Chapter 133 - Neighbors

(I made some changes to this chapter. I also changed up my writing style. Let me know what you think of it.)

We didn't rush through the forest; instead, we took in the sights at a normal pace, like regular people. The large trees and light fog that filled the forest enhanced the beauty of our new home. As we walked, Liam would pick up rocks or small sticks and throw them at the large trees, causing loud knocks to echo through the forest.

"Are you trying to communicate with Sasquatch?" Adam asked, looking down at his son.

Turning his head, Liam looked up at Adam. "Sasquatch?" he asked, unfamiliar with the name.

"Yeah. Have you never heard of him?" Adam asked, already knowing he hadn't.

Liam shook his head.

Adam stopped in his tracks, looking around the forest suspiciously before whispering, "Sasquatch is said to be a massive, hairy man, well over ten feet tall with enormous feet, who roams the forests." Adam said, biting his bottom lip to keep from laughing as Liam's head slowly turned in all directions, worried that he might actually spot a Sasquatch.

"Really?" Liam asked, alarmed.

Adam let the forest's sounds fill the air for a few seconds before leaning in close to Liam. "Nope," Adam said with a chuckle, laughing too hard to see the daggers Liam shot his way with his eyes—a trait he had gotten from his mother.

"That's not funny," Liam said angrily, picking up another rock to throw at another tree, this time with some force, causing the small rock to embed itself in the tree's trunk.

Adam chuckled, wiping a tear from the corner of his eye. "Yes, it was," Adam said before laughing again.

Liam rolled his eyes with a snort, trying to hide the small smile he had as well. Once Adam got himself under control again, he explained that Sasquatch was just a mythical being from across the world that he personally had never encountered, and very much doubted actually existed. As theu walked, Adam continued to explain the mythology behind Sasquatch, always wanting to expand Liam's ever-growing thirst for knowledge when his senses picked up something.

'Wet dog?' he thought, sniffing the air. The smell was strong and pungent, not even an hour old. 'Oh, shit!' he thought, quickly turning in the direction he knew the Cullens were in.

"What is it, Dad?" Liam asked, on alert, wondering if he might have spotted a Bigfoot.

"It would seem your old dad forgot something very important," Adam said, looking in the direction he had last sensed the Cullens and Rosalie.

"What did you forget?" Liam asked, stepping up beside me.

'A meeting that doesn't need my presence,' Adam thought, surprising himself with the thought. Normally, Adam wanted to be involved in any of the main moments of the story he knew about, but for some reason, he couldn't help but not care. If things followed as they were supposed to, then everything would turn out the way he wanted.

"It's nothing," Adam finally said after a few moments. Liam shrugged, not worried about whatever his father was talking about, ready to continue exploring the forest. Adam turned back to face his son, the usual smirk back on his face.

"Wanna race?" Adam asked his son, giving him a light push on the shoulder.

"Sure!" Liam said, always ready for a competition. Pointing north, Adam spoke.

"Do you see that mountain?" he asked, pointing at a rather small mountain compared to the ones surrounding it. "Whoever reaches the top first gets to decide what's for dinner," Adam said, knowing that was the best way to get Liam to go all out in a competition.

"Ohhhh! Does that mean we can have cake?" Liam asked.

Adam looked down at Liam. "Only if you can convince your mother."

"Damn!" Liam said with a huff, knowing cake was out of the question.

"Watch the language!" Adam said, flicking the side of Liams head with a finger.

"Ahh!" Liam yelped, rubbing the side of his head with a frown.

An hour later, they made their way back down the mountain, ready for home.

"I nearly had you!" Liam said, chattering happily like a magpie.

"You sure did!" Adam said with a chuckle, happy to see Liam happy. Of course, Adam had only made it seem like he almost won, when, in reality, he only used a fifth of his power. At fourteen, Liam was certainly fast—almost as fast as your average vampire—but still a long shot from my speed.

"So what's for dinner?" Liam asked.

"I saw a restaurant in town that looked pretty good. What do you think about going there for dinner?"

"Ohh! Yes, let's go there!" Liam said, happy for the chance to be around people.

Finally reaching home, Adam could hear that everyone was inside in the middle of a conversation.

"Your bags should already be in your room. Go get changed, then we will head out," Adam said as they reached the door. Letting Liam inside first, Adam closed the door behind them, walking to what would become Carlisle's study, where he found the rest of the family. Everyone turned to look at Adam as he walked into the room.

"What happened?" Adam asked, already knowing why everyone looked concerned.

"We had a… pleasant meeting with our neighbors," Alice said in her chopper tone.

"You say that, but all of your faces say otherwise," Adam said, looking around the room at everyone.

"Well~" Alice started before being cut off by Emmett.

"They knew what we were!" he said, shaking his head. "And apparently, they are some kind of shapeshifters."

Adam raised his brow questioningly.

"They are werewolves. Like the children of the moon, except they can control their transformations and themselves when transformed," Carlisle said.

Adam let out a low whistle. "Start from the beginning."

So he did. Carlisle told of how they were just finishing up their hunt when Alice got a vision of a group of men, Quileute warriors from their dress. As they got closer, the smell of dog got stronger. When they finally met, the leader of the group of men instantly knew what they were and was ready to attack when Carlisle, the ever-peace negotiator, explained that they were not normal vampires but instead only drank animal blood, not human. Of course, the leader of the group didn't believe Carlisle but thankfully gave him long enough to explain how he, along with the rest of his coven, lived mostly normal lives and how they didn't want to harm any humans.

"Then what?" Adam asked.

"He agreed to a treaty," Edward said.

Adam turned to look at Edward with a raised brow. "Really?" he asked.

"Yup," Carlisle affirmed.

"And what are the rules of this 'treaty'?" Adam asked.

"It's simple. We don't kill anyone in Forks or go onto their land."

"Sounds simple enough," Adam agreed, just before the sound of Liam's running feet could be heard coming down the stairs.

"Dad, I'm ready!" Liam shouted, running at a normal speed into the room the whole family was in.

"Ready for what?" Rosalie asked, looking at her husband and Liam.

"We thought we would try out that diner in town. See if it's any good."
