River suddenly felt a force against his back from the inside; it felt as though something wanted to push itself out. The pressure increased, and River let out a broken scream, his hold on his mate not loosening in the slightest.
"I know, I know, it's all going to be alright. Just don't let go of me; keep holding me," Damien whispered into his mate's ears, as if handling the most delicate, priceless glass in the world.
"Ah!" River screamed even louder when he felt something gradually erupting from his back, blood oozing from his restructured skin.
Damien looked behind his mate to see white wings covered in thick red blood peeking out it's headfrom River's back. The shock didn't paralyze him; instead, he tightened his hold around his mate.
After a few seconds of soft sniffles and quietly crying, River finally felt as if the thing that was forcefully torn from his back was fully out as relief from the previous pain washed over him. The pain gradually subsided, and he relaxed.
