ERIK'S POV
Erik walked through the hallway with his hands tucked into the pockets of his trousers.
He couldn't get Fiona's words out of his head.
I don't trust you anymore.
He sighed heavily.
He deserved it.
Maybe not everything she had said, but most of it.
He had hurt Fiona.
He had made her believe that there was something between them, something that could actually become real.
And then Jessica had returned.
His mate.
The woman he had watched die.
The woman he had spent years trying to forget.
Erik shook his head.
He didn't want Jessica.
He didn't love Jessica.
He didn't want the mate bond.
He didn't want any of it.
But unfortunately, he couldn't simply rip the bond out of his body.
He had tried to ignore it.
He had tried to pretend that it didn't exist.
But every time Jessica came close, he could feel it.
The connection.
The pull.
The disgusting reminder that the Goddess had tied him to the worst woman he had ever known.
"Erik."
He stopped.
