James lead her to the spare room and left her be. she saw a couple of gifts sitting on the bed opening up the small box she saw a Rolex then opening a flat square box seeing a then chain diamond necklace. next was a bigger rectangular box she pulled out a Gucci handbag leaving the last one having a blue Amoni dress.
The next morning Charlotte woke up at 9am walking downstairs, wearing the watch and necklace. exploring the penthouse, she saw James working at the computer. "Maybe you should have a holiday, you work way too much"
"I might after these get sorted out" James huffed
she walked over standing behind James "what are you working on?"
"Organising the assets from business and personal, and reading through the documents that I didn't get through yesterday"
Charlotte placed a hand on his shoulder saying, "it only been 2 days how did you manage to get so much in that amount of time?"
"That is a story for another time" James turned to look at her seeing the watch and necklace "do you like the gifts?"
"I do, thank you"
"Glad to hear it, they look good on you"
"Keep that up and people might get the wrong idea" she patted James's shoulder and continued to say "come on, dad wants me to secure some land that's up for sale. let's go to an auction"
they went upstairs getting ready to go to the auction, Charlotte wore the dress that James picked out and just wore a black suit. "i didn't expect you to pick such a good dress Mr Jefferson" Charlotte said as she walked to the elevator
they got to the auction sight Charlotte saw Dustin and his father there and a few of the other known families "whispering today might be easy except for there is 2 people from the Kennedy family here today"
James smiled "we get everything here if they bid, we bid higher"
"Are you really want to cause trouble with them?" Charlotte asked
"The bidding is starting"
James let charlotte do the bidding until she was constantly out bedded each time there wasn't much land up for grabs today, so everyone was eagered to get something. Dustin noticed James "Are you really bidding if you can't afford it?" Dustin shouted at James
"Dustin have some class this is an auction and not your drama set if you want to act like a princess then leave" James said
Dustin's father didn't like how his son was speaking too but if he kept going then his family would have humiliated in front of everyone urging Dustin to remain silent, the Kennedy members bid 100 million to scare off everyone.
James countered by bidding 500 million, he never let anyone have a chance, the auction was finished quickly having everyone being displeased in it. "James, you spent too reckless today"
"How so? your dad wanted land, we got a huge chunk of land that could turn into a big deal"
"You angered too many people"
"It is an auction if you have money why not spend it? it's pretty shallow not to spend it in my opinion"
A member of the Kennedy family called Charles. "Don't worry about it, since there are some issues at the moment let's not throw our weight around"
James started the car just about to start driving, as his phone began to ring. seeing it was Wendy he answered the phone placing it on loudspeaker
"Sir we calculated the income per quarter after tax; you are at 300 million at best."
"Understood, assist that company on securing some contracts I'll be speaking with the President of The Brand and Dawn Corp, soon I recovered some land deeds."
"Can do sir, also with how everything is going you be close to get over a billion if you keep this up."
James hung up the phone to hear "such a big shot now I see"
driving to Lucian's estate, they were greeted by the butler. Making their way to Lucian's study, "Charlotte why are you back so soon? you meant to be on a vacation"
"And miss all this excitement" Charlotte huffed
"We secured the land you asked about"
Charlotte pinched James "and you embarrassed the Kennedy's as well"
Lucian went into shock "that is a family that we can't cross"
James avoided the statement reverting back to the vacant land "everything will be divided up between you and President Cho, my net worth and connections are still small so securing the land was so I can start getting my name around"
"Oh, right I heard that you brought a couple of companies and restructured them. then there's this matter of the vacant land" he sat up straight continuing "I want your brother to take charge of the project to test his capabilities"
"Lucian this is a matter between father and son, this is a good test. if it fails then so be it funds can be replaced"
"Aren't you worried about the risks?" Charlotte asked
"Not particularly, if something fails that means that the task is too big for a person, you can't succeed without failing a few times"
"James, this is no small matter. the costs could be high" Charlotte hurriedly to explain.
James turned and smiled at Charlotte "oh, I almost forgot that you are supervising your brother, call it payback"
James left without a second word leaving Charlotte speechless, Lucian stood up walking over to Charlotte "Did you tell him?"
Charlotte looked the floor grabbing her dress in both hands, shaking her head shyly "ok, you are free to do whatever you want. but do make your choice soon, considering the young master of the Steele's arrives back from abroad in two days and the arrangements haven't been changed"
"We need to have a good reason to call off the engagement otherwise they won't"
Lucian grabbed Charlotte's shoulder comforting her
