Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Medicine Storeroom

Gu Yunjiao waved her hand, "Mom, no need, it's only a few miles away, it won't take long to get there."

Mrs. Chen said softly, "I'm worried that Erlang won't give up. If you go alone, he might try something again."

Gu Yunjiao thought about it and realized it made sense.

Even if she carried a machete, it might not be enough against Jiang Erlang.

After all, the machete's role was primarily to intimidate.

Mrs. Chen hesitated, "Your neck, if your mother asks about it tomorrow—"

Gu Yunjiao pressed her lips together and said nothing; her mother wouldn't care about such things.

Mrs. Chen took out the tael of silver Gu Yunjiao had given her, "Take this and buy something for your mother. Although Da Lang is gone, you're always a daughter-in-law in our family, going home empty-handed doesn't look good."

Gu Yunjiao pushed the silver back, "Mom, just keep this silver with peace of mind."

"I don't need to buy anything when I go home."

Seeing Gu Yunjiao insist, Mrs. Chen said no more.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Zhou called Mrs. Yang into the main room, and the two chattered for a long time before Mrs. Yang came out.

Gu Yunjiao went to sleep early.

In the middle of the night, she suddenly woke up, having dreamt about the earthquake again.

She stood in the place right before the earthquake—the medicinal herb warehouse of her family.

She opened her eyes and found that she was indeed in the medicinal herb warehouse!

Grandfather and great uncle of Gu Yunjiao were both masters of traditional Chinese medicine.

Previously, they would write a prescription and instruct patients to get their medicine from an old reputable shop in the Capital City, where the medicine was genuine and of good quality.

Unexpectedly, at one point, a patient called to complain that the medicine had little effect.

Grandfather was puzzled; he had confidence in his prescriptions, so it could only be a problem with the medicine. He asked the patient to bring the unused medicine in for inspection and found that the most expensive ingredient, musk, was only half the amount it should have been.

Musk is very expensive; quality natural musk now costs seven to eight hundred per gram.

Later, the pharmacy did replace the musk, stating that their scale couldn't measure such a small weight, hence the mistake.

But ever since then, grandfather never trusted external pharmacies again, sourcing his own herbs and preparing crucial ones himself.

When patients came back for consultation, the herbs were taken from their family's own stock, in precise amounts, ensuring the best quality, as this was the only way to ensure efficacy.

Their family's herb stockroom, called a stockroom, was essentially a well-stocked medicine shop, with arrangements similar to a pharmacy. However, this shop did not serve the public, only handling prescriptions from their family.

At this moment, Gu Yunjiao looked at the wall full of herb cabinets, then at the shelves with antlers, the specialized shelf with tiger bones, deer antlers, musk, bezoar, ginseng, and Gastrodia. She pinched her arm hard, and it hurt—she wasn't dreaming.

Suddenly, she had a realization: the medicinal herb warehouse had traveled through time with her.

She happily walked to the door, wondering if by opening it, she would return.

She turned the handle, but the door wouldn't open.

Looking outside the window, there was a void, as if shrouded in a vast, white mist.

Gu Yunjiao felt a bit disappointed. Coming out of the herb warehouse, she found herself still in bed, with San Ya sleeping beside her.

Unable to sleep, Gu Yunjiao's thoughts wandered, and she re-entered the herb warehouse.

She randomly opened a drawer, finding licorice inside. She took a handful of licorice, thought of leaving, and found herself back in bed, still holding the licorice in her hand.

She could take herbs from the warehouse for external use, which excited Gu Yunjiao.

Not to mention, having this pharmacy in hand, her survival was assured in the future.

Gu Yunjiao was excited for quite a while before she gradually fell asleep again.

Early the next morning, Gu Yunjiao was awakened by a whizzing sound.
