Ava Carter was resting in the quiet of her room when a soft knock echoed through the door.
"The door is open… come in," she called, her voice casual.
The door creaked open slightly, and Sean Young peeked in, tilting his head as if measuring her reaction.
"Secretary Sean… is there a problem?" Ava asked, noticing his hesitation.
"It's nothing serious," Sean replied, though his tone suggested otherwise. "Mr. Ford asked me to get your friend's address."
Ava's eyes widened slightly, but she carefully masked her surprise. She didn't know his exact address; all she knew was that Victor—her so-called friend, her secret ally—stayed somewhere in Q City.
"I… I don't know where he lives," she said, forcing calm. "I only know he's somewhere in Q City. I never asked for his full address."
Sean studied her carefully, his sharp eyes narrowing. "Maybe you could at least tell me his last name? Then I might be able to track him down," he suggested, leaning lightly against the doorframe.
Ava hesitated, swallowing hard. If I tell him, it'll be too easy to trace Victor… I can't let that happen.
"All I know is his first name… Victor. That's all," she said finally, keeping her voice steady. She fidgeted with her fingers, lowering her gaze like a child trying not to get scolded. "I never asked for his last name… I just call him 'Slimy Head.'"
Sean's suspicion deepened, but he didn't press further. Ava quickly pulled out her phone. "Here's proof," she said, holding it out. "Check my contacts—I saved his name as 'Slimy Head.'"
Sean took the phone, scrolling through the call log. Only one contact stood out. After a brief moment, he handed it back.
"I'll get going now," he said, tapping her head lightly as he turned to leave.
Ava giggled, a bright, childish sound that made Sean's face warm ever so slightly. She waved at him. "Bye!"
Once he left, she pressed her ear against the door, listening intently until his footsteps faded. Only then did she release a deep sigh of relief. She needed to get out of here as soon as possible—one wrong move, and she'd be caught.
She quickly texted Victor, explaining the delicate situation. I need to be careful, she reminded herself. No mistakes now.

Meanwhile, in a sleek, glass-walled conference room high above the city, Liam Ford sat alone, reviewing documents on his tablet. His concentration was absolute—until his phone buzzed with a message from Sean. He glanced at it, jaw tightening instinctively.
"Meeting dismissed," he muttered under his breath, clenching his fist. The room emptied quickly, everyone sensing the tension, except his oldest friend and business partner. Jack Oliver had always looked up to Liam as a brother figure and could sense the storm brewing.
"You look angry," jack said, leaning casually against the polished table.
"Mind your business," Liam snapped, eyes still fixed on the phone.
Jack smirked. "Let me guess… the reason you're this angry is because of a woman, right?"
"You don't disturb me," Liam said sharply.
Jack chuckled, unbothered. "Finally, you have a sister-in-law," he teased. "Tell me… who is she? When can I meet her?"
Liam didn't respond, eyes locked on the screen. Jack realizing his friend wasn't in the mood to share, changed tactics.
"Liam…" he began slowly, almost playfully.
"Speak," Liam replied flatly, his tone cold.
"Mr. Carter's daughter… she's back," Jack said carefully.
Liam raised his eyes briefly, expression calm but icy. He and the Carters shared that same sharp, calculating temperament.
"And?" Liam prompted impatiently.
"She… she's been missing since she returned," Jack continued quietly.
Liam's fingers drummed lightly against the table. His mind raced, calculating every possible move. And, as always, his thoughts drifted to Ava Carter the girl who had somehow pierced through his defenses, leaving an impression he couldn't ignore.
