Rose stared silently at Hestia, her mother. The goddess Hestia. Considered to be the kindest goddess around in all mythologies.
Yet she only felt anger and abandonment at the being before her, but also hope. Hope that she could perhaps have a family member that didn't hate her.
"I'm sure you have heard the story of James and Lily Potter. Married soon after leaving Hogwarts." Hestia spoke softly as she manipulated the flames of the hearth to show scenes as she spoke, and Rose greedily took in the images of her parents.
"They joined The Order of The Phoenix, a resistance group lead by Albus Dumbledore to fight against the dark wizard, Voldemort. Fighting side by side to try and free their home."
"Together they were a formidable team, even more so when she and James joined up with Remus Lupin and Sirius Black. However despite everything, Lily Potter was no duelist unlike the other three. She was better at supporting in duels."
"So one day when she was assigned to work with a different group of members because James Potter and Sirius Black were incapacitated at the time, she was caught in a trap. Death Eaters had planned their attack in advance and let false information slip through."
"No permant harm was done to Lily Potter, however Bellatrix Lestrange managed to land a single curse on Lily Potter. A curse that did no visible physical harm, instead it targeted her insides. They took her to the hospital, but the curse had done damage. Lily Potter was rendered infertile."
"How was I able to be born then?" Rose asked confused. Was she not the child of James and Lily Potter?
"You are their child, do not fret my daughter. You were sired from their loins. Make no mistake of that." Hestia reassured with a small smirk as Rose went a bit red.
Though if that was from anger or embarrassment, maybe both, Rose wasn't sure.
"Lily Potter always wanted a family. Her own little army of children to love. Her dreams were crushed. So she turned to her original source of comfort and a coping method. She looked through books on how to fix her ruined womb."
The flames showed Lily tearing through book after book. Each booking only fueling her determination.
"She went through the entire Hogwarts library. Potter family books. Black family books. However her salvation came from a different source." Hestia spoke calmly as the flames changed to show a blonde haired woman with blue eyes smiling, but her face was blurred.
"She made a deal. A woman of unknown origins, to Lily Potter. She found a ritual that allowed one to summon a fae. Beings of unknown origin." Hestia revealed as the image unblurred and it showed the woman's face.
"Morgan Le Fay. She lived and has stayed to the Feywilds. However the summoning of Lily Potter brought her back to the planets surface. So like with all fae, a deal was struck." Hestia held her hand out as flames appeared and formed a contract.
"For handing over the book with details on the ritual to summon the divine to assist in her having a child, Lily Potter would offer up something precious to her, however the contents of precious item is unknown to even me. Not even the contact states what exactly it is." Hestia sighed and the contact was given to Rose.
"So after much effort from James and Lily Potter, they gathered everything they needed to perform the ritual. A giant ritual circle was prepared, the greatest of offerings given. A message sent out to the divine, I answered the call." Hestia showed in the fire as she stood in front of James and Lily.
"A deal was struck. I would possess Lily Potter and assist in her getting pregnant. However it came with a cost. When the child reached a certain age, they would come and spend their summers with me besides the Hearth." Hestia revealed and Rose stared at Hestia in confusion.
"Did you let them die?" Rose asked and Hestia sighed as she slumped down, a very mortal action.
"No, if it had been my choice I would have burned down that dark wizard before he even stepped into the house that day. However I was forbidden from acting beyond sight. Before your birth, a prophecy was spoken." Hestia hesitated momentarily before the flames showed an oracle speaking.
"The child of the hearth… a life of solitude and loneliness shall stroke her embers into a great flame… only through the actions of another will her path shine… through the actions of another she will burn brightly… by the actions of The Eternal Flame she will burn and die out… only through the actions of the invisible one will she burn brightly."
"No one heard the prophecy, spoken only for my ears. A warning. Should I intervene, I would be the cause of your death, and I couldn't let that happen." Hestia said with great sadness, but no regret.
"So I watched. Never intervening as I watched a broken being kill James and Lily Potter. Watched as he tried to kill you, but his spell reflected back onto himself by your flames. For over a decade I watched you suffer at the hands of those despicable mortals. Wishing and wishing I could turn them into ashes and take you with me, only on the threat of your life being snuffed out did I not intervene." Hestia revealed the truth.
"I did what I could, slightly influencing mortals to put a bit more food on your plate at school, keeping those disgusting mortals away from the home. Making suggestions to your magic at times, like when you apperated onto that roof." Hestia said with some fondness.
"That was you?" Rose asked shocked.
"Yes. I never directly intervened, never in anyways that was enough to cause harm to your life. If worst came to be, I would have taken in the flames I watch over and burnt down Fate." Hestia smiled, and it was full of malevolence.
"That boy Raven, he helped you, did what I never could, so I subtly pushed you two together, I believed he was the invisible one spoke in the prophecy." Hestia said and Rose had a look of slightly betrayal on her face.
"So our friendship is fake?" Rose asked with desperation for it not to be true. Her feelings to be fake, she didn't want them to be. It would break her.
"No, any feelings are your own, my only influence is pushing you two to meet, anything more was merely you two." Hestia said as Ross took a deep breath in relief.
"So that's how I was born. Wait, is that deal still in effect since my parents died?" Rose asked unsure and Hestia nodded.
"It is, for that deal also involved you. However that deal was set to take place when you turned 18. However if you wish to not do so, I will understand and no punishment shall befall you." Hestia said seriously and Rose hesitated.
"Maybe not perhaps the full summer, but I wouldn't be opposed to spending sometime and getting to know you." Rose said with a bit of hesitation in her tone.
"I understand. Perhaps over the remaining time you have at Hogwarts we can attempt to form a better bond, and if by your eighteenth birthday you do not desire to spend time at my flame, we shall discuss something then." Hestia said happily and Rose nodded her head in agreement.
For the next two hours they spoke, just getting to know each other better.
•~~~~•~~~~•~~~~•
I thought about having Raven doing some crazy thing at the end of this short chapter, but decided that wouldn't with the theme of the chapter. So I cut it out.
Now I bet Raven will have wished he attended this little meeting, so many of his questions would have been answered and revealed, and because of his beliefs he won't ask Rose to reveal the memory of the meeting between her and Hestia, so him learning of his mom is still off for a bit.
Anyways, yes I dropped a new prophecy, spent like half an hour coming up with it, because less said about its predecessors the better. This prophecy will come into effect during the Hogwarts arc, that's all I will say in regards to it.
So I hope you enjoyed the chapter, I got to head to bed, the range waits for no one in the morning.
Bye~
