The dim candlelight danced across the silk sheets, casting soft shadows on the walls of Renner's private chamber. The silence that followed was heavy—not awkward, but thoughtful.
Renner lay beside me, her golden hair fanned across the pillows, her usually calculating eyes half-lidded with satisfaction and curiosity.
I turned to her, my arm resting beneath my head. "Do you want to scream now?" I asked, teasingly.
Her lips curled into a languid smile. "I don't scream," she replied, breath still slow. "At least, not where the guards can hear."
We both laughed quietly, but there was something else in her gaze now—more than amusement or victory. She was assessing me again, this time with a different lens.
"You didn't hesitate," she said. "Even knowing what this might cost you."
"It wouldn't have cost me anything," I said simply. "They wouldn't have made it past the threshold before falling dead. You're not the only one who plays games, Renner."
She tilted her head toward me, curiosity once again gleaming. "You keep speaking like that… like you truly are untouchable. That you come from somewhere I can't even reach."
I looked at the canopy above us, the ceiling painted with gold leaf and ancient royal sigils. "That's because I do."
Renner studied my face in silence. "So… were you serious? About being a king? About Nazarick?"
I nodded. "I wasn't lying to impress you. I don't need to."
She looked away again, eyes narrowing slightly. "Then what's your endgame? Why tell me all this?"
I leaned back, arms behind my head, looking at the canopy above. "Because I won't be staying in this world much longer."
She turned sharply toward me. "What?"
"I've seen enough," I said, voice casual. "This world was interesting at first, but I've outgrown it. There's another world waiting—one filled with real adventure, chaos, opportunity. I plan to leave soon."
Her eyes sharpened again. "Another world. You speak as if they're nothing more than books on a shelf to browse."
"To me, they are," I said honestly. "But I'm not heartless. I still carry people with me. Allies, lovers, memories."
She looked at me carefully, folding one arm under her head. "And what happens to me when you go?"
I smiled gently. "That's up to you."
Renner blinked. "What?"
"If you're truly interested… I can bring you to Nazarick," I said, turning to face her fully. "You don't have to take my word for anything. Come see it. See *me*—not as a noble adventurer or political pawn, but as the Lord of Nazarick."
She didn't reply immediately, and her breath hitched ever so slightly. I continued, "There's a permanent portal connecting this world to my base. It won't close. You can use it whenever you like, if you want to visit me."
She watched me with an unreadable look. I could see her mind racing through possibilities, dangers, and opportunities. "You'd let me come and go freely?"
"I trust you," I said simply. "I'm not a fool—I know what you are. But I also know you'd never betray a force greater than your kingdom. You're too smart for that."
A flicker of something danced in her eyes—acknowledgment, perhaps even respect.
"…Evileye," she said suddenly, as if remembering something. "Back before we left for the dwarven kingdom, I saw her reaction to you. It was subtle, but she looked… afraid."
I gave a short chuckle. "She sensed something."
"What exactly are you?" she asked, voice quiet now, almost reverent.
I looked into her golden eyes. "I am the Lord of all Bloodlines."
That name hung in the air, thick with weight and implication. She stared, trying to grasp the scope of it.
"All races?" she asked.
"All. My blood carries the essence of dragons, demons, angels, devils, monsters, even gods. A culmination of what should not be possible. That's what Evileye sensed. Not a single monster… but the convergence of all that walks and crawls and flies."
Silence settled once more, broken only by her slow exhale.
"…You're terrifying," she said finally. "And yet, I feel safer next to you than I do with anyone in this kingdom."
I closed my eyes for a moment. "That's because, in all your life, no one has ever truly had the power to protect you. Only the pawn for you to use."
Her fingers gently traced the line of my chest. "Then perhaps it's time I saw this Nazarick for myself."
I smiled without opening my eyes. "Whenever you're ready."
