Chapter 279 - The Letters 1

DEBORAH'S POV

The house felt different when I walked through Victoria's front door. Smaller somehow. Like the walls had moved closer together while I was gone, squeezing the air out of every room.

Victoria was waiting for me in the living room with that look on her face. The one she'd worn when we were kids and she was about to tell me something I didn't want to hear. She had an envelope in her hands.

"They came by while you were gone," she said.

I didn't need to ask who. The envelope had that expensive weight to it. The kind of paper that cost more per sheet than most people spent on lunch.

"Elijah's lawyers?"

She nodded and held it out to me. I stared at it for a long moment before taking it. My name was written across the front in elegant script. Mrs. Deborah Rossi. Like they were being polite about destroying my life.
