After the four were checked that there were no injuries, they were taken by the police for eye witness and interviews. Their parents were called and despite their worries and Inko's loud crying, they were reassured that their sons were fine. It took them until late afternoon that the four were allowed to go back home, after waving goodbye to Yubi and Inei, Izuku and Katsuki were walking home before they separated a few blocks away. They were tired from everything and were just glad that it was the weekend tomorrow.
"Thanks… for saving my lame ass." Katsuki bluntly and awkwardly stated as Izuku looked at him with tired emerald eyes.
"No problem."
"Those dumbass heroes shouldn't've yelled at you, even if you ran in like that."
"It was reckless, but…"
"But?"
"I… couldn't just stand there and watch you die." There was a hint of sadness and fear laced in Izuku's tone of voice that Katsuki looked at him with concern. "You, Mom, Aunt Mistuki, Uncle Masaru, Yubi, and Inei are all I have. If something happened to any of you, I don't know what I'd do."
Katsuki stared as they also stopped walking for a moment. Ever since Uncle Hisashi died, he kept an eye out for Izuku and Auntie Inko even though he was also in the midst of recovering himself. Considering how the two know each other like the back of one another's hands, he could read Izuku like an open book. He, like Yubi and Inei, could tell that Izuku longs to have someone else to talk to and though Katsuki really doesn't want to feel or admit it, he could feel his heart also lurch at the chance to make a new friend. Trouble is, every time someone hears what their Quirks were, it's elementary to middle school years all over again and both boys have to have their hopes die out like wilted flowers. Katsuki narrows his eyes very slightly, it's been like that for a long time and will most likely be like that in U.A. in spite of his heart's saying otherwise.
Compared to Izuku, Katsuki is more than willing to have only six people in his life. It's not his fault that he could pick out people's exploitative intentions like sore thumbs and give him deep seated feelings of distrust. It was just too easy to pick out and again, it's been like that for a very long time that Katsuki has accepted they'll most likely never get to have the friend who'll look past the surface.
His heart lurched again in retaliation to his crippling thoughts. Katsuki closed his eyes before forcefully squashing down his feelings before wrapping his arm around his best friend. It's saddening, in his opinion, but these days there's only one thing that'll get Izuku back up and running.
"Yeah well, none of us are going anywhere. And even if something does happen, I'll kick their ass... just not like today." Hearing a small chuckle, he continued, "But it was cool getting to see All Might in action."
"True, especially that punch that changed the weather!"
" 'DELAWARE SMASH!' HAHA! That was awesome! Kinda glad I got caught, otherwise I wouldn't've gotten to see it!"
"Kacchan!"
"What, you know you liked that move as much as I do! At least I'm able to hide my nerdy excitement about it though!"
"You jerk!" Izuku laughed as he punched his shoulder and Katsuki grabbed it while rubbing it, even when joking Izuku can still literally throw a punch. The two laughed it off before calming down.
"Thanks for that." Izuku smiled.
"Don't mention it, ya' crazy nerd."
Their happy moment was cut off when a large man with blonde hair, blackened eyes, and a large smile while half-bent at the waist came running out of a gap between two houses.
"I AM HERE!"
"ALL MIGHT?" Izuku and Katsuki screeched as the Number One Hero appeared out of nowhere and were now in front of their faces. The man immediately slapped his hands on their mouths, begging them to be quiet and making sure no one heard them shout his name. After making sure there isn't anyone else other than him and the two boys, he removed his hands and sighed.
"Please be careful when you shout my name out boys, getting rid of those reporters is trouble enough." The boys were still silent, why was the Symbol of Peace here?
"What… what the hell are you doing here though?" Katsuki quietly yelled after getting a hold of himself. This is his second time seeing his and Izuku's idol today! Izuku's still in shock from seeing him for the third time as his mouth hung open!
"There's something I want to ask the young green-haired boy, but I hoped that I find him alone though." All Might bashfully stated as Izuku looked shocked by that.
"What do you mean you 'hoped' to find me alone? What do you want?" Izuku questioned shyly before they recognized steam rising from All Might's body.
