Chapter 292 - Chapter 291 - City of Yokohama 01.

[Chapter Size: 2200 Words.]

Third Person POV

Japan.

...

...

Yokohama was one of the cities very close to the capital, and at that moment, the city was filled with destruction, while people hid in various places — in their homes or in makeshift shelters, with the giant roaming through all areas of the city in the past few days.

In a corner of the city, a mother and daughter hid amid all that devastated scenery.

"Do you think daddy is okay? He still hasn't come back..." The girl, who was six years old, couldn't help but say to her mother.

"Your father did this yesterday, he will come back soon..." The woman said, trying to calm her daughter.

They were hiding inside an apartment on the third floor. There was no one else in the building. This was the family's own apartment, where they had stayed in the last few days.

And it was at that moment when a man unlocked the door and quickly entered the place with a bag of food from the abandoned market.

The woman immediately stood up and looked at her husband with relief. "You finally arrived," she said, with their six-year-old daughter in her arms.

"Daddy!" said the girl, relieved to see her father enter their home safely.

"I managed to get into the market, but the place was more devastated than yesterday... the food will run out soon if more people are taking things... And the city is completely empty now, everyone is hiding." He said with some concern.

"Anyway... I brought some food. We'll have to wait for the rescue until this food runs out, otherwise we'll need to leave here and look for another shelter..." the man murmured, never taking his eyes off the devastated city through the open bedroom window.

As soon as the giant monster finished destroying the neighboring city, its next target would be Yokohama. Immediately, the whole place went on alert, with the army mobilizing the population to evacuate, but not everyone managed to leave.

This family was one of those who ended up trapped. They had been there for more than three days, while the giant devastated the entire city since it arrived.

The woman took the package, looking for something for her daughter and herself to eat, while the man opened a bottle of water and began drinking as he looked toward the window. He continued to watch the city with caution.

"I wonder if we'll get out of here… this feels like hell," he murmured, placing the transparent water bottle beside him as he sighed.

"We will. The army will send a rescue soon. We just have to wait for the giant to leave. There aren't so many people here anymore, it has to go to other cities, right?" the woman said cautiously.

"I'm scared, mommy…" the girl murmured as she ate. The woman couldn't help but look worried.

"Everything will be okay, my love..." she said, stroking the girl's hair as she held her in her arms.

A helicopter sound emerged above them in the next moment. The man looked in all directions, watching the aircraft move toward the center of the city. At first, it was an army helicopter searching for the giant. However, it did not continue forward — it turned to the left, heading in another direction, which could indicate where the giant was.

The helicopter may have left the man's field of vision, but the sound of its blades never faded.

The girl, still receiving her mother's affection, looked at the bottle her father had placed beside them, on top of a desk in her parents' bedroom. Suddenly, it began to shake slightly, the water rippling on the surface.

The girl stared at it as the water continued trembling rhythmically.

"Mama…" the girl called out immediately.

"What is it?" the mother asked, worried, seeing her daughter begin to tremble, her eyes fixed on the bottle.

"He's here…" was all she said. Even the father looked frightened.

"What…?" he murmured, looking at the bottle, which shook again, making the man turn pale.

In the next moment, they finally began to hear the giant's footsteps, making the ground tremble. The helicopter had returned closer to the building — which meant the monster was very close to them.

"No…" he murmured, looking toward the building's window.

It didn't take long for the giant to finally appear in the middle of the street. Its body was over forty-five meters tall, making any person look like a dwarf. It moved between the buildings, pressing down on the streets and crushing parked cars and anything in its path.

"Stay silent. Don't make any noise. He's just going to pass by and leave," he said urgently as he closed the windows, leaving only a small gap to see the giant and confirm that it had really gone.

His wife and daughter felt fear overwhelm them while the man continued watching the giant make the ground shake with each step as it moved down the street. Then, suddenly, it stopped in front of their building and began sniffing the air. The man began trembling, knowing exactly what that meant — it had found them.

He immediately left the window and turned toward his wife and daughter.

"Let's go, quickly! Now!" he said in an urgent tone, already running toward the center of the building.

What they did not expect was that, halfway there, the window would be destroyed by a gigantic hand, which broke through the entire wall, shattering the bricks as if they were toy pieces. The child and mother screamed while the man tried to protect them. His eyes turned toward the new opening, watching the giant bend down and stare at them with hungry eyes.

"No!" the woman screamed.

The three were completely frozen before those eyes that watched them as if they were food. It had found them. And there was no building or shelter that could protect them now that the giant had marked them as prey.

The child began to cry, the mother pulled her close against her chest, and the father remained paralyzed, staring at that creature. Why? Why were they being attacked by such monstrous beings coming from the Tokyo portal? Was it a punishment from God? Or something even worse?

The helicopter flew over the giant.

"Damn it! The giant is in the urban area again! He still hasn't left… It looks like he found survivors and is hunting again!" said one of the men in the helicopter, worried.

