"Hmm." Mary Douglas softly interrupted her, "So if I have a spat with him and ask him to make breakfast for me, that's our private matter. You're curious, but prying is a bit too much. I think you know why I'm saying this, otherwise you wouldn't be so careful around me."
Quinn Martinez bit her lip and said nothing.
Mary Douglas sat up straight, her gaze slightly cool.
"My words might upset you, but you knowingly did it, so don't feel too aggrieved."
Glancing at the sandwiches on the table, Mary Douglas let out a cold laugh.
"To win a man's heart, you must first win his stomach. After all these years, have you managed that?"
The words were blunt enough; pretending to be clueless now was no longer an option.
Perhaps it touched the most hidden, fragile part inside Quinn Martinez; she finally looked up at Mary Douglas.