"H-hey, what's going on with the steam?" Katsuki worried as he and Izuku rushed to him before the tall man put up his hand, motioning them to stop.
"I wanted to talk to the green-haired boy alone, but I didn't think you two would be together. But… no bother hiding it anymore. Just… don't scream after this alright?" He said as more steam rose before it covered him whole. Izuku and Katsuki covered their eyes before the steam dissipated enough that they could see again. But what they saw shocked them but they remembered that they promised All Might they wouldn't scream. Instead, they slapped their hands over their mouths to prevent any potential noise from escaping.
Their idol was now a very skinny-looking man with his slicked back blonde hair looking shabby as it dropped. His baggy clothes no longer fitted his frame as his face looked shrunken and ill-like. The boys still struggled not to scream or do anything that would attract anyone, their favorite hero of all time was now this… skinny, frail-looking man. What in the hell happened? All Might takes in their reactions before sighing, the boys calmly remove their hands from their mouths as he begins talking again.
"I know that this is a lot to take in, especially with what happened today. However, I'm glad it's the weekend because I want to continue our meeting tomorrow or the day after that. Whichever you both choose is fine."
"O-okay." Izuku stuttered as All Might handed Katsuki a piece of paper, an address and place written on it.
Dagoba Municipal Beach
Arrive on 7 A.M. on Saturday or Sunday. I'll be waiting! :)
"Dagoba Municipal Beach? It's that place a junkyard now?" Katsuki raised an eyebrow. It's true, the beach was once a popular spot for people to go see the shoreline until the population began dumping their trash on the place. Now it's a dump for who knows how many years.
"And that's why no one will be there. It's a perfect place for me to discuss things with the both of you, especially you… ummm." All Might pointed at Izuku but didn't catch his name.
"Oh, I'm Izuku Midoriya."
"Katsuki Bakugo." The two stated their names as All Might nodded.
"Ah, alrighty then, I'll be waiting tomorrow or the day after that to continue our talk." He said before Katsuki and Izuku looked at each other and practically read each other's minds.
"Tomorrow." All Might rebounded by their bluntness and synchronized answer. It was a little creepy and he thought that the two boys would want to take tomorrow off to relax, but he supposes it can't be helped if they wanted answers so bad. Nonetheless, he smiled at their answer and waved them off as he walked away.
"Okay, I'll see you two there at 7 A.M." With that, he transformed into his heroic form and disappeared from their sight as the two boys were alone once again. The two looked at each other, back where All Might was, then back to each other, and forward again.
'WHAT THE FUCK?'
Despite the craziness, the sudden appearance of All Might, and his skinny form, Izuku and Katsuki shrugged everything off and hoped that this wasn't a prank tomorrow or they will be very pissed. They went their separate ways, waved each other goodbye, and walked straight home to their worried parents' arms. Mitsuki and Masaru were checking Katsuki's body for any injuries even though he said he didn't have any. Inko was crying and hugging Izuku tightly before telling him never to do anything reckless again. After getting out of their parents' grip, they showered, ate dinner, and fell straight into bed. It was a weird, frightening, insane day, and the boys finally managed to get sleep before waking up tomorrow to see All Might.
Said tomorrow came as they got up early, changed into t-shirts and shorts, grabbed water bottles just in case, and already told their parents that they were going to be out for a while and might not make it back until late afternoon. Though hesitant, their parents allowed them to go but never leave one another's side, but it's not like they're going to with where they're going. After meeting up from where they separated yesterday, they went jogging to get there faster and exercise the exhaustion from the heavy sleep. It took the two a good ten minutes to get near the beach before they decided to make it a race by sprinting there. After making sure there was no one to run into or any cars to slam into them, they both made it to the beach at top speed. It was a close call but Katsuki was able to get there first. He punched the air while leaping before collapsing onto the floor in exhaustion.
"I… win… take… that… Deku." He said in between pants as Izuku had his hands on his knees and was about to collapse too, but he remained upright.
