage. Shoto was…also brooding. Guess he's a bit too busy thinking about getting abused by that arrogant piece of shi—

"Eleanor! Are you also excited‽" Mina excitedly asked me. I like her cheerfulness, but maybe it can be a bit too much. Well, actually, what's wrong with a girl being excited while talking to you?

I uncovered my ears once the initial excitement died down a little. "Yeah, I look forward to it, Mina."

"Excuse me, but is it a good idea to hold this event so soon after villains attacked the USJ?" Momo asked as she raised her hand.

"Don't worry, we've increased security by a substantial amount compared to previous years," Aizawa responded.

You know, I could also help with security. A couple of spy drones in the air, a couple of drones for cyberwarfare to scan phones, computers, networks, or anything similar to extract a bunch of data and interfere with signals to extract personal information from people, and analyze the data to make a profile of potential high-risk individuals and monitor communications for any threats.

Is this legal? As I've said before, just do it and then argue about it later. Is it immoral and unethical? Mhmm…that's up for debate. I'm no stranger to doing this kind of stuff, though; I have experience with this. I could just say what every country on Earth says when they do stuff like this. "It's all for the sake of security."

I'll jot this down just in case.

"Use this opportunity to get noticed by heroes around the country. You'll only get a few chances during your time here at U.A. Use your time wisely to prepare. That will be all."

Finally, time to leave. Wait, won't there be a mob outside? Nope, I'm not dealing with that. I got up and went to one of the windows.

"Eleanor, what are you doing?" Aizawa asked.

"Nothing much. I'm just gonna test out my highjump" I opened the window and looked down. Hmm…judging from this distance…I'll be fine. I climbed and then jumped quickly before anyone could stop me.

I could hear the shouts as soon as I did. I think they thought they witnessed a suicide attempt, but I'm fine. I rolled as soon as I hit the ground and stood back up. I looked back up from the window I jumped out of and waved at them to let them know I'm fine.

There was a mix of shock, surprise, and relief. Well, it's up to them to deal with that mob. I'm the kind of person who wants to go home as soon as possible after class ends.

I patted down my uniform and fixed it up before I started walking back to my dorm.

It's time for the sports festival; two weeks until it starts. Of all the times to show off, this is the best moment. I'm a foreign exchange student, and as part of that, I'm expected to represent my country—the United States of America.

Now, look, I'm not the kind of person who goes around saying America number one, America does this better, American this is better than non-American that, I don't go around hating on another country just because it's a different country, I'm not nationalistic, and stuff like that.

However, when it comes to sporting events like the Olympics, or in this case, the sports festival, I'm a different person. I bleed red, white, and blue. I radiate patriotism and bald eagles. The star spangled banner is my background music. I have a hamburger in one hand and a machine gun in the other. Eagle—red-tailed hawk—screeches come out of my mouth.

If the sports festival is the most-watched sporting event in the world in this era, I have to look good and represent well. I have to be like Michael Phelps, Katie Ledecky, Carl Lewis, Simone Biles, Bonnie Blair, Chloe Kim, Allyson Felix, Kurt Angle, and all the great American athletes who've represented us well in sports! No American has won this thing, right?

I've decided! I'll be the first American to win the U.A. Sports Festival! My loyalty will be to America at this sports festival! I have a shot to do something historic here in being the first American to win this thing!.

What I'm saying is...I am not throwing away my shot.
