Episode(107) Just Go Wild, Let the Greed Devour You!
SOVEREIGN OF DEATH~(107)
[Camilla: POV]
[Ack!...]
Being dragged through several ft thick wall and then ruthlessly thrown to the ground made Camilla a bit disoriented.
Looking up, she saw the monster with its intimidating aura staring down at her menacingly. Its entire aura had become chilling to the bone and even it's exoskeleton had changed colors to become a shiny gold.
Had it undergone an evolution?
Camilla had no idea, however its magical power seemed to have gotten several times denser than before.
[This is ridiculous...]
Several more bugs had crawled out from who knew where filling the space until even the air felt like it was crawling with bugs.
[Unreasonable..]
She had no other words for this crappy situation.
Sweat trickled down her brows and her face paled the more she saw the number grow.
Spiders, Ants, praying mantis, and several armored insects the size of a person.
Although their levels were relatively low, being no higher than 50 and the highest 70, the number was simply too overwhelming to calmly accept.
Camilla gritted her teeth.
[How am I supposed to fight this many monsters?]
Most importantly, with that bastard here and having undergone evolution there was no way she could win.
Whether it was the guy commanding the group or the mob itself, all paths seemed to lead straight to hell.
[Haha…]
There was no way-
Despair. From the depths of her soul, despair crept in.
She would die here without a doubt.
Closing her eyes to accept the death that would soon come, Camilla blocked out the shrieking of the monsters surrounding her when a sudden memory came to mind.
…
[Hey...]
Camilla, a dagger in her hand as she cut what seemed to be monster parts into pieces called out to the lazy bum chewing on monster meat while stretching haphazardly.
[Hmmm?]
Even while he laid there in such a crude posture his beautiful face and captivating eyes still made her heart thump wildly every time she saw him.
But, seeing the beauty with such a lazy uncaring posture in the dangerous dungeon made her want to give him a kick.
Camilla shook off those thoughts and asked.
[Why did you want to be, you know...why did you get this strong?]
She was curious, for someone to get so powerful, it must surely be fueled by deep desire and a powerful goal.
Although she had heard his story and he said he wasn't really focusing on revenge, could that be his goal in the end?
[That.....why all of a sudden?]
Nagisa was stunned. What was with this girl all of a sudden asking such questions?
Camilla paused, she couldn't exactly say out loud that she was thinking about how she could help him right?
That was too embarrassing.
So, after a thought she came up with an excuse.
[You-You know that everyone has a goal they want to achieve by becoming stronger right?]
Even in this world, there were people with monstrous talent yet even with that talent they were far beneath this person.
That was because everyone else struck a wall no matter how strong their drive was.
But, he seemed fueled by endless drive infinitely growing as he pleased.
[When it comes to a limit, you seem endless. Honestly, you're more like a monster than the monsters themselves]
Nagisa frowned.
[As rude as ever]
Still, the question lingered in his mind and he lazily rolled to his back.
[Can't exactly refute-]
It was just like in his previous world. A curious scientist was bound to experience more growth than someone who had no curiosity into how the world functioned.
A chef, passionate to see the smiles of his clients was bound to put more care and effort into his cooking increasing his skills to make sure his customers always left with a happy smile rather than a chef who just did it because he was good at it.
It was the same with a swordsman or martial artist, a politician or a student.
One's growth was ultimately fueled by desire and unwillingness to settle for stability.
[So, how can you continue to grow so endlessly when you're already so powerful, doesn't it get muddled somewhere along the way?]
Yet, Nagisa shook his head.
He didn't think too hard about these matters. For him, there was no end. Each end was just a path that was just beginning.
Even if his physical strength and magical power reached the end, then he would find new ways to become even stronger.
If physical power already reached the limit then find ways to exert more power.
If magical power reached its limit then refine your control even further.
[I can never say that I've accomplished what I wanted-]
There was always more to learn, more to gain and more to grow so why even bother thinking about limits?
Still-
[I don't get it]
Camilla heard the words, but she couldn't understand them. When the road ended how could she think about forging on, what path would she take?
But, this was Nagisa's thought process so it was hard to put into words.
It was like asking a person how to breathe. Buddy, just breathe!
[Think about it this way, I already master the sword but I feel like swinging it a different way can make it faster, a thrust there can make it sharper-]
It was just seeking out more paths.
Of course, there were limits that curiosity could not overcome. One was innate ability, talent and potential.
But-
[Being human means being greedy does it not?]
Doesn't training martial arts, practicing spell casting emphasize that greed? If you had no greed to begin with then just lie down and become a pauper.
Nagisa utilized that greed, along with his own innate abilities to ensure there was no end to his path.
Nagisa was already sitting up, facing Camilla as the fire crackled he spoke.
[You goal was to revive your family, however you lacked the means and gave up]
Camilla scratched her head a bit awkwardly.
[That…I'm a bit helpless aren't I?]
Her shoulders drooped just thinking back to that time. However Nagisa had no thoughts of demeaning her efforts.
[It's not criticism, I'm just trying to say how amazing I am]
Camilla heard this and paused. She looked at the guy, his nose pointed to the sky while singing his own praises.
Was that entire bit just to stroke his own ego?
Realizing the gaze that Camilla held changed, Nagisa coughed then got back on topic.
Kuhum!
[I'm trying to say you weren't lacking in desire, what you lacked was ability and that killed your desire for growth-]
He grinned at Camilla.
[Guess what? I gave you that ability!]
His grin was wild and filled with a narcissistic ego yet it was that ego-filled grin that drew her in.
Nagisa pointed at her chest.
[The only thing holding you back now is you! Just go wild, let the greed devour you whole!]
