Chapter 3 - First day at School

Walking in boldly, like I didn't care about anyone's impression of me, I looked around the classroom.

"What if I'm actually in the wrong class?" I muttered jokingly to myself.

A free seat by the wall caught my attention. The third seat on the right. My perfect type of spot. A small smile appeared on my face as I moved towards it.

After getting comfortable, I took out the first book we would be using for the day. I was still searching through my bag for a pen when suddenly, a nice firm voice interrupted me.

"Let me help you with this."

A hand stretched towards me, holding a pen.

"Yeah, yeah, I'm such a dummy," I said to myself. "Because why the hell would I not have a pen on my very first day of school? And what if he thinks I'm unserious? Oh my!"

"Don't bother," he said kindly. "Everyone makes such mistakes."

I smiled and took the pen from his hand.

"Thank you," I said softly.

"I'm Louis, by the way," he introduced himself without hesitation, a gentle smile on his face.

"I'm Mai," I replied.

Just then, our teacher walked in.

She wasn't bad at all. Compared to my former teacher, she was almost an angel. She introduced herself as Miss Carol and proceeded with the lesson.

The bell rang, indicating lunchtime.

I had no idea where the restaurant was, let alone any other place in the school. Looking around, trying to figure out what everyone else was doing, Louis interrupted my thoughts.

"You're new here, I guess. Lunch?"

I almost refused, but my stomach had other plans. It rumbled loudly, embarrassing me.

Feeling shy, I accepted his offer.

Over lunch, we got to know each other better. We talked about our hobbies, our former residences, our priorities, and everything in between.

That was when I discovered the crazy side of his personality.

To be honest, he was a 10.

He was Polish, and there was something naturally charming about him.

"Hey, Louis."

A calm and beautiful girl approached us and pulled out a chair.

Louis greeted her, and they exchanged a few words. From the way they interacted, it was obvious they were close. They seemed to get along so naturally.

"Oh, forgive my manners," Louis said, realizing he had forgotten to introduce us. "Uhm, Mai, meet Sandra. She's my friend. Sandra, meet Mai, our new friend."

Sandra smiled warmly at me.

"It's nice having you in our school," she said.

"Thank you," I replied.

She ordered her meal, and soon the three of us were engaged in a pleasant conversation. We laughed and joked together, and from a distance, anyone would have thought we had known each other for years.

I turned to the side and noticed Kay sitting with a group of girls.

They were probably her friends.

A smile formed on my face.

I was happy she was getting along too.

When lunch break ended, we returned to our classrooms and stayed there until closing hour.

Dad didn't arrive on time, so Louis offered to take me home.

"We always go home together," Sandra said as the car moved. "And since we are all friends now, we can always ride together."

We all giggled.

His car was extremely comfortable and expensive. I could tell he came from a wealthy background. Sandra wasn't any different. She also looked elegant and expensive.

What impressed me the most was how down-to-earth they both were despite their wealth. They were so much like me.

I could finally call them friends.

We all lived on the same street. My house came first, then Sandra's, and finally Louis'.

Sandra sat in the front passenger seat, while I sat at the back in the middle seat. Louis played a soft Taylor Swift song, and we sang happily as we drove through the streets.

Soon, we arrived at my house.

I invited them inside to meet my parents.

Mum was so pleased that I was already getting along with people. She welcomed them warmly, and they seemed very comfortable around her. She collected their names and contacts before they eventually left.

I went upstairs to my room, added Louis and Sandra to my diary, and then went downstairs for dinner.

Not long after, Kay walked in, greeted Mum and Dad, and went upstairs to change.

During dinner, we all shared our experiences from the day while Mum and Dad listened attentively.

For our first day in Poland, everything had gone better than expected.
