Pneumonia.

In his original world, whether it was a medical ninja using healing ninjutsu or Kaito himself employing dragon vein energy or spiritual power, curing such an ailment would be a simple matter of eliminating the infection.

However, Kaito had no intention of revealing any supernatural abilities in front of this lumberjack family. Thus, he had to rely on conventional medicine to treat the illness.

Truth be told, pharmacology wasn't his forte, but thanks to the vast knowledge he had inherited, he could approach the problem from a higher perspective.

After identifying the condition of Ichirou's wife, he thought for a moment and began formulating a prescription.

Aiming for a quick recovery, he focused on the essential components needed to treat the illness, disregarding traditional pharmacological conventions.

The resulting prescription was bizarre, including not only common herbs but also toxic plants, animal organs, and blood.

One could imagine what the final concoction would look like—likely only slightly less horrifying than Shima's infamous soup.

However, the Tokito family was completely ignorant of pharmacology.

Kaito had assumed that Ichirou, who had personally gathered herbs, might know a thing or two about medicine and was prepared to explain the odd prescription. To his surprise, Ichirou accepted it with unwavering trust in his lifesaver, overjoyed.

Feeling a bit guilty, Kaito accompanied Ichirou into the mountains to gather several portions of the required herbs.

"This should be enough for about five days. By then, she should be fully recovered," Kaito said.

Despite the Tokito family's warm insistence, Kaito used an illusion to politely decline dinner. He then processed the herbs, dividing them evenly into ten portions before taking his leave.

During the preparation, he infused the herbs with a bit of spiritual energy to enhance their efficacy—a small gesture to repay the family's genuine warmth.

"Mr. Uchiha, it's dark out. It's not safe to travel at night. Please stay here tonight and head back tomorrow!" Ichirou pleaded earnestly.

"Yeah, yeah, Mr. Uchiha, please stay!" Muichiro grabbed his hand, looking up with sparkling eyes.

Even Yuichiro, who always tried to maintain a serious demeanor, spoke up. "I'll go prepare a bed!" he said, turning to rush back into the house.

"Found you! You're the one, aren't you? The one Lord Muzan ordered us to find!" a hoarse, grating voice suddenly rang out from the forest outside.

"Heh heh heh… I'm in luck! If I capture you and offer you to Lord Muzan, he'll surely grant me more of his blood!"

"Who's there?!" Ichirou immediately grabbed the lumber axe leaning against the wall, standing protectively in front of his two sons.

"My apologies, Tokito," Kaito said, stepping forward. "It seems I've brought trouble to your doorstep. Get the children inside."

"Go!" Ichirou quickly pulled his younger son toward the house.

"No! I want to protect Dad and Mr. Uchiha!" Muichiro protested, breaking free from his brother's grip and running to grab another axe from the wall.

"What are you doing, Muichirou?!" Yuichiro snapped, nearly furious at his brother. "Don't cause trouble for the adults!"

"Here it comes," Kaito's voice interrupted.

The father and sons instinctively looked at his back, sensing a profound change in him.

In that moment, they felt an overwhelming aura of strength emanating from him.

At the same time, a monster emerged from the forest.

Under the pale moonlight, they clearly saw the creature's bulging muscles, sharp claws, fangs, and two horns protruding from its head.

A gust of night wind carried the demon's thick stench of blood and rot, making them gag.

"W-What is that…?" Ichirou's voice trembled, but he gripped his axe tightly with one hand while quickly pushing his sons behind him with the other.

"My apologies," Kaito said, his tone laced with regret. "Because of me, you've had to witness such an ugly thing."

He walked forward, locking eyes with the demon, his voice turning cold. "Did Muzan order all demons to search for me? Did he also tell you why he's after me, or that three of his Upper Rank demons have already fallen by my hand?"

"You… who are you…?" The demon clearly sensed the powerful aura emanating from Kaito and realized this target was beyond his ability to handle. Panic set in, and he turned to flee.

"It doesn't matter! As long as I report your location, Lord Muzan will reward me!" the demon shouted, sprinting toward the forest.

"Bind" Kaito's voice rang out behind him.

The demon stumbled, his body lurching forward as if tripped.

"Damn it! Blood Demon Art—"

Before he could counterattack, several translucent chains wrapped tightly around him.

Then, a few glowing paper talismans traced faint arcs through the air, exploding silently beside him.

Golden sunlight gently descended, and the demon turned to ash amid a shrill scream.

"Sorry, I have no interest in Blood Demon Arts anymore," Kaito said calmly.

He turned back to see three pairs of wide, sparkling eyes staring at him.

"P-Please… are you a mountain god?" Muichiro peeked out from behind his father, looking at Kaito with awe.

Kaito sighed and walked over to the Tokito family, patting Muichirou's head. "I am Uchiha Kaito, a Onmyōji, to be precise." His gaze shifted to Ichirou. "Now, I have something important to discuss with you."

Inside the house, Kaito first explained the existence of demons to the Tokito family.

"My deepest apologies. The progenitor of demons can sense everything his demons perceive, which means your home is no longer safe," he said, looking at Ichirou. "So, Mr. Tokito, would you consider relocating? I'll make all the arrangements for you, of course."

"This…" Ichirou, still reeling from the shock, glanced around his home.

"We Tokitos have been lumberjacks here for generations…" Kaito could see the deep reluctance in his eyes.

This was tricky. Kaito didn't want this family to be attacked by demons because of him, but he couldn't stay here to protect them indefinitely.

"Let's move," a firm female voice interrupted.

Kaito turned to see the lady of the house, frail and sickly, stepping out of her room.

She leaned weakly against the doorframe, coughing but gazing at her two sons with tender determination.

"Why are you out here?" Ichirou hurried to her side to support her.

"Dear, let's move," the woman said, her eyes resolute despite her coughs. "We… can't… let the children live under the threat of those monsters…"

"I promise! We'll move, we'll move!" Ichirou agreed hurriedly, helping her back to her room.

"There's no need to worry too much," Kaito reassured them. "I'll arrange for you to live in a safe place and provide work for you as well."