"Fine… next time though… I'll beat you." Izuku swore until they heard someone approaching that Izuku straightened his back and Katsuki stood up. In front of them walking is All Might in his skinny form. It was still a little jarring for the two to see their idol like this, but they hoped everything would be explained soon.
"Glad you both made it, and the fact you turned it into a little race is good for exercise." He stated. Enough with the flattery, Izuku and Katsuki both want answers and to continue the talk yesterday.
"All Might, with respect, can we continue the talk we had yesterday. What do you want to discuss with us?" Izuku cut straight to the chase as All Might's smile turned into a tired frown.
"Alright, alright… I did promise you both that. However, what I'm going to tell you must stay secret, thus you can't tell your friends, teachers, or even your parents about this unless we three agree that it's safe. You two understand?" After getting two nods, he took a deep breath before using his left hand to lift up his shirt. What Izuku and Katsuki saw will forever be burned into their memory.
There was a large scar on All Might's left side that was a flaring red with blue and purple bruises surrounding said scar. Multiple lines meeting the old injury looked like the skin was forcefully sewed to heal faster. Honestly, it looked like a black hole had opened inside of him and tore him apart before closing the hole back together. Suddenly, Izuku and Katsuki were regretting their run and believed that their jog left them dizzy and nauseous as the former collapsed to his knees while the latter took some steps back. Their idol was badly injured and that injury was never shown either, it was jarring that such an injury was on him. All Might suspected this to be their reactions and waited until the two were able to become comfortable enough to see the injury.
"Pretty gross right? I got this in a big fight five years back. My respiratory system was basically destroyed, I lost my whole stomach, and all the surgeries have pretty much worn me out. It can't be fixed. Right now, I can only do hero work for about three hours a day. Rest of the time, this is what I look like." He explained as Izuku stood up though he and Katsuki were still sweating from both their exercise and the sight of the wound.
"Wait, five years ago…"
"Then… wait, is it the fight with Toxic Chainsaw?" Izuku and Katsuki theorized as they looked back at All Might.
"Wow, you two know your stuff but no. That punk may have landed some hits, but he couldn't bring me down. Most of the world has never heard of this fight, and I did everything I could to keep it under wraps. Kinda humiliating and horrifying right? Seeing the Symbol of Peace like this? I'm supposed to be the guy who's always smiling, people everywhere have to think that I'm never afraid. Honestly, I used to smile to hide the fear inside, just a brave face that's put on whenever the pressure's too high. You two want to be heroes right, so you need to know that this job isn't easy." He explained as Izuku and Katsuki took everything into consideration. They knew that they might sustain injuries like that in the future, some might even cause them to retire early in their lives. They know this but are still going on with their dreams.
"Wait… you said you 'used' to smile to hide your fear. What changed?" Izuku asked as he recalled the word. All Might smiled as he pointed at Izuku.
"You kid, you gave me a reason to smile again, but not to hide my fear. When I saw that monster attacking Young Bakugo, I knew it was my fault that happened because I was so careless and foolish. So for that, I'm sorry." Before Katsuki could object to it not being his fault, he continued, "I just stood there blaming myself while hoping that a hero with the right Quirk could help you, so when I saw a young boy try to save your life, it inspired me to act too! There are stories about every hero of how they become great, but most have one thing in common. Their bodies moved before they had a chance to think, almost on their own. That one moment made me realize that you, Izuku Midoriya, are worthy of my power. My Quirk is yours to inherit!"
Izuku and Katsuki were in awe before they reread everything that All Might said and slumped their shoulders in shock. Quirk being inherited? What?
"Wait, what do you mean 'inherit'?"
"Inherit what?"
"What in the world are you talking about?"
"What the hell is this? Are you pulling our legs, All Might?"
All Might laughed at their reactions before calming them down, "You… you both should see your faces right now. I'm going to explain everything right now. There are some things you should know about my abilities, journalists always guess my Quirk to be super-strength or some sort of invulnerability. When people ask about it in interviews, I always make a joke and dodge the question. That's because the world needs to believe their Symbol of Peace is just a natural-born hero, but I'm not. There's nothing natural about my ability, I wasn't born with this power. It's a sacred torch that was passed onto me from someone else."
