Chapter 46 - Hand of Mercy

On that same day as Chara, Frisk had laid on the opposite end of the field of flowers. Neither had recognized the other within their moments there, it had simply been a coincidence that this could be a place they both enjoyed. When they had reached the surface this had been a spot Chara and Asrtiel had shown her and one she had come to love herself. Not only for its beauty but what it meant to her. It was a place of childish hopes and dreams, of a sad tale that had finally come to a satisfying end. Other things which she could not even fully put into words but would put a great smile upon her own face. It felt fitting that this be where she starts her next big adventure. It may not aid her body in any way, but it would brighten her soul many times higher.

The eyes of the girl stared into the sun unbothered even by its unfathomable brightness. She could enjoy something that seemed so harsh and so extreme finding the beauty within it. That's the part which really mattered. A hand reached out towards the star as if she could really touch it. To grasp that warmth and that harsh yet necessary comforting power would be a wonder she couldn't even dream of.

When her hand reached out, she didn't feel air, nor the sun. It was something of warmth which could be deemed far more human yet still foreign in its touch. This wasn't anyone she had known yet it felt like the touch of a friend or one you'd grown to love. Someone so noteworthy and grand you wouldn't be able to help but appreciate them.

A ripple in space itself seemed to open and a figure would be revealed to Frisk. One which grasped their hand into their own and looked at them with a certain peace about themselves. A genuine gentle smile which could disarm anyone.

This ethereal being seemed to take the form of a rather small girl covered in leaves and branches in place of clothing that snugly wrapped around their features. Her hair whitened with strands of green sprouting from the messy style of hair. And when they spoke their voice seemed as soft and elegant as their figure leaving no mistake on what they were.

"Frisk, I've been expecting to see you. For a long time in fact now. I've watched you go about on your journeys, I have seen your struggles, I have seen your battles. Most of all I have seen your unwavering kindness in face of it all. Many people would believe you to be an anomaly that could never possibly exist, and yet here you are. You're quite wonderful."

Frisk looked at the woman with silence floating about the air between them as her words had settled within them. After a time she would speak back in an equally calm manner. Something like this which seemed so fantastical had not even been of consequence to her.

"How flattering it is, but it's a bit rude you speak of my name and don't even tell me yours. I enjoy pleasantries but I feel there is another purpose in your visit. Please make it swift. I have more troubles to face."

The other would simply nod their head in understanding. Letting go of Frisk's hand she allowed her bare feet to touch the ground instead of strangely being suspended within space.

"My apologies, you may call me Ninchi. And you are correct, I have a purpose for my arrival, let me be less indirect with my words. I am here to help and I have recognized your potential Frisk. You will be my avatar of hope within this world. One to keep the balance that must be."

Frisk looked upon her. Simply she gazed at the woman up and down, inspecting her once more, perhaps a check of her person.

"I see… whatever this is I have no qualms in being. If that doesn't impede and instead helps what I want to do. I trust you will not deceive me. I ask who you are, Ninchi. Beyond your name to make such a statement."

Ninchi made a small smirk on her face and a small huff of air escaped her. The girl had been amused by Frisk. "Your curiosity is certainly unmatched, and you ask all the great questions. I am the hope which exists in this world and all worlds. At least I exist to bring upon it in the balance of hope and despair. Such as those who balance positivity and negativity as a whole. And there are those of creation and destruction. All opposite forces within this world have things and entities to carry them out, I am one, and you will be too."

Frisk looked blankly at the girl and turned her head from side to side as if waiting for or trying to find something else within the area. There was something she didn't seem to get here and put her somewhat on edge.

"That's it? Is there going to be some sort of challenge or test for me to become such a thing? It seems all too easy and convenient to be true. It would almost be disappointing."

Ninchi made a dismissive humph and waved her hand away at Frisk's words as if to say they were of no matter at all. Her hands now planted onto her hips speaking quite proudly.

"What trials or challenges could be needed for someone like you. You've already proven yourself plenty of times over. A god has been bested at your hand and you live on. You have already completed a trial no other has and freed the monsters from their prison. That already is a symbol of the hope you encompass. And if you say you really need a challenge, upon gaining this title you will have much to learn, not all is intuitive."

Frisk looked towards Ninchi. Well this certainly was something, but she wasn't exactly going to reject something like this, especially not in the current climate they were within. She nodded her head up and down. "I'll take upon this role you wish for me. And I'll do my best to make it worth it. You can count on me.
