As the night wore on, the sounds of laughter and music slowly faded, leaving only the soft murmurs of goodbyes echoing across the village square.
"Bye everyone! It was a lovely welcome party."
"See you General Bonheur!"
Most of the villagers had already made their way home, but a few familiar faces remained- chiefly, the soldiers who had been drinking and toasting the night away. The party was winding down, but the camaraderie among them was still strong.
At the head of the group stood Jonathan, Rowan's comrade and brother-in-arms. His face was flushed with drink, his laughter loud and carefree. He raised his cup high, his voice booming as he called out to Rowan.
"Hey, Rowan!" Jonathan shouted, a grin plastered on his face. "Join us for one last drink! You've earned it! We want to congratulate you on finally getting the woman you've always dreamed of!"
