Once everyone learned that the King was at dinner early, the Palace residents began to rush to the dining hall.
There was talk of an announcement that had brought the King to the dining hall early, and much confusion about just what it could be on a day like this. There were no major international conflicts ongoing, they hadn't gotten any surprise visitors that anyone knew of, and there hadn't even been rumours about a big event that would necessitate an official Royal Announcement.
But the nature of this one was nothing that any of them had expected.
The guests rushed to their seats, leaving Karl and the senior Royals as the last to be seated.
But the King decided not to make the announcement right away, and the tension in the room built to a palpable level as the first round of drinks arrived.
Karl smirked at the King's amused expression, then the Royal tapped his spoon on his glass, bringing silence to the room so that he could speak.
