Chapter 271 - The first warning

While I was resting within the healing coffin word reached the city from the spirits watching the sealed black dragon, it was stirring. The news shook the city to it's core even more than the update Hestia gave the guild about my level up. Make no mistake that still raised a massive amount of disbelief and amazement but after my victory over the two ancient calamities and Ottar nobody was overly surprised. It was only natural however that news of the black dragons awakening would totally overwhelm my level up news though.-

The near apocalyptical power of that beast being something "fresh" relatively speaking in the minds since it had only been about a decade and a half at most since it wiped out the top familias. I finally knew why I was so anxious about rushing my level up now. This was seriously bad news. Orario was going to likely be the first or one of the first places the beast would come once it finally fully awakened. The news was vague about how long that would take so I at most had an indeterminable amount of time to prepare for it. There was at least one upside to this grave scenario in that I now knew where the beast was located and could set traps between Orario and it.-

The beast was apparently located in a massive valley to the far south between three mountains. If it headed in a straight line for Orario after waking up fully it was going to be at least somewhat inconvenienced with the stuff I was going to put between the city and it's valley. Spatial distortions, temporal loops, anti-dragon attributed honing spears and arrows, hellfire bombs, acid spewers, the works.-

Every little petty, unethical or otherwise idea that might be able to so much as tickle or stall the thing was getting made at no expenses spared. Between being stingy and the city being erased and going all out for even a fraction of a percent better odds I'll take the later without hesitation. I let this be known too as I tasked everyone in the familia to spread the word that I'd be making preparations for the dragon and needed people to collect the finished products and get to setting them up. I wasn't the only one either.

Freya, Hephaestus, Loki, Ganesha and dozens of other gods stepped forward to join hands in alliance against the dragon. All hostilities put aside for the time and true cooperation being the name of the game as we all agreed to assist the others in their preparations. Once the third day came I leapt out of the coffin and burst into work in my workshop. I forged hundreds of arrows with cursed techniques for honing and anti-dragon natures all while layering on strict restrictions to up their power as much as possible. Single use, harmless against anything not draconic, a one year lifespan even if not used. I even sacrificed my own flesh, blood and bone during the creation of these arrows.-

I didn't skimp on materials either as each arrow head was forged from the bones of either the Hundred hands giant or Jotun. I created automatically reloading and targeting crossbow turrets with draw weight of well over a ton for these arrows as well. If I didn't add a restriction that they could only use the anti-dragon arrows more than a few people transporting them to an area in the dragons predicted path might have made one or two "go lost" along the trip.-

The same could be said for the cursed ballistae I made to launch anti dragon spears as well since these had a draw weight of several tons. The preliminary test proved that the projectile spears launched from it crossed the sound barrier and not by a small amount. The hellfire bombs I created had to be entrusted to Bell and the others for delivery and installation in hidden areas along the predicted path since they couldn't be restricted like the ballistae and crossbow turrets. The same was true of the toxic acid spewers like massive long barreled artillery cannons but with chemical warcrimes loaded instead of explosives.-

The spatial distorters and temporal loopers were made and installed by me personally at various locations along the estimated flight path that would be the choicest spots for the other traps to work. If the weapons made people almost drool these things caused a cold terror to grip hearts. Weapons could be understood and handled but nobody knew how to counter time and space themselves turning on you. Time in particularly was a nasty one as if you were trapped in a loop like the ones I set up you might not even realize it until too much time has passed yet your surroundings seemed to never end.-

The space traps were unlikely to work if I was being honest with how sturdy and conceptually powerful the beast was but the very space around it being in chaos should at least prove annoying at least. Think of it like many different forces working on your form in a billion different directions at once. I set up gravity wells, air solidification walls, hallucination gas clouds. A small army of demonic skeleton golems with wings and a massive hatred for dragons. I went all out until I was politely begged to stop by Ouranos after he learned of the horrors I was churning out for the dragon.-

Hermes looked downright timid in my presence at this point as he read the full report on exactly what I had prepared for the dragon. If anyone other than myself know about my absolute, last case, break glass in case of apocalyptical dragon in city plan I'd probably be lynched. Honestly I wouldn't even be upset about it as even I REALLY didn't like it but desperate times and all that.