"Someone gave you your Quirk?" Katsuki asked as his eyes were further widened to the point that he might as well have plates for eyes.
"And you're next Young Midoriya. I can give you my abilities. I can transfer my Quirk to someone else, and that's just one facet of my secret abilities. The true name of my power is One For All." All Might pointed at Izuku once again. Izuku stood still until he collapsed once again and looked like he was having a panic attack. All Might got worried as Katsuki immediately got down and put his hands on Izuku's back and chest to steady him.
"I'm sorry… this is just… a lot to take in. One… For… All?" Izuku looked up as he took in steady breaths.
"Yes, one person improves the power, then hands it off to another person. It continues to grow as it's passed along, it is this cultivated power that allows me to save those who are in need. The truth behind my strength." All Might explained as he spread his arms out wide. "Like I said before, I'm on only three hours of my power so that's not a lot of time for me to be a hero. Additionally, I'm running out of time, you boys are going to hate hearing this, but it's almost time for me to hang up the mantle as the Symbol of Peace."
Izuku and Katsuki paled while hearing that. All Might's going to retire? And he's going to retire soon too! No that can't be true…
"I need to pass my Quirk along, so I was on the hunt for a worthy successor. Watching you jump into action as the rest of the heroes stood by, you may have gotten into trouble with them but you still tried to save your friend. You acted like a true hero! So what do you say, Izuku Midoriya, will you be my successor for One For All?" All Might offered his hand to Izuku, who's still on the floor.
Izuku took some time to process everything, being chosen as All Might's successor. It was like a dream come true, to be trained by the Symbol of Peace himself, but… he looked at Katsuki. He was worried that his best friend would be jealous of Izuku being trained by the Number One Hero and be chosen as his successor to boot. He's known Katsuki all his life but that still didn't stop him from worrying. Then, the ash blonde stood up, shadows covering his eyes as Izuku worried what he'd say next. However, all of his concerns dissipated as Katsuki flashed him a wide, bright smile.
"Well, what are you waiting for Izuku? Take the damn offer!" Izuku was still on the floor as he stuttered his question.
"W-what… but… what about you? Are you really okay with this?" Katsuki laughed immediately after he said that. Izuku and All Might backtracked as he threw his head back, wrapped his arms around his torso, and stepped back while cackling.
"Oh come on, Izuku! We've known each other since we were in diapers and you're asking me that? I'm hurt! I don't care if you're All Might's successor, if you're Quirkless, or if you're abnormal or whatever kind of crap! I don't care if you'll get an extra Quirk along with your Dumuren one, as long as we're going to be the next Number One Heroes and the best hero team, I don't care if you have his Quirk or will be his successor." Katsuki then walked next to All Might to further empathize his point that he's fine with everything. Izuku looked at the two, he smiled as he was glad that Katsuki wouldn't be potentially jealous that he's All Might's successor. As long as they would be a hero team, nothing mattered to the ash blonde. The green-head was still processing the offer, but decided to take it and grabbed All Might's hand as he and Katsuki helped him get up.
"Excellent!" He motioned for the two to follow him as they walked to a deep pile of trash that was nothing but rusty cars, fridges, and other junk that was dumped on the beach. "Now, we need to train Young Midoriya's body so he can sustain One For All. And to do that, you're going to clean up this entire beach until there's not a single speck of trash left!"
"Wait, what do you mean 'train'? Isn't Deku already strong enough to gain your Quirk?" Katsuki questioned as All Might stopped walking.
"True, he's strong enough as it is, but I'm worried his body might not be enough to contain all the power of One For All." Despite being rather short and standing at 5'5 tall, Izuku's body in general was strong and well-muscled from Quirk, Muay Thai, and Taekwondo training for so many years. "My Quirk is a whole lot to handle. The combined physical abilities of everyone who's ever used it creates a hurricane of pure force. If a body is unprepared they can't fully inherit it, your arms and legs would shoot off if you tried to."
