Chapter 33 - [33] Motivation

-3rd POV-

Kevin and his group suddenly appeared on some sort of floating Island in an endless void of nothingness.

There wasn't even any life or anything for that matter. It was just a plain, smooth stone island that seemed to have been polished perfectly flat.

But there was actually something on the edge of the island that they were on.

Kevin narrowed his eyes as he used mana on his eyes to enhance them.

There he was, Otto, who was looking at the endless horizon while sitting on a white, cheap-looking plastic chair with a katana leaning on his chair.

"So you've come," Otto spoke in a low tone as his hair swayed in the wind.

...there wasn't even wind in here.

"We're here now, so give us answers," Said Kevin bluntly. He wanted to leave this place as soon as possible since he couldn't find any way to leave.

Not by normal means, that is.

"So no introductions? Fine, then let's begin. Let me see your motivation." Otto stood up as he unsheathed his katana with his thumb.

Kevin's eyes widened as he saw him draw his weapon. "Get ready!" Kevin created a holy sword as everyone else got ready for the fight. The only ones that weren't really combat-oriented were Aponia, Mobius, Vill-V, and Griseo.

But all of a sudden, a multitude of energy domes trapped all of them besides Kevin, freezing them as if time had been stopped within those spheres.

"Damit!" Kevin turned around so that he could hack down those sealing domes to free his friend, but-

*BOOM!!!*

An immense pressure dropped on Kevin.

Despair, yes, that's what he felt. Even when he fought that mid-level devil, he did not feel this much dread. The feeling of weakness, the feeling of not being strong enough.

"Don't turn your back on me now, Kevin, our fight has just begun!"

*Foosh!*

With a single step, Otto disappeared, not that he turned invisible or something, but Otto was simply too fast for him to perceive.

After all, without his sacred gear, Kevin is at most a peak low-level class, and with sacred gear, he makes it into the middle class. He's simply too weak for someone of Otto's class.

Kevin was on full alert, trying to find where he was.

A fresh breeze suddenly blew on his neck.

Kevin immediately rolled forward on the ground as he narrowly avoided a thrust from Otto's katana.

"Oh? You dodged that? Impressive for someone so...weak~" Otto taunted as he flourished his sword.

Kevin gritted his teeth as he stabbed his sword into the ground.

"Sword Maker!" He yelled as a sea of swords rose from the ground.

Otto looked at Kevin with an impressed expression, but-

Otto lifted his finger with a passive expression and concentrated energy on the tip of his finger.

*Vooooom!*

A blast of pure mana ripped through Kevin's incoming wave of sword.

"Really, Sword Maker? Your sacred gear's name is [Blade Blacksmith], way better than the name you gave it," Otto hummed as he shook his head in disappointment. He thought that Kevin would have a better naming sense.

"Sacred...Gear?" Asked Kevin between tired pants. Otto's blast not only shredded through Kevin's attack, but it also narrowly blasted his head off clean and blew up another floating stone island that was floating in the distant sky.

"Yeah, Sacred Gear. Basically, they are a bunch of weapons that god made for humans so that they could fight against the supernatural. Your sacred gear lets you make holy swords." Otto explained. He hates that he always has to explain sacred gears to someone at least once a year, but this time it was necessary.

"Then... what's yours? Superpower blast?" Asked Kevin as he let out a nervous joke. It was unusual for him, but he needed that to steel his nerves.

"Ha-ha, very funny. No, it's not. Mine is something scarier~!" Otto said with an evil grin, his shadow stretched as two figures jumped out of it.

"Should have kept my mouth shut..." cursed Kevin as he saw the two figures in front of him.

[Alatreon]

[Fatalis]

As the two dragons towered over him, they both opened their mouth. A raging sea of flames shot out like a dam being opened.

Kevin quickly dropped to the floor as the sea of flames blazed just over his head.

As the fire died down, Otto looked at Kevin with a bit of pity. "You really have a talent for surviving no matter what, huh?" Otto muttered under his breath.

The two elder dragons behind him were also looking at him with what would be called 'smiles'.

"Damit!" was all Kevin could say.

"Damit indeed, Kevin, Damit indeed. Now then, show me what you're made of, if you're worth keeping or if you should be...disposed of."

Round two of "Otto Vs Kevin" began!!!
