After half a month's march, the army led by Empress Shui Yunji and Li Siyuan was poised to besiege the city. Five hundred thousand troops stood in neat rows, like a long, endless black dragon. The glistening armor formed a continuous expanse. Gleaming swords and spears were blindingly bright. Banners blotted out the sky, fluttering in the wind.
In the past half month, Empress Shui Yunji's army had advanced swiftly and unopposed, as though entering an uninhabited land. Wherever they passed, there was barely any real resistance. Most of the city guards surrendered outright upon seeing the approach of Prince Qi's forces. Even the few who stubbornly resisted were quickly subdued by her commanders.
"Prince Qi is ordained by Heaven, with My Lord's protection. Our army is invincible. I have never fought such an effortless battle!" Li Siyuan stood beside Empress Shui Yunji, his voice filled with emotion as he said flatteringly.
