Chapter 448 - Chapter 448: Superheroing 101 (End)

[Third Person Pov]

Peter then moved onto the last topic of his presentation, "And the last thing a hero needs, and not just heroes mind you, this applies to everyone. You need balance…"

"And no," Peter said as he flipped the chalk in his hands, "I'm not talking about physical equilibrium."

Peter suddenly dropped to the ground and started balancing on the piece of chalk, drawing looks of awe from everyone.

"What you truly need," he continued, using one hand to perfectly balance on the piece of the chalk while his legs were raised above his head, "is balance between the mask and the person underneath it. Between the hero stuff… and just being you."

He hopped off the chalk with a casual flip, catching it mid-air and tucking it behind his ear like a pencil. The students, who had been sitting cross-legged on the floor of the Xavier Mansion's grand lecture hall, leaned forward, eyes wide.

"Finding a balance between work and being yourself is a lot more important than what people realize," Peter said, his voice warm and earnest as he paced slowly in front of them. "One cannot function without the other. If you favor one over the other, the entire situation collapses on you. You can't be a hero full-time without being a non-hero sometimes. You'd lose sight of what it is you're fighting for… and you wouldn't even enjoy the fruits of your labor when you finally win. And the opposite is true too—if you only ever focus on 'normal' life and ignore the part of you that wants to make a difference, that fire inside you starts to die."

He paused, letting the words sink in. A few students shifted uncomfortably, clearly thinking about their own powers, their fears, the weight of the X-gene.

"So a balance between both sides must be formed," Peter continued gently. "That means you shouldn't neglect the people that are important to you. Your friends, your family… whoever makes you feel like home."

Peter rubbed the back of his neck, a sheepish little smile crossing his face. "I'll be honest with you guys—finding that balance isn't easy. Even for someone like me. I have to juggle being Spider-Man, spending time with my family, my day job, or simply just… time for myself. It can definitely get a bit overwhelming."

He noticed the heavy expressions settling over the young faces in front of him—kids who had already seen too much, carried too much. Peter's smile softened, turning bright and reassuring.

"Lucky for you, there's an easy solution to all that."

The students looked up at him curiously, some tilting their heads.

Peter winked toward the side of the room where his group of friends were watching from the edge—Harry leaning against the wall with his arms crossed, Gwen smiling softly, MJ with that knowing smirk, Felicia twirling a strand of silver hair, Aria and Lizzy both grinning like they already knew what was coming.

"It helps having people you can count on to watch your back," Peter said. "Finding balance isn't something you have to do alone. It's alright to lean on the people close to you. Doing so doesn't make you weaker, and it isn't something you should be ashamed of. I do it all the time… and I'm grateful to my friends for always having my back."

At that, Harry, Gwen, MJ, Felicia, Aria, and Lizzy all smiled—some a little smug, others embarrassed, cheeks tinting pink as they exchanged glances.

Peter turned back to the students. "The X-gene might make you super-human, but you're still human. You aren't invincible. So count on your fellow classmates, your teachers, your principal… and most importantly, your fellow heroes when you start to feel overwhelmed." He winked directly at the group of X-Men scattered among the crowd before giving a theatrical little bow.

A thunderous applause erupted through the lecture hall—from the students on the floor, from the X-Men standing along the walls, and especially from Peter's friends who clapped loudest of all. Kurt, sitting cross-legged among the students with his tail curled around his legs, had tears glistening in his golden eyes. He sniffled loudly, clapping with enthusiastic, three-fingered hands while trying (and failing) to hide how moved he was.

Peter chuckled, holding up his hands for quiet. "Thank you, thank you. You guys have been a great audience for my TED Talk."

A ripple of laughter spread through the room.

"Before we officially finish," Peter added, raising a finger, "I have one more thing to add…"

"HOMEWORK!!"

The students groaned loudly in unison, some dramatically flopping backward onto the floor in exasperation.

Peter waved them down with a laugh. "Hey, hey, easy! It's simple, I promise. No essays, no pop quizzes. Your homework is this: after you leave this room, go out and find your own motto. Something that means something to you. During conversations, throw out a light-hearted quip here and there—make it natural, don't force it. And most importantly… do things you love. Spend time being yourselves. Be kids. If there's something you've always wanted to try but never had the time or the courage, make the time. Push past those fears."

Many of the students smiled at that—some nodding quietly to themselves, a few whispering excitedly to their friends.

Peter looked around the room, a playful smirk tugging at his lips. "Now… who wants a picture to remember this day?"

Every single hand shot up enthusiastically—even Jean Grey raised her hand up towards the ceiling, waving it enthusiastically.

Scott turned to her with a raised brow, his expression. "Seriously?"

Jean just smiled, a little embarrassed, and shrugged. "What? It's a good moment."

Peter grinned wide. "Alright then—everybody squeeze in and don't forget to smile! Let's make this one for the yearbook… or the Xavier Mansion wall of fame, whatever you guys call it."

As the students scrambled to their feet, laughing and chattering, Peter glanced once more at his friends. They gave him thumbs-ups and proud little nods.
