"Ana Carter," she whispered. It took her a moment to realize she had said her surname she bit her tongue and gave herself a mental slap, but she kept smiling.
Liam Ford's sharp eyes narrowed as he regarded her suspiciously. He rubbed his jaw, still staring, assessing her every move.
"Ana… Ana Carter?" he repeated, voice low and cautious. Isn't that…
"It's not what you think," she rushed out, panic lacing her words. "I'm not really… I mean, I'm not connected to anyone important. Please… help me," she thought desperately, willing her acting skills to hold.
Two men passed nearby. One stopped and glanced back at her, suspicion in his gaze. Ava quickly let her long hair fall over her face, hiding herself. She threw Liam a pleading look as the man's footsteps drew closer.
"Sean, come on," Liam's deep voice urged, and the man hurried away.
"Mr. Ford, do you see how dangerous they look? If they catch me, I'll be doomed!" she exclaimed, gesturing wildly. Liam almost laughed at her exaggerated expression.
"Do you want a poor girl like me to be sold?" Her eyes were wide, innocent—an act that tugged at something deep in him. If acting doesn't work, emotional blackmail might, she mused inwardly.
"Why are you so quiet?" she asked, her voice dripping with feigned innocence. She laughed inside at her own audacity.
At twenty-three, Ava looked barely eighteen—a fact that often caused her misery—but now, her youthful appearance could work to her advantage. She glared at Liam, who remained unbothered. Ice monster… if I get out of this, I won't spare you, she vowed silently.
Liam sneezed. She flashed him a mischievous smile.
"Are you planning something against me?" he asked calmly.
"No, you're my helper," she lied, though the truth was obvious.
His irritation was brief but noticeable. "Close the window," he ordered.
"That… what?" she exclaimed as the window slid shut.
"How rude! I'll break your bones if I get out of this mess," she muttered through gritted teeth, unaware Liam heard every word. A small smile tugged at his lips.
"Boss, are you really not going to help her? She's young, beautiful… playful. The young master will surely like her," Sean whispered, overstepping his bounds.
"Sean!" Liam's sharp voice cut him off. Sean bowed deeply, aware he'd crossed a line.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Ford. I shouldn't have said that," he apologized quickly, glancing at Ava, who was still fuming silently.
After a pause, Liam ordered Sean to bring Ava inside. When the front door opened, she stopped talking and greeted him with a dazzling smile. Sean felt his heart skip.
Ava noted his height and handsome presence. His eyes, jade-green and piercing, drew her attention involuntarily.
"Your eyes… they're beautiful," she murmured. Sean's ears flushed red as he avoided her gaze.
Is she flirting with my employee? Liam's blood boiled at the thought. He shot her a sharp glare. Ava, feeling the intensity of his stare, stuck out her tongue at her reflection in the car window. Sean giggled quietly.
She's too childish, Sean thought. He ushered her toward the car, opening the door with gentle courtesy. Ava batted her eyelashes at him, sitting carefully inside.
The man beside her radiated a strong, commanding aura. Fear crept under her skin, mingling with the intoxicating scent of his cologne. Her gaze traced his well-groomed hair, smooth and tempting to touch—but she resisted.
"Thank you," she said warmly.
"Hmm," he replied curtly, eliciting a silent how annoying from her.
"Could you drop me at the next bus stop? My friend lives nearby," she asked, trying to sound casual.
"You don't have the right to negotiate in this situation," he said, voice calm but commanding, as if he owned her.
"Is he serious?" she whispered to Sean.
"Yes, Ms. Carter," Sean confirmed calmly.
"Calling me 'Ms.' feels weird. You can call me Ava," she said lowly, her voice laced with subtle seduction. Sean's ears burned red.
"Aren't you too young to flirt with men?" Liam asked, more a caution than a question. She rolled her eyes and looked at Sean, who struggled to focus on driving.
"Am I supposed to answer that?" she asked Sean, noticing his hesitation. Turning to Liam, she said firmly, "It's none of your business, Mr. Ford."
"Sean, could you please drop me at the next bus stop?"
"If you stop the car, you lose your job," Liam warned.
"I understand," Sean replied softly.
"Why are you threatening him? Oh, what have I gotten myself into?" Ava muttered, gripping her hair in frustration.
"Mr. Ford, you don't own me. Tell him to stop the car!" she demanded, almost shouting.
"Language, Ms. Carter," he said, face impassive.
"You're indirectly a kidnapper!" she accused.
"Think whatever you want," he replied flatly.
"Really? I can't do this anymore—I'm getting off!" Ava shouted, pushing the door open. A cool breeze whipped her hair as fear and determination mixed inside her.
Was she going to jump from a moving car? Sean panicked internally.
Before she could, a firm hand pulled her back, pressing her against broad, solid chest. She trembled, fear mingled with frustration.
"Why didn't you stop the car? You're heartless," she stammered, hitting his chest lightly.
Liam held her close, realizing how small she truly was. Her skin was pale and smooth like moonlight. He felt an unexpected warmth spread through him. Is she crying? he wondered.
"Don't cry… I'm… sorry," he murmured. Sean watched in shock, seeing a side of Liam he'd never witnessed.
After a long moment, Ava wiped her tears, her composure slowly returning.she started "Ever since I was young, I've made impulsive decisions. I don't care about risk—I love taking them. Adventure… that's what I call it." She sniffled, hiding her face in her hands.
"I ran away from…"
"What?" Liam asked sharply.
"My father planned to remarry a month after my mother passed away. I disagreed, so he asked me to leave with my uncle until he settled with his new family. I wasn't angry at him, but at my mom for leaving so soon. I thought he was heartless… but today I finally met someone whose heart is colder." She wiped her tears, muttering in frustration.
He reached to comfort her but hesitated, withdrawing his hand.what am I going to do
Looking at Sean through the rearview mirror, while he contemplated how to calm her.
"you like lollipop?"he asked ,though it was a question with a obvious answer he asked anyway.
"Yes," she admitted.
"Would you like some?"
"I'd love that," her eyes brightened, smiling as if nothing had happened.
"Sorry about your shirt," she said, noticing the dampness from their contact.
"It's alright," Liam replied.
Seeing her vibrant smile, he felt a pang of guilt and something unfamiliar stir in his chest. She wasn't like other women who threw themselves at his feet she was different. He didn't know why, but he felt an undeniable need to keep her close.
I still don't know why I didn't change the context but if u have any ideas please let know 🥺🥺
