"Hermione..." He said it, or thought he said it, though his ears were ringing too loudly to be sure.
When she moved closer to him, he realized he had been vocal about her name. He had to make sure she was completely okay. "Closer..."
She seemed to hesitate for a fraction of a second, terrified by the carnage, but she steeled herself and got closer to his side. His vision cleared just enough to see her face. "Good... you're okay..."
"I'm okay, Lucifer! But you... you've been pierced with large chunks of wood in at least four spots!" Hermione cried, her voice cracking as fresh tears began to pour down her face. 'He's been mortally injured', she thought, her heart breaking, 'and the very first thing he cares about is making sure I'm safe...'
"L-Lucifer..." she sobbed.
'I'll do as you ask, go where you want me to,' Lucifer prayed internally, directing the silent thought toward his Dad.
Hermione cried into her palms, looking at the damage. He had been hit straight-on by the debris of the writing desk he blew up. A massive, jagged chunk of wood was impaled entirely through his left shoulder; another large piece was buried deep in his right leg, which she figured might be splitting his femur; a third large piece was embedded in his stomach, his shirt turning a deep crimson rather quickly; the fourth large piece was driven through the right side of his chest, likely puncturing his lung, which she figured was causing the blood to spill from his mouth.
This wasn't even counting the dozens of small splinters embedded in his arms, legs, torso, and face. None of them had hit his eyes, which Hermione was ever so thankful for.
'---In exchange, all I ask is that you protect Hermione.....'
Lucifer closed his eyes, fully hoping to finally go back where he belonged. Hell. But to his immense surprise, nothing happened, the environment didn't shift.
"The coward... won't do it," he growled in a very dark, dangerous tone, his eyes flashing red through the dust. He looked toward the doorway where the adults were hovering. "Everyone... leave. Now. Hermione can stay... if she wants to."
Molly Weasley stepped forward, her face pale as she opened her mouth to argue, but Sirius and Remus both quickly caught her by the arms, ushering her out into the hall. Everyone left the room with great, anxious reluctance, shutting the door behind them.
"L-Lucifer?" Hermione whispered, her hands shaking.
He carefully raised a hand, his eyes glowing a steady red as he used a wordless cutting charm to slice his ruined shirt off his body, revealing the raw damage to be significantly worse than Hermione had initially believed.
"Y-you need to go straight to Saint Mungo's hospital—"
"No... I can heal this myself," Lucifer said, his voice strained and pained. "I just need some physical help... getting this wood out..."
Hermione walked forward, swallowing her panic. Carefully and slowly, she gripped the first massive shard and removed each piece of wood, one by one, exactly when he told her to pull. She could only figure he had thoroughly read the 'Advanced Healing Magic' book from Lux and knew exactly what he was doing.
With each piece of wood pulled cleanly from his flesh, Lucifer slowly moved his glowing hand into each open wound, tracing the damaged muscle. When he finished working inside, he slowly moved his palm over the surface, and the skin knitted itself together, healing right before Hermione's eyes.
When his face, arms, and torso were completely clear, he used his magic to cut off his ruined pants, leaving him in only his boxers. Hermione was far too worried about his life to think much of the modesty right then, focusing entirely on pulling the remaining wood slowly from his legs.
He healed each spot until his legs were perfectly good.
But before he had begun to heal his legs at all, her eyes caught the numerous old-looking wounds, scars, and smooth patches of skin where no hair grew. 'What on earth has he been through over the centuries?' she thought, a heavy wave of sadness hitting her. 'And why am I only now able to see these hidden scars...?'
Lucifer looked down at his boxers, noticing her fixed stare. "You can turn around if you want to..."
Hermione was about to, but she steeled her nerves and stayed facing him, her cheeks already turning a bright red before he even moved his boxers down to check the damage down there. When he did push them down to his ankles, she caught a clear view of his flaccid sex organ, seeing it for the first time in a couple of weeks. It had been hit by a small bit of sharp shrapnel.
His scrotum was perfectly okay, which seemed to be his main concern as Hermione watched him carefully look over his private area.
Aside from her intense concern for his health, she had a few frantic thoughts racing through her teenage mind. 'I wonder if it has grown a couple of inches by now...? The head is clearly visible... If it weren't so incredibly serious right now... the things I'd offer to do to him...'
Lucifer quickly healed the minor shrapnel damage he found down there, entirely unaware of the intense sexual tension Hermione was currently feeling, and pulled his boxers back up. He pointed his wand at his discarded clothes, using a crisp "Reparo" on both his pants and shirt before putting them back on with his girlfriend's assistance.
"Thank you... I don't think I could have easily done that without you," he said softly. Then reached up, cupping her face in his palms, and kissed her sensually and lovingly.
She kissed him back with a deep fervor, a quiet moan escaping from her throat, before they parted a moment later. "I love you," she whispered against his lips.
"I lo—thank you, Hermione," Lucifer said, stopping mid-words.
Even though he cut himself off, the slip of his tongue made her stomach tingle with absolute excitement. She blushed deeply and smiled adorably up at him. He turned and started to walk toward the door, noticeably limping from the residual shock to his muscles; he might have healed the physical tissue, but the intense pain still lingered in his nerves.
Hermione stepped up to his side, helping him support his weight as he reached the door. He threw it open to reveal the entire household standing anxiously out in the corridor.
"Is dinner still warm?" Lucifer asked humorlessly, his dark eyes sweeping over them.
Without waiting for a single answer, he pushed past the stunned crowd and began to navigate his way back down the stairs. The Order members were left completely speechless, turning their heads to look at Hermione.
She simply shrugged her shoulders and followed right behind him. She didn't know the full story of what he had seen in that room, and she wasn't about to pressure Lucifer into telling her anything. She would let him talk at his own pace; it was the absolute least she could do for him after everything he had sacrificed for her.
'He's gone through so much abuse and trauma in his lifetime,' Hermione thought to herself as the silent crowd followed them back down the stone stairs, muttering quietly among themselves about the explosion. 'He deserves a break. He deserves some real reprieve... and he deserves to be loved. I can at least make sure he has that last one.'
