Yuta slowly opened his eyes.
He blinked a few times, confused. Something… was on top of him. No, not something—someone. And they were warm. Strong. Very warm, actually. His arms were pinned and he felt a soft weight pressing down on his chest. Then came the sound of gentle breathing… right near his face.
His eyes shot open completely. "The fuck..." He looked down in a hurry.
It was Maki.
She was lying right on top of him, face resting just under his chin. Her strong arms were loosely wrapped around him like she had fallen asleep mid-hug. Her breath tickled his neck, and the warmth of her body sank into his skin. His heart skipped a beat—maybe two. His face turned a shade of red that could rival any tomato.
"Calm calm calm... don't get excited."
His brain short-circuited. Keep repeating this mantra.
But whether excited or not, his wood knew the mantra every morning. And he wasn't leaving that duty today.
"When did this happen?!" he shouted in his head, frozen in panic. He wanted to move but couldn't, too flustered to even twitch.
And as if the universe wanted to make things worse for him, Maki slowly began to stir.
"Yuta..."
Her eyes opened halfway, confused at first… until she realized exactly where she was. On top of Yuta. Chest to chest. Practically nose to nose. She jerked back so fast she almost rolled off the bed entirely.
"W-What!" she stammered, cheeks glowing red.
"N-No, it's fine! I mean—not that way! What I mean is nothing should've happened! We look well-dressed!" Yuta replied, looking everywhere except at her.
Both of them sat there, awkwardly blushing, unable to look each other in the eye. The silence between them stretched for a while—thick, awkward, and loud with everything unspoken.
"What are you doing in my room?" Maki finally shot Yuta a glare. Of course, it was a mock glare. She had never seen this place in her life. Let alone it being her room.
Yuta didn't catch that thought. Unlike Maki, who settled down pretty quickly, he was still flustered.
"Room." Yuta only then looked around.
They weren't on the Thousand Sunny anymore.
Maki looked around, blinking. "This is not my room." Seeing Yuta not speaking, she finally decided to break the silence.
Yuta's eyes, though, were fixed on his surroundings the moment it shifted from her.
He recognized this place.
"Yes, not your room. Because it's mine." He muttered like he himself couldn't believe it.
The posters on the wall. The pile of notes on the desk. The half-eaten bag of chips still sitting near the bed—and that happened like 2 years ago for him, but according to this time, it might as well be only hours.
The familiar hum of the old ceiling fan. It was his room.
Maki looked at him, confused. "What do you mean?"
Yuta slowly stood up, walking over to the window. He opened the curtain and saw the familiar skyline of Musutafu City. The world of heroes. The place he had left behind.
"I'm back," he muttered. A giant smile appeared on his face.
"DYNAMIC IS BACK ....BABY..." He shouted with zeal. The feeling to come back home after years of travel—this happiness was hard to describe.
Some people on the roadside looked at the teenager with strange looks until they realized who he really was.
"DYNAMIC..." Immediately people recognized him.
And just as quickly, Yuta closed the window.
"Enough fresh air for today. From now on, I'm going on straight hardcore shut-in mode."
Maki stayed there, slowly understanding what just happened. He told her that he couldn't go back to his place.
She understood now. This must be his original world.
And with that, everything came rushing back to both of them—their decision to transfer to another world, the way he had asked her what she wanted to do, and her answer.
She hadn't even hesitated.
"I'll go wherever you go," she had said with a small smile.
He turned to her now. Maki was looking around curiously, scanning the room with interest, but her eyes would dart back to him every few seconds, like she was checking if he was okay. Her cheeks were still pink, though she was pretending like nothing happened.
"What's this... Dating Secret Sauce?" She just found something interesting and was about to go for it before the thing all but vanished from there.
"Huh."
Yuta suddenly flashed beside her, asking what she was doing. Sneakily tugging in the dating plan she created for his and Toru's first date.
His speed with time skip saving the day.
Even written on top of it: 'Secret Sauce' in bold.
He gave her a small smile. "I guess you have figured out what happened, right..."
"Yeah," she replied.
A small smile spread across her face, seeing the beaming face of Yuta. He was acting like a child, but to see that he was this happy only to come back home...
She could tell that the place meant much to him.
"I'm hungry. Want something? I have something to do after that, so I have to go out for a while," Yuta said as he opened his room's door and escorted Maki to the kitchen.
"Sure, anything good will do." Maki wasn't a picky eater.
"Oh, then maybe something unique which we can't get back in your world. Let's see..."
Maki, only under 2 hours of coming to this world, understood why Yuta was so obsessed with heroes.
This entire world was filled with them. And her own boyfriend was a big shot here. She was going around the internet to get as much info as she could get on this world.
It was hard to believe that the idiot was this famous.
"Wait... did I just think of him as a boyfriend..." She paused. Not surprised. She knew about her own feelings, but already deciding that he was hers like that was new for her.
"That idiot... why hasn't he asked me out yet? That's a man's job to do." She huffed in indignation...
Little did she know that Yuta had more girl problems than she even realized.
He had to first fix his relationship with Toru first.
So he quickly called her up and arranged a meeting.