The thought of Izuku's arms and legs blowing off horrified him and Katsuki as All Might continued. "You're my student and I'm your trainer at the moment. At the moment, heroes these days are mostly showing off and capturing villains, but things were different before Quirks. Service was what mattered, back then heroes were those who helped the community. Even if it's boring, I want you to restore the coastline for the entire section of the beach. This is your training montage, Young Midoriya, to be a hero and my successor."
Izuku watched as All Might turned into his hero form and walked to an old refrigerator in order to destroy it to show off the still rising sun as he talked. It was a beautiful sight as All Might turned back to normal as Izuku and Katsuki stared at the sunrise. The green-head knew that this is his new training montage and he will complete it no matter what. His sight was blocked when All Might handed him a piece of paper with a schedule listed, his sleep, training montage, school, everything was listed there.
"When you accepted my power and after I told you everything about One For All, I devised a training schedule and wanted to see if yours is either similar or you can adjust to it." Izuku looked over the list several times to see if it does interfere with his own training schedule. Surprisingly, not a whole lot, just a few extra hours into training on the beach, and that's it.
"Actually, not much is that different, but I can adjust." He bluntly states as All Might smiles before he turns to Katsuki.
"Alright, and Young Bakugo I wanted to ask you on how you want your training schedule to be like." Now it's Katsuki's turn for his eyes to widen in surprise as he turns to the smiling man.
"Why?"
"Because I like you. The way you fought against the slime villain, you showed determination and refusal to give up. Additionally, I know why you didn't use your Quirk to escape, because it would cause fires and give the heroes something else to worry about. That was careful analysis and you were prioritizing the citizens' safety, something a hero should always keep in mind. Also, you didn't hesitate to have Young Midoriya's back when he was being berated by those heroes and brought up many excellent points on what they could've done differently in that situation. Besides, I can tell how much Young Midoriya cares for you and trusts you very much. I wanted to make sure this is between me and Young Midoriya, but if he trusts you then so do I. And like I said before, I like you so I'll be training you too." Katsuki beamed with pride as he could feel happiness and his own nerdy excitement beginning to rise from within him.
"Thank you, All Might. I look forward to working with you." Katsuki bows eagerly and Izuku smiles, happy that he won't train alone and that his best friend got recognized by the Symbol of Peace as well. All Might also smiles before he looks at the two, the sun still rising and the light brightly shows off their facial expressions of determination and resolve.
"No reluctance from either of you. That's exactly how I figured you'd both respond." All Might smiles before he raises his right hand and clenches his fist as the sun continues rising behind him. "You two figured out where you both want to go for high school, correct?"
"Yes. U.A. High School."
"The one where you went, and it's the best school around." Izuku and Katsuki answered and All Might's smile widened further as he chuckled slightly.
"I kinda figured as much. Well, the clock is ticking and the entrance exam is in ten months. So in that time, I'm going to train you both to enter the school I attended! Don't either of you give up, it's time to go beyond!" All Might screamed before punching his left fist into the air with the boys following suit as they shouted U.A. High's ultimate motto.
"PLUS ULTRA!"
Ever since that day, Izuku and Katsuki have been spending every other day at the beach with All Might there. Izuku was building his body muscle further in order to harness OFA better while Katsuki discussed the kind of training All Might and he would agree on: focusing on building Katsuki's power and techniques. After revealing details on how the Explosion user's power works, All Might devised arm and hand training regiments that would help Katsuki's sweat glands grow and give him more power. From that point on, All Might continued to oversee both boys' training as well as getting to know them on a personal level.
He was surprised and saddened to hear that Izuku and Katsuki's lives aren't as pleasant as he thought they'd be. After asking about their childhoods, the two tragically reveal that things have been nice until Izuku's dad died and they've been plagued by people only wanting to get to know them for popularity points that's made them pits of distrustfulness. If All Might were honest, he's surprised to see such disheartened and angry looks on the two faces. Honestly, he'd much prefer them to be smiling but meeting so many people like that, he can understand. Even more so when the Sludge Villain Incident was revealed, their classmates and teachers were making it a big day. They were either showing false concern or posting on social media that they "knew" how the two victims/"heroes" were at the scene, just using them to be popular. Didn't help that their posts ended up attracting reporters to their school, hoping for an interview with the two or the students hoping to be seen on tv. It's only because of Izuku and Katsuki blowing them off that they squashed their dreams for popularity points.
