Chapter 26 - 026 The path which was set(5)

Screeeeech,

The scream completely engulfed us in a state of perplexion.

We all knew what exactly caused such a revolting sound, the moment the screech came out, or maybe even before that.

Although I couldn't see how exactly it looked like, I could roughly guess it's height by how much visibility I had.

It was almost as tall as an average man.

Maybe a bit shorter comparatively. I didn't know if it still was the same ghoul that caused the genocide, but it excluded a dangerous Aura.

[You must stay away from that brat. You can't win against that thing. Nevertheless, even putting up a decent fight against it is impossible. If you use my powers it may slightly vary the outcome, but your body won't be able to handle the burden.]

Aah, the curse. I had completely forgot about it. It hadn't spoken at all, in the course of six whole months, this was the first time the guy spoke.

'What, now you suddenly care??' I asked him.

[...],

I clicked my tounge in anger. I didn't have the time to deal with this nonsense.

At the moment I had a major problem, jumping towards me.

I know that i was right with my deduction.

Even if the ghoul was strong, it's not strong enough to face all the monsters togeather.

But the anomaly I met was the wolf. Initially I had doubts on how such an injured beast was able to keep the scavengers out of range.

Logically, even an injured Lion is weak in front of a pack of hyenas.

So no matter how strong the wolf was, In its injured manner, it wasn't supposed to overpower them all.

And seeing the current state of the wolf. The megalithic beast standing in between us and death, I could tell that the wolf was going easy on us.

'Wait a minute, now that I think about it, despite fighting a top predator we didn't receive a single dent on our bodies. Even though it came at us, there was no intention to kill. Even if it did want to kill us, by how good our teamwork was, it should've retreated. After all wolves are the strongest as a pack.',

As I was pondering over our current predicament, the ghoul started to make its move.

Stretching his long slender arms he quickly screeched once more. This time even louder than before.

But the wolf did something quite surprising.

His belly began to glow blue and his fur started to develop a goldish white pallete.

The once normal wolf, now looked majestic, like a character of a mythological story.

ROARR..

The wolf spew out an insane imount of inferno from its mouth.

Completely obliterating the trees and anything present in its path.

This also included the ghoul. The ghoul had completely vanished from the scene. Maybe confirming the fact that it indeed was blown away from the Fire was quite satisfactory.

But I knew it wasn't dead. I had a hunch it didn't and I was right

"[It isn't dead yet. If the wolf hadn't fired that as a warning then we might've emerged victorius.]",

'Hmm, a warning attack. That explains why the ghoul was missing. It had already escaped. But why exactly did it not end the job.'

Once again a mystery. The working of this world incredibly confused me.

Why didn't the wolf finish the ghoul off?? Why did it fight with us?? Why did it hold back??

"I can understand your predicament human. Being thrown in an unknown world, forced to follow the will of the above, you may not feel like it. But trust me you already know all the answers. Atleast the ones that's bothering the inventive mind of a homo sapien."

A feminine voice uttered.

I was shocked. The source of the voice was from the wolf. It was currently facing me, directly glancing at my eyes. It's grey eyes boring into mine, showcasing a sense of joy??? No it was relief. That's right; relief and fatigue.

I could basically feel and understand what the wolf was going through. It didn't happen to any other animal. Just this one wolf.

I turned around to look at my friends, to know whether they heard what I had heard.

But they were just standing there. Without any movement, like a sculpture.

"What...what have you done??", I asked with fury doubling down my words.

"Calm down human. Your fury will do nothing but harm you further. They are safe sound. I have just isolated a space for us."

Breathing a sigh of relief I looked at the wolf, I had a lot of doubts but I had to careful with what I wanted to ask.

"So, why did go so far as to test us out. If you wanted to kill us, you would've done it long ago"

"Look at you. That's right. I was merely testing you. To see if you were worthy. I already know what you are going to ask so let me be clear, I too don't know who brought you here, or how a extradimensional soul like you is existing along in this world."

'Hmm, so this was something that even a mythical, talking and fire spitting creature like her had no idea about.'

'Still, if it was thus strong, what the hell made her bleed this much, who the hell was this thing/ creature??',

"So, what exactly are you?? Like how are you able to talk to me. How did create a different void or space?? How did you know that I was not who I seem to be??? And what on earth got you an injury like that??",

"Such an impatient human you are. I myself am surprised to see a human understanding and speaking our tongue. But forgive me, I've yet to introduce myself, I am Vlenera, the current queen of the wolves. The wolves of calamity , that's the name you gave us. I came here because we were destined to meet. A human from an another world, who was supposed to change the course of this wretched land. I came to see such a human."

"What?? What nonsense!! Vlenera explain yourself, what do you mean, supposed to change??" I shouted. At this point nothing was making sense, the destined meet up and conversing with a wolf. Nothing. NOTHING WAS ADDING UP.

Growl,

Vlenera suddenly started to cough out blood.

"Awoo, seems like my times almost up. I'm sorry I can't answer all your questions. I want you to take care of my son. If it's you, then my child will grow up just as I wanted it to. Thank you, my child.....thank you Zorark",

'Zorark?? Who's zorark?? Did she mistake me for someone else. What's going on??'

No, no, no. It made no sense. This conversation made no sense. The random fight. The sudden appearance of a talking wolf, calling me some unknown name. Fated encounter???

Fck, fck, FCK.

I could feel it. I was going mad.

'Did I loose it?? Did I finally go mad??',

"Aarghhhhhhhh, arghhhhhhhhhhhhh", I suddenly screamed. I screamed at the top of my lungs.

My brain was being flooded my memories, memories of someone other than me. Someone whom I've never met, known or heard.

The memories of a small dog, no no, a wolf. Memories of a man playing with his wolf. The wolf looked exactly similar to the one in front of me.

It was smaller, younger and far more innocent.

The white fur swaying by the fast gushing wind. The tail wagging, indicating how it liked me. No not me, it's owner. Zarark.

That's right these were the memories of Zarark.

"Hmm, let's see. What shall we call you?? Hmm how about Vlenera", a voice said.

"Woof, woof",

The pain in my head suddenly ended.

I slowly looked at the wolf, which was almost at deaths door.

Drip, Drip, Drip.

Tears began accumulating on my eyes. I unknowingly started to weep.

The face, of the wolf was something that I would never forget.

It was smiling. Smiling as it glanced at me.

"I love you master. Thank you for everything" it said finally drawing its last breath.

The tears began to overflow. My heart stinging. These weren't my feelings but it felt strangely familiar.

Strangely humane...
