Muzanette
As the swirling portal closed behind the intruders, silence fell over the Infinity Castle, broken only by the faint sound of dripping blood. The walls, once alive with shifting geometry and teeming with her loyal demons, now stood motionless. The once-vibrant hub of her domain had become a graveyard.
She couldn't stop trembling.
Her mind raced, replaying the encounter over and over again. It wasn't just the power they had displayed—no, it was the sheer casualness of it. That silver-haired monster, Shalltear, had cut through her strongest demons like they were nothing. Muzanette had ruled for centuries, terrorizing and commanding her kin with absolute authority. She had never seen such overwhelming might, not even from the Demon Slayer Corps.
And then there was him.
Alexander. The one she had thought would be her greatest threat, the one who had effortlessly dismantled her hold over this region, was an enigma. He hadn't lifted a finger during the massacre. He didn't need to. His presence alone had reduced her to a trembling wreck, her instincts screaming at her to run, to submit, to kneel.
Muzanette clenched her fists, trying to steady herself, but her legs felt like they would give out at any moment.
"I can't win against him," she whispered to herself, the words tasting bitter on her tongue. Her pride as the ruler of demons rebelled against the thought, but she couldn't deny the truth.
Her gaze swept over the remains of her once-proud subordinates. Upper Moons, beings who had served her loyally for centuries, reduced to piles of flesh and ash. Even Douma, with his annoyingly smug demeanor and unshakable confidence, hadn't lasted more than a few seconds against Shalltear's assault.
Muzanette bit her lip, drawing blood, as anger began to simmer beneath her fear. This was no longer just about survival. Alexander had humiliated her—not by attacking her directly, but by treating her like an afterthought. Even Shalltear, who had radiated pure bloodlust, had been restrained by his mere words.
"I am nothing to him," she realized with a sinking feeling.
For the first time in her long existence, Muzanette felt powerless. She had always been the predator, the one pulling the strings. Now, she was the prey.
Her crimson eyes glowed faintly as she considered her options. She couldn't fight him, that much was clear. But submitting entirely wasn't an option either; her pride as a demon wouldn't allow it.
"If I can't defeat him… I'll outlast him," she murmured, her voice trembling but resolute.
Muzanette turned to the few surviving demons who had remained hidden during the slaughter. Their faces were pale, their fear mirroring her own. For the first time, she felt no desire to punish them for their cowardice. Instead, she saw them as pawns—tools she would need to rebuild her forces.
"Gather what's left," she commanded, her voice regaining a fraction of its usual authority. "We need to regroup."
The demons hesitated but obeyed, scurrying to salvage whatever they could from the ruins of the Infinity Castle. Muzanette's mind worked feverishly. She needed time to strategize, to find a way to deal with Alexander and his minions. Perhaps she could exploit his kindness—or whatever strange code of conduct had led him to spare her.
But deep down, she knew the truth.
"I can't win against him," she repeated, the words sinking deeper into her heart like a curse.
Muzanette inhaled deeply, forcing herself to stand tall despite the shaking in her limbs. If nothing else, she would survive. She would adapt, evolve, and find a way to reclaim her throne—not just as the ruler of demons but as a being who could one day stand in the presence of Alexander without crumbling under the weight of his power.
For now, she would retreat, bide her time, and ensure her survival.
Her eyes narrowed as she stared at the blood-soaked ground where Shalltear had stood moments ago. A flicker of resolve replaced the terror that had consumed her.
"You may have spared me today," she whispered. "But I will not remain weak. I will rise again, stronger than before. And you will look at me."