All Might felt sickened to hear the boys being used as advertisement sticks for fame from their own school, he'll have to make a note about it to Nezu if it'll make the boys feel better. Nonetheless, All Might can sympathize with the two boys on what it's like to lose someone you love and having a small group of people you trust to consider true friends. Aside from having OFA as the biggest secret of his life, there's also his skinny appearance and his injury that he made sure no one got a peek at. He worked hard and long to make Japan a safer place and he was aware that if people were to know all three points, no doubt villains all over would surge to fight him. There was only a select handful that saw his skinny form and even more of a select group that knew about OFA, and that's even with the boys added in.
All Might feels sympathy for the two, despite the two boys having strong personalities and determination to succeed and go beyond, there was something akin to sadness, loneliness, and distrustfulness that was lingering in their eyes. He knows what it's like, he's been there countless times when he had many heroes, civilians, and interviewers try to be his friend just to be a guy or girl who got to meet the famous All Might. Additionally, he's mostly a loner so he can understand that while it grants one some time to themselves, it hurts to not have any true, real friends. Fame is both a blessing at times but a curse at most, it may grant you attention and earn one's public eye but it can get too out of hand.
However, he's positive that things will change for them the moment they go to U.A. High, his own high school before he debuted as a hero. There's always that saying that high school is the point of someone's life when things are looking better for anyone who's had a tough life at middle school. And he's certain Izuku and Katsuki will gain their own happy endings once they enter and exit high school. He can't wait for what bright futures will await the two.
The months fly by very quickly as Izuku and Katsuki train under All Might at Dagoba Municipal Beach. Izuku continues moving the trash away in his human form as his body begins to grow and become much more muscular as time moves on. Katsuki continued doing the arm and hand exercises All Might recommended to him, as well as his own training regiments to strengthen his sweat glands; with the result of his arms getting more muscled and being able to create stronger explosions as time continued. Their parents don't know about this on All Might's command so they didn't tell anyone, so they're left in the dark. At this moment, they just think their boys are training extra hard to make it into U.A.'s entrance exam, given the immense difficulty to pass both the written and physical tests. As time continues to move onwards, middle school became much more bearable, even though Izuku and Katsuki had to cut off time with Yubi and Inei to train with All Might, the two understand as it's to get into U.A. High as they continue to study for their own high schools.
The day before the entrance exam, Izuku and Katsuki finally managed to remove every single scrape of trash off Dagoba Municipal Beach and even make the beach itself look like it's never been soiled before. Then, the two boys met up with All Might who finally deemed Izuku ready to take his power, but in order to do so he needed to take a sample of the hero's DNA. Thus, and disgusting as it is, All Might gave Izuku a piece of his hair to devour as he reluctantly did so while looking green around the gills. The Symbol of Peace tells Izuku that the power will kick in two or three hours as he tells the two to get plenty of rest before tomorrow as he wishes them luck and that he's proud of them both.
Today was the day!
The U.A. High Entrance Exam.
Izuku and Katsuki stood in front of the large gates that lead to the greatest hero school of all: U.A. High. The school that produces the best heroes in all of Japan, the school that's always tough on the students no matter what, and the school that gave the world All Might: The Symbol of Peace and current Number One Hero. The school was at least a fifty story-high building that separated into four different buildings, the windows painted a beautiful blue and white off the glorious sky as clouds slowly moved on. The school stood on top of a large hill that practically overlooks the town below it. Surrounding the building was nothing but lush forests of tall trees with the wind blowing the branches as the gorgeous cherry blossom petals were pulled off of them. Down along the path to the main entrance are statues that are presumably the founders of the most famous hero school.
