Episode(112) A Former Saintess With Something To Prove
SOVEREIGN OF DEATH~(112)
Would Nagisa even like someone with a body like hers?
Even if he had modified her to be no different from an ordinary girl, she was still a ghoul.
Would he even consider her as a woman and not a living monster?
Perhaps, if she dared to muster the courage and confess he would only laugh at her and tell he to know her place.
Slap*
No, focus!
With her life on the line, just what was she even thinking about?
Honestly, if the situation wasn't so dire she might have taken the time to slap herself silly.
Now wasn't the time to sink into such thoughts. And, even if she was insecure about herself Nagisa would never say such things.
Yes, he was blunt but never mean.
The monster, recovering itself gathered mana before itself, then with a few hand movements it stretched its chest wide and sent out multiple energy blades at once.
For now, just focus on the battle.
With that thought in mind, Camilla stomped on the ground her body light with the infusion of mana as she closed the distance avoiding the attacks.
It's slow.
Maybe since it was a wide range attack and the monster lacked enough control, the attacks were at a level even she could dodge.
But she also counted this as a her fortune as it meant if the monster was given more time to get used to everything she would never be its match.
It was lucky she encountered it as it was just born.
At least for now, she could bide her time.
Shu!
Sword aura light up the sword as both figures closed the distance with fast steps.
Clang!
Camilla was the first to be sent back.
The force sent her soaring quite a distance but she kept her balance and landed, feet kicking up dust as she charged towards the incoming monster once more.
She had to keep the momentum. Or, at least make the momentum on both sides equal or else she would be in big trouble.
A fierce onslaught ensued.
Camilla clashed against the monster, avoiding where she could and clashing where she could.
Still, several times she was forced back and attacks broke through her defense continuously carving wounds into her body.
Let's not forget, this monster had stats way above her own level. Not to mention it had several more limbs than she had.
So while Camilla could attack once, it could attack three or four times.
It was by sheer luck that she just barely avoided being skewered again by a hairs breadth.
<
After dodging an attack to her face, Camilla tanked an attack with the sword held diagonally and was sent flying.
Mid-flight she casted a spell.
The next moment, the phantom of an angel appeared behind Camilla and several chains wrapped in golden divine brilliance extended from the light covering its body instantly sealing the moments of the monster.
!!!
Angels embrace was originally a skill that wrapped allies in a chain of light for healing.
And advanced healing spell, she had barely mastered proficiency to use this skill but it was a spell that was considered a defect for healers and priests.
Why?
Because it would wrap chains around the body and immobilize them. Could this be used mid combat?
Wouldn't this just be creating a coffin for allies and making it easy for opponents to land attacks?
But, Nagisa had seen the usefulness of the skill and told her to think outside the box.
It was only now she realized what he had meant, but she was grateful.
She had to hurry. Her proficiency in casting this spell was low and it drained mana, not to mention the opponent was way stronger than herself.
The only consolation was that she could control the 'healing' applied to the spell and therefore cancelled this effect in the spell making it only a skill to stun opponents.
In this way, the mana cost was significantly lowered but she was already close to running on empty.
With a blurry step, her figure vanished appearing behind the monster as a cross slash was carved into its chest.
'Too shallow'
She clicked her tongue feeling the attack did not have much effect.
But it was too late, the monster overpowered her control and directly shattered the light chains with brute strength.
The angel phantom in the air vanished and the monster was already launching itself above her its hands poised to claw through her body mercilessly.
Camilla calculated the trajectory of the attack, with a lean of her body she followed the momentum to drive it off course.
But, the force behind the attack was too great and though she managed to deflect it somewhat, her posture crumbled.
A spider leg took advantage of this moment and shot straight towards her face.
Kuh!
No other choice, Camilla raised her left arm, the spear like spider leg shot straight through her arm splattering blood everywhere.
Following this, the monster landed and stomped on the ground shattering the floor at its feet and folded its fist driving a heavy blow into her stomach.
Boom!
Visible shockwaves appeared as her body folded and flew out like a blur crashing into the cave walls.
Slumped on the floor, Camilla spat blood with a helpless look on her face.
She felt no pain, and yet she knew her body was heavily damaged as copious amounts of blood spewed from her mouth.
Her trembling hand on the floor still held the sword tightly, but she felt as if she could just barely muster strength enough to lift the sword.
At the same time her mana reserves, slowly recovering were pitifully low.
[This body…without it-]
This wouldn't even have been a battle. Forget fighting back, she couldn't even think of resisting this monster in her original body.
'Unless I'm dead then I won't stop fighting'
[…]
She decided to give it a bit more effort. As long as her limbs could move she could definitely do more.
Stabbing the sword tip into the ground, she stood up with wobbly legs hunching instead of standing straight as she did at the very beginning.
Yet, even as her posture crumbled to this pathetic state her determination burned fiercely.
She hadn't even repaid that person yet.
Her eyes glared at the monster.
[Come, fight]
Unrelenting, ready to face death but struggling against the fate of dying. These were the eyes of a warrior.
Struggle, it didn't matter her pathetic she was while struggling. To see her family, to repay the man who gave her a second life and to stand by his side.
She would stake her life on holding back this monster!
But-
[Kiiieeeyaahh!!!!]
How could she have forgotten this skill?
The sharp shrieked entered her mind and the twisting vertigo sensation spun the world in her perception.
An extreme sense of Nausea welled up inside her and she wobbled as the feeling of barfing grew by the second but nothing came up.
She looked up, disheveled and barely able to make out the view before her she was shocked.
The insects that had been stationary until now as if they received some sort of directive began to move.
Heh, it seemed the monster was getting impatient. Sure, it was getting used to its abilities as time went on and eventually it would be able to kill this woman with a single slap.
However it always felt a chill as if it should not waste energy on this woman.
This, disregarding its pride it ordered an advance. Better to kill this woman and get it over with.
Camilla smiled, closing one eye she focused her vision through the twisting world in her eyes and laughed unhindered by fear.
[My name is Camilla! Former Saintess of the Goddess and now a companion of Kanata Nagisa-]
She felt the wind of death wash over her but she had never felt so free before.
[Even if my teeth and nails are ripped out, even if my blood is drained….even if all my limbs are torn off]
Her battle intent surged.
[Do not think you bastards can vanquish my will!]
She felt dizzy. Dizzy enough to fall the very next moment.
No, not yet.
Again, she stabbed the sword into the ground and peered forward.
She still had mana remaining. It was a pitiful amount, barely enough for this fight. Yet-
[I shall make it enough!]
Whether to prove her will or to overcome her own weakness.
She would battle!
