Chapter 134 - School

"Why the hell does there need to be so much paperwork to enroll a child?" Adam said aloud to himself as he scribbled on a piece of paper, setting it on top of the large pile beside him.

"There isn't that much." Rosalie said from opposite Adam.

They were seated at the family dining table, everyone else scattered through the house doing their own thing.

"And why are you complaining? You are the one who wanted him to attend school. Carlisle already said he would be more than happy to continue schooling him."

"Because it's important for Liam to have a social life with people his own age. Ever since he awakened his abilities he's grown up around the same handful of people, all of whom are grown adults."

Rosalie nodded her head, seeing what Adam meant.

 "You have a point."

"We agree." Esme said, as she and Carlisle walked into the dining room arm in arm.

"I recently read a psychology book which noted that a child's mind is like a sponge. Always absorbing information. If they grow up sheltered, it could affect them greatly."

"Thank you Carlisle for affirming that for us." Adam said sarcastically, giving Carlisle a wink.

"That's not all." Carlisle said, his voice turning serious, catching Adam and Rosalies attention instantly.

"I have been doing some thinking." He said, looking at Esme before turning back to Adam and Rosalie, "What would the two of you think about going to school as well?"

Both Adam and Rosalie looked at each other with confused expressions.

"What do you mean, Carlisle?" Rosalie asked.

"Well, let me just start with the fact that all of you look to be in your teenage years, and should be attending school. Except for Evelyn that is. She looks to at least be in her mid twenties so won't be attending school.

Adam nodded his head in agreement.

Other then Evelyn it was only Esme and Carlisle that looked to be adults. Everyone else in the house looked to me at most seventeen.

"And with how small Forks is, it could make people suspicious if none of you attended school besides Liam."

"That also brings up another thing." Esme said before Carlisle could continue.

She gave both Rosalie and Adam a sad look.

"We don't think it would be a good idea if the two of you tell the outside world that you are Liam's actual parents."

Rosalie's face turned to stone as soon as the words left Esme's mouth but before she could object Esme continued.

"Liam is fourteen years old. The two of you look to be only a few years older than him. That would cause who knows how many questions when you go to turn in his paperwork at the middle school."

"She's right, Dear." Adam said, drawing Rosalie's glare to him.

"We knew the day would come." Adam said with a sad smile, "We can't tell the world he's our son when he looks to be almost the same age as us, can we? Yes, we could get away with it when he was younger, everyone thought we were just young parents. But now there's no way people would believe us. It would just make everyone suspicious of us."

Rosalie let out a huff of air as she slowly sunk into her chair, angry at the situation, but also resigned to the fact that what everyone was saying was true.

 "Fine!" Rosalie said.

Adam turned to look at Esme and Carlisle.

"That's fine. But who will he be to the two of you?"

"I already thought of all of that." Carlisle said with a happy grin and chuckle, "He will be the same as all of you if you all agree to start going to school."

Carlisle paused to draw out the moment, happy he could do to Adam what Adam liked to do to him.

"All of you will be our adopted children." Carlisle said, as if he had thought you the greatest plan in human history.

Adam and Rosalie stared at Carlisle with deadpan expressions.

"I guess that could work." Adam said, "But what does the rest of the family think?"

"We talked to all of them separately. All of them are kind of on the fence about it. Except for Alice, though. She thinks it is a fantastic idea and that all of you should start school tomorrow."

Adam chuckled, "I think everyone could have told you she would react that way."

Later that evening when the whole family was sitting at the dining table playing cards, Adam spoke up.

"So…What do all of you think about attending school?" He asked, slapping a card on the table, picking one up from the pile in the middle of the table.

"Ohhhh! I think it's a great Idea!" Alice said happily.

"Eh. I don't know." Emmett said, while trying to peek at Edwards cards who was seated next to him, "If Evelyn isn't going to be there, I don't think I'm much up for it."

"Did you even finish school the first time? And could you stop trying to cheat!" Edward said, covering his cards with his hands to hide them from Emmett.

"I made it to the sixth grade." Emmett said with a chuckle.

"Then you should probably go." Evelyn said, picking up a card from the pile, an evil grin coming to her face as she slapped her cards on the table to reveal her cards.

Everyone grumbled, tossing their cards into the center of the table so they could be reshuffled.

"Why? I can read and count. Why should I go?" Emmett asked, leaning back in his chair.

"Because I plan on going to college in Seattle. What are you going to do around here all day when I'm gone? Sit around and mope all day?"

"You're going to college?" Emmett asked, surprised, hearing this for the first time.

Evelyn nodded her head, "I made up my mind when Carlisle and Esme brought up school earlier today. It's always been a dream of mine to get a degree in something."

As they continued their conversation, Adam turned to look at Alice and Jasper. "What about the two of you?"

"We're in!" Alice said, her nimble hands shuffling the cards like a pro, Jasper nodding his head in agreement from beside Alice.

Looking at Edward, Adam raised a brow.

 "What about you?"

Edward looked up from the table, "I don't think it's a good idea."

"Of course it is. Do you want to be a hermit forever?" Adam asked.

"Of course I don't. But I think there are more ways to look normal than putting innocent children in danger with us being there."

"Edward, you have to have more faith in yourself. Your self-control is on par with Carlisles. And if any of you were to lose your self-control Alice will know beforehand and intervene."

 Edward huffed.

"Is that a yes?" Adam asked, leaning forward.

 "I'll think about it."

 In the end everyone agreed.

Except for Emmett. At least at first, until Evelyn forced him to.

(A/N - this was a bit of a experiment. this one is in the third person and will be returning to the first after.)