Students from different schools continue walking towards the entrance as Izuku and Katsuki look on. This is going to be the day when they enter and pass the test and enter the school that gave the world All Might. The two look at each other and smile, they begin walking towards the entrance of U.A. High to begin the written portion of the test. However, as Izuku is walking he accidentally trips on a loose tile and is about to fall. Katsuki tried to stop him and Izuku attempted to summon his wings from his back until he felt something touch his back. His descent to the floor was halted, and he was floating all of a sudden. The green haired flailed his limbs as he hovered the ground as he and the ash blonde turned their heads to the person who stopped him from face-planting on the ground.
It was a girl with brown shoulder length hair with two bangs almost covering her eyes. Her eyes were also the same color as her hair as she has a roundish face with vibrating pink cheeks. Her hands were raised as her fingers were spread out and about to touch each other. Izuku and Katsuki saw her fingers had unique pads as she pressed her fingers together after the former was able to reposition himself and he felt his gravity return to him. Izuku landed on his two feet as he straightened before he and Katsuki turned to properly look at the girl.
"Hey, are you okay? I stopped you with my Quirk, I'm sorry I didn't ask first. But, I figured you wouldn't mind me catching you. Isn't this all like… way nerve-racking? Well, guess I'll see you both inside."
The girl asked as she awkwardly waved at the two boys before leaving for the main entrance. Izuku was about to catch up to her but Katsuki stopped him.
"What? I'm just going to say thanks and ask her her name?"
"Yeah, but…"
"What the? Come on, already?"
"You don't know if she might post on social media that we met the two Sludge Villain kids on her way to U.A. High."
"Bro, she didn't even look like she knew us? How is she going to post that if she might not know us? For all we know, if all three of us pass, she might be in the same class as us. How can we expect to get a new friend if you won't even let me talk to her and see for ourselves that she could be trusted!"
And at that, Katsuki stops and his retort dies in his throat. He looks away and drops his hand from Izuku's shoulders. The greenette sighs and does the same as the ash blonde looks back at him.
"Look, like All Might said, U.A. might be different then all of our previous schools. I know it's a longshot and could just be me talking, but I'm having a good feeling about this. So please, at least give U.A. a chance to make new friends and get to know that girl if she does end up with us?" Izuku asks pleadingly and even does the infamous Midoriya puppy dog eyes.
Katsuki's doubtful looks begins to die out and with a loud sigh, gives way to his best friend's pleas.
"Fine, but just. Her ." He said while poking the smiling shapeshifter's chest. He then makes his way into U.A. 's halls with a hand to his chest. The lurching feelings that his heart usually splurges whenever he's being he's distrustful self suddenly feel like it's pumping with… happiness? Weird.
Izuku smiles and is about to head in himself before he catches sight of someone that he remembered ten months ago on the day of the sludge villain. He stops and turns his head towards that person and is able to see a speck of white and red hair mixing together until they disappear into the building. He continued staring as memories of that person resurfaced, there was something particular about that guy that stayed with Izuku all this time. He even discussed it with his best friend at one point but the motion was brushed off. Izuku continued staring where the person was until he heard Katsuki call out to him and that he was holding people back from climbing the stairs. This finally gets Izuku to make the trek up the stairs and into the building to take the written portion of the entrance exam.
As they enter the building, the students are all directed to a large stadium with multiple rows of seats that completely fill the room. Everyone begins taking their seats as Izuku and Katsuki sit next to each other while the former tries to find either the girl they met before or the boy with the two-toned hair. While he couldn't find either student, the ash blonde nudged him as Izuku sees a smile on his face as he points to the stage. His eyes widened as he saw a man with crazy blonde hair that's shaped like a crescent moon. He was wearing red tinted glasses as his mouth had a big smile on his face, and was wearing black, etchy clothing. He has a type of radio on his chest as he wears fingerless gloves while marching onto the stage.
"What's up, U.A. candidates? Thanks for tunin' into me, your school Dj. C'mon and lemme hear ya!" The Voice Hero Present Mic shouted. Unfortunately, no one made a single sound until Katsuki and Izuku glanced at each other with mischievous smiles and cried out loud.
"WWWWOOOWWW!" Everyone jumps back from the duo as Present Mic smiles happily.
