"No, no, there's no need." Mrs. Lee hurriedly waved her hands in refusal. "Mr. Cooper already gives me a monthly bonus; I can't accept more money from you."
"He... he gives you a bonus?"
"Yes, Mr. Cooper... Mr. Cooper asked me not to tell you." Mrs. Lee laughed, somewhat embarrassed. "He treats you so well. Sigh... how could such a good man be unjustly accused!"
Vera's heart sank.
"Let me take you home!"
Vera escorted Mrs. Lee back to the old mansion. While Mrs. Lee packed her luggage, Vera went inside and quietly placed an envelope filled with cash into her suitcase. "I have something else to attend to, so I won't see you off properly. You can take a taxi home later."
