Chapter 21 - 021 Sudden changes

Flip, Flip...

In a lavishly decorated room a man with an eyepatch was sitting turning the pages of a certain document.

"Nara, how much movement have you detected??",

"Roughly around the lateral parts of South. There isn't much movement after it gobbled up all those people. I think the Ghoul is currently feeding. If it's indeed feeding then we have roughly around 10 months or so."

"Lateral side you say... How many people did we loose??",

"Roughly around 350. Including children and pregn-",

"Yes, I get that. Don't give me in detail. Sigh,...If the numbers that high then we have about 2 years more or less. How well is the training going on??",

"The current batch is learning very fast. The military school did decide to send us help due to how large our enrollment rate is, but the bureau is still standing firm"

BANG,

"Godfckindammit!!!!. Useless bastards. Sigh, Anna I want you to call Munroe here. Tell Klein to dispatch his team of spies towards the north. I want them to closely monitor the road between the town and the slums. If you find anything threatening, get rid of them. Use any means to obtain information. Never get caught" he said.

"Anything else??",

"Well....one last thing!!! Roy, Roy is able to cast elements without chanting.",

"....."

"...."

"Without chanting...hahahahaha, what a fate. Chantless elementalist. How long has it been since such a name came up. Haah, Nara, you know what to do right.??",

"Yes I do"

"Good, disperse", the man said blending a nice coffee with his blender.

'This is going to be a looong year',

I was currently sitting below the huge banyan tree and was controlling the wind.

It started to become quite easy after my experience with Nara. From the past two days, I have been continously learning about Mana, it's properties and how well do I control the wind.

Nara also taught me some fake spells or more like their names to mask out the fact that I can use elements without any formal chanting.

Huff Huff,

After two hours of strain my mana reserves were nearly depleted and I decided to end my training right here.

I quickly took a deep breath, stretched a few times and head towards my inn.

The tension around the slums began to arise silently, with each day people getting agitated.

The sudden deaths hit the slums hard, way more harder than it ever should.

As soon I reached the inn. I quickly went for a bath.

After I freshened up I saw Nara waiting for me near my room leaning against the wall.

"Roy, we're gonna have to talk. From now on whatever you hear is going to be secretive and sensitive information. Don't ask questions about what you're about to be told. And do not give any answers either. Sit and observe carefully what is being told. You're going to unite the slums in the future. There will be a lot pieces still in your way. A lot you wouldn't understand but everything will have a time. Until then never ask anyone regarding this.", she said leading me into my dad's room.

There I saw Alice and Rey sitting opposite to each other with an empty chair reserved for Nara.

His room was as extravagant as I remember. Both sides of the walls covered by paintings and various arts. The main desk had a bent looking lamp with the skull of I don't know what but somewhat megalithic being hanging right behind his desk.

The skull had two huge brown coloured horns protruding from the side, making it look kind of cool.

The horns perfectly contrasted the color of the room, making the space look like it was some antic vintage treasure.

My dad gestured me to sit down while opened his draw and passed me a file.

"Roy, I want you to read this document after our conversation. Once you read come and report me what you understood. If you can understand the situation then you will have to do certain tasks and missions for the slums. Sigh, I know Roy, I'm sorry I can't gift you with a better life for the moment. But, this is all nothing but temporary. When the time comes we will obtain back everything that is rightfully ours." He said sipping his cup of caffeine.

There was completely silence in the room, so much that it started to get awkward. Anna finally broke the vast discomfort.

"Well, we heard about your usage of chantless spells and your abnormal calmness during extreme times, weird abilities and whatnot. You've changed ever since the blue lunar.",

( REF CH 1).

"And??",

"And, we think the change is for the better. I don't know why you don't want to tell us what exactly happened with you, but it seemed to have made an impact on your psychological well being. Your sudden maturity shows this and that's why we think it's best to tell you right now.", Anna said hugging me tightly. I could tell that she was in verge of tears.

Her warm embrace made me feel extremely comfortable but my heart was pricking.

I gently hugged her back and whispered;

"You still will make me hazelnut buns right??",

She lightly chuckled and kissed my forehead,

"Yes, Yes I would".

After an emotional moment, my dad continued.

"Roy, as you may know. The current situation in the slums is not very beautiful, in fact it has become ugly. The deaths you saw will only be more in the coming months. As of now, we have roughly around a year. Maximum a year and a half till the next genocide. When it comes we cannot handle it. Right now, we only have one option; to grow strong. The neandth have been continously doing some back activities, so not only do we have to take care of them we also have something dangerous lurking. So, we have decided to give you guys something that can help you grow tremendously." He said with a gaze as sharp as a sword.

"....The thing that killed those people what was it??"

"...Something you don't want to mess around. The adults will take care of that mess. You're still too young to understand that"

"What do I have to do dad??", I asked nonchalantly.

"Bring Alice, Jack and Nero here. Later you are going to follow Anna. Let me tell you something Roy, the place you are going is nothing short of dangers. I'm sorry I had to make this decision but just know that no matter what decision I take or how harsh it is, I will always be there when you need me. Now get going and take these" he said passing me a small box along with a bag which looked long and cylindrical.

"This will help you out in the wild. Good luck on your first day" he said.