"THAT'S MORE LIKE IT! Now, let's talk about how this practical exam is gonna go down, okay? Are you ready? Yeah!"
"YEEEAAAHHH!"
"OKAAAAY! Like your application said, today you rockin' boys and girls will be out there conducting ten-minute mock battles in super-hip urban settings. Gird your loins my friends, after I drop the mic here you'll head to your specified battle center. Sound good?"
Everyone looked at their cards they received before they went through the main doors of the school. Their cards all have a number and a different battle station as Present Mic directs their attention to the large screen behind him. Izuku and Katsuki looked at their cards and the former had Stage A while the latter had Stage B.
"I see, they're splitting us up so we can't work with any of our friends." The ash blonde stated as Izuku peeked at his own and then his friend.
"Yeah you're right. Our examinee numbers are one after the other, but we're assigned to different battle centers." The Voice Hero once again calls for everyone's attention as he begins explaining the task. The screen shows four different types of robots as he begins talking.
"Okay, okay, let's check out your targets. There are three types of faux villains in every battle center, you'll earn points based on their level of difficulty, so better choose wisely. Your goal in this trial is to use your Quirk to raise your score by shredding these faux villains like a mid-song guitar solo. But check it, make sure you're keeping things heroic: attacking other examinees is a U.A. no-no, ya dig!?" Present Mic stops when he sees a hand suddenly shoot out of the audience.
"Excuse me sir, but I have a question?" A tall, navy blue-haired, spectacle teenager stands from his seat as the ceiling lamp lights point to him. Present Mic allows him to continue as he begins asking his question.
"On the printout, you've listed four types of villains, not three. With all due respect, if this is an error on official U.A. material, it is shameful. We are exemplary students, we expect the best from Japan's most notable school. A mistake such as this won't do. Additionally, you two with the ridiculous hairstyles." He then pointed to Izuku and Katsuki as they raised their eyebrows. "You two have been doing nothing but yell out loud. Stop that, if you both can't bother to take this seriously, then leave. You're distracting the rest of us!"
Izuku's face bristled and Katsuki's eyes twitched. They were just having fun and going along with Present Mic's shouting, no need to be called out for it. Sure it may be distracting, but it was fun to say the least, and it's a good way to let out some nerves before the exam starts anyway.
Already this guy was on both Izuku and Katsuki's shitlist as the latter catches sight of the former's death-chilling glare. At that point, he'll let him do all the talking.
"Look, I'm sorry if me and my best friend were distracting some of you, but at least acknowledge the fact that some of us want to ease our nerves. This is the U.A. Entrance exam, so people are in the right to be nervous about these things. And last I checked, Present Mic allowed us to actually let out a few shouts here and there. So I think… you should pay attention more and get your head out of the clouds if you think you're in the right." Izuku finished his sentence off with a cold death glare, his hair casting shadows over his eyes, and his voice low enough to send shivers down even the devil's spine. Just ask Katsuki, whose eyes are closed and if you look carefully, you can see slight trembles. The blue-haired boy and those around him shuddered at the intense glare from the green-haired male as the former sat down in fear of the latter. Present Mic stutters as he regains his voice.
"A-all right, all right… quiet down you crazy examinees. Thanks for calling in with your request, the fourth villain is worth zero points. That guy's just an obstacle we'll be throwing in your way, there's one in every battle center. Think of it as a hurdle you should try to avoid, it's not that it can't be beaten, but there's… kinda no point. I recommend my listeners to try to ignore it and focus in the lines toppin' the charts." He explained as the screen shows a mini figure of himself running away from said zero point robot. The students begin talking about how defeating the robots is very similar to a video point game.
"That's all I got for you today, I'll sign off with a little present. A sample of our school motto! As General Napoleon Bonaparte once laid down, 'a true hero is one who overcomes life's misfortunes.' Mm-hm, now that's a tasty soundbite, are you ready to go beyond? Let's hear a Plus Ultra, good luck! Hope you practiced hitting more than just books!"
"PLUS ULTRA!" Present Mic mentally thanked the two exhilarant boys from before as this and final time, more students actually shouted the line as well.