At the same time, something advanced at extremely high speed toward the city. Suddenly, surprising both the family and the soldiers in the helicopter, a lightning bolt came down from the sky, striking the giant's back so fast that they only saw the flash — and then the deafening boom, followed by the monster's scream as it staggered to the side, its knees hitting the asphalt and cracking it as it roared in pain.

"What…?" One of the men in the helicopter could hardly believe it. Whatever that was, it had injured the giant — something no one had managed to do until then. They looked toward the point of impact, but all they saw was something flying at high speed and crashing at the end of the street, exploding the ground upon landing.

Severus had just entered the city flying through the sky. He emerged from the hole created by his emergency landing, saw the giant in the distance entering his sensory range — and attacked it, managing to wound it so that the family wouldn't be harmed.

He looked at the giant trying to recover at the end of the street and also confirmed that the family was indeed in the center of the building, moving farther and farther away from the window after the thunderous strike had knocked the giant down.

The giant would no longer pay attention to them as it began to rise again, turning toward Severus on the other side of the street.

But Severus's eyes quickly changed. Immediately, he raised his hand, pointing toward someone sitting on a rock beside him, while his staff began to glow.

"How are you here, Steve Vujin?!" Severus roared in a dangerous tone, and the staff seemed to respond to his anger. The man who was there, with no explanation for being beside Severus, sat on a rock watching.

He began to respond to Severus by raising his hands.

"You don't need to get upset. I'm not your enemy here, Severus Prince," he replied, but the wizard was not convinced in the slightest.

"How did you get here first?" Severus murmured. He had been in the middle of the press conference in front of the Japanese Ministry of Magic, and now he was there, exactly where Severus was.

Severus should have sensed any magical distortion in the air, but he found nothing on this man — he had simply appeared there… The man only gave a mysterious smile.

"I have my tricks, you know. I recently retired as an investigator in England. Now I'm taking on a new field. What do you think? Reporter for the Quibbler." He began.

"I will be covering firsthand your progress throughout Japan, fighting the giants. I promise I won't get in the way," he said, showing a friendlier smile.

"What are you? I know you're not human. You have something to do with a man called Architect, don't you?" Severus said slowly.

The man continued smiling, but he didn't seem to hide that Severus's suspicions were correct.

"Well… the Architect was a fool. That's all I can say. But I am not your enemy, Severus. I'm only here to appreciate you fighting giants and saving Japan. Meanwhile, people around the world will know what you've done through my reports. Doesn't that sound like a good deal?" he said.

But Severus narrowed his eyes. "I don't trust you."

The man didn't seem offended. "I figured as much. But I find your behavior quite reasonable, given all the circumstances."

Severus raised his other free hand and clenched his fingers, using the Ruler's Domain. As soon as he tried to force the man to kneel before his telekinesis, he felt something strange. The man was completely immune to the attack. His telekinesis simply had no effect on him. The man watched Severus with an amused look.

"How…?" Severus murmured. He now had ten thousand intelligence points, but before that man it felt like nothing — which darkened his expression even more.

"Who are you?" he asked again.

"As I said, I'm not your enemy, Severus. I'm here only to do reporting. I won't interfere with anything. I believe that's enough for us not to attack each other," he said calmly.

Severus wanted to say more, but the giant's roar drew his attention. The creature glared at him with rage, like an uncontrollable animal. It completely ignored the wound on its back, where blood still gushed out — which surprised the army personnel who watched everything in shock. The giant had never been injured before, but that lightning had wounded it.

The monster prepared to charge at the man at the end of the street, and that drew the helicopter crew's attention.

"Who is that?!" someone pointed to the end of the street. They still hadn't received the news about the man who had come from the magical world to help them.

"And the other one beside him? Who are they? Did one of them launch the attack that injured the giant?" one of the soldiers commented, still stunned by the situation.

Suddenly, the giant charged, cracking the ground as it ran toward Severus in fury. The wizard remained in the middle of the street, looking calmly at the creature, showing no fear.

He struck the staff against the ground and began sensing the entire area, mapping the hidden people. There wasn't just that family in the surrounding buildings, but also others in different places. Immediately, Severus cast a spell across the entire city.

And all the people began teleporting, being pulled to a safe location on the other side of the city — without even understanding what had happened. They ended up in a secure place.

Severus turned back toward the giant that was running toward him. Steve seemed excited and stepped away, grabbing his camera to film the clash. Severus grew irritated by that but soon ignored it.

He made the staff disappear and remained with his bare hands, clenching his fist tightly as his feet pressed against the ground.

In the next moment, he launched himself forward, tearing the ground apart as he propelled himself, advancing at extremely high speed toward the giant, who was also running at him.

Severus jumped before the giant could react and appeared right in front of the creature's face. He drew his fist back, enveloped in a purple aura of mana. In the next instant, he punched the giant with such force that the creature's face distorted, being violently thrown backward.

The colossus was hurled against the buildings beside them, exploding them with the impact, collapsing them as debris and explosions piled one after another, with the giant's body cutting through the concrete as if it were paper.

"Wow… this will make a great cover!" exclaimed Steve Vujin, standing back, using his old camera to film everything while he began writing, watching Severus land on the ground after the blow that sent the giant flying.
